  • World's longest venting capacitor!

I guess it smelled like rotten fruit.

  • COUGH I'm surprised the heating element didn't just melt through to the aluminium can and burn out.

Lots of experiment potential: Heating {insert victim here} to well over flashpoint without reaching autoignition.

  • You should put a blower in that box to pull all of the smoke and fumes outside.

  • nice cap vent.. im sure the smell was unbearable :).. time to build a vent system :).

  • Absolute LMAO. I think you've set a new record for "longest capacitor vent-off". I think something's been learnt here: A slow boil makes more smoke instead of powering it backwards. Look at it go!

REQUEST: When changing the YouTube meter, may I request a Metropolitan Vickers type NF ? This instrument has a 0.01 kWh dial, and also a high rev-speed at 600 revs/kWh. But, at only 10A loading capacity would it become damaged?

If so, alternatives requested: Sangamo SPA 01 / Sangamo HMT. Thanks. BBD

  • Can't believe how long that capacitor vented for, considering that capacitors with reversed polarity only vent for a few seconds. However I'm sure that's not how concerts produce their smoke effects on stage!

  • Can you tell me how it smells ?

    And is it toxic ?

  • @HipHopKiller94

Some smell like fish, depending on the composition; not sure what they use, but an electrolyte dissolved in water; the "smoke" is mainly water vapor, plus hydrogen if it was overloaded electrically. I have breathed it without getting sick in any way so it can't be that toxic, plus electrolytic capacitors gradually dry out even if they don't blow, imagine all of the capacitors in an average house (hundreds?) slowly leaking electrolyte vapors...

  • You need an extraction system to help clear the magic smoke! :D

  • That is one bloody tough trani !!!

  • @CorbyStarletCj1 it did a great job of glowing that wire. that TX is about 200 VA max.

  • Lot of Smoke for a little Cap

  • Boy that cap sure blew a lot of steam!
