haven't heard this is years.... holy crap this sounds like shit when you're not completely annihilated. can't believe i used to jam the fuck out to this.
I found out about this band from Wiki because I google'd the poem this song is named for, after it was mentioned in an NCIS episode...Ah, thank-you technology :)
contrary to what everyone says in the comments, they do keep perfect rhythm. and even the chords are excellently layed out, but they disguise the sturdy backbone of this song with the shrieking and seemingly random noises. its an excellent song, but musically it still adheres to most common music theories with chord progression, cadences, and tempo. nothing bad to say about the song, but its not chaos, just musical genious.

eh... personally, it sounds like he's trying to pull off an MCR persona and voice. (except even Gerard way has a better voice than this). Now, don't just thumbs me down because I "don't like the voice". I listen to Coheed and Cambria and Lemon Demon, so I'm not exactly new to .. "off" pitches. He just seems to be trying way to hard....
@iputbaconinthesoap lololol wow. OK. I'm really trying to focus on constructive criticism in this response. I think you might be tone deaf...honestly. Not a hint of sarcasm in that. Our lovely lead singer here has a nasally prolonged sort of technique, he's doesn't actually elevate his vocal RANGE in a melodic fashion. Gerard...does..in every verse. Gerard sings from his diaphragm, and John doesn't. Sooooooo different that it was kinda awkward and painful to read your comment. =/ I feel weird.
@KatherinaW There are plenty of singers with odd voices or strange ways of pronouncing things and many times that is what makes them so popular. Always hearing the same voice types gets boring, I love people with unique voices. Listen to old blues songs, listen to Big Mama Thorton- I smell a rat, she sounds like a man most of the song but her voice conveys her feelings and really puts the soul into the song. Even Elvis had a unique way of singing and dancing that made him memorable.
@DJRozwell A little. But what REALLY creeped me out was first listening to We know Where You Sleep. My friend made me listen to it while he was taking me home....it was really dark out and my paranoia was through the roof! Now, I listen to it just fine. paperchase is beautiful <3

@VAMPIRExGODESS all the best bands are from Tejas. Baboon, Brutal Juice, Caulk, Toadies, Tomorrow People - infinite amounts more. I'm totally jealous of you.
I love you can literally see him pushing the words up through his vocal chords and out his mouth. He's visibly forcing them out, and the discordant tones really add to the sound of the song.
@bigdragon8me - Funny you should say that, the lead singer John Congleton started the band as a way of expressing the frustration he felt during his many panic attacks. That's kind of why it sounds like someone having a breakdown :D
Why? The lack of harmony and the unbelievable heavy nasty dark atmosphere really hides an incredible work. Some ppl will say "this sucks" but is because they cannot stop and listen to a beautiful masterpiece.
@tanya8809 that could be half the point of the song, its art, and the artists arr trying to please themselves, theyre doing what ever they please, get over it
still it doesn't fit the song - not even the knocking in the coffin fits this haunting sound surrounding the song. well, at least that's my opinion...
Its like they tied his hands together so he couldent move his arms. I like his usual theatrics, someone obviously told him to tone it down, which kinda sucks. I like watching his live stuff much better.
Why did they change the video? I like it and all, but you were always left to come to your own conclusions about the coffin, now they give you no choice. Does anyone have the original?
there isn't anything to really understand...its a song you just have to understand in your own way. This song has really affected me and when i first heard it i was very reluctant to keep listening but now i can't stop
I love how...Absolutely unique this song it. The vocals. The tune. The manic tones, the lack of absolute harmony and rhythm.
I don't think a song needs to be beautiful or even rhythmic to be good. Maybe hat's just me. I think this song is beautiful in it's own faults and features.
i'm wondering why you were listening to this if skill is the only way you gauge things... that's not to say that this didn't require plenty of skill anyway.
