  • They don't make good old fashioned weirdness like this anymore.

  • crazy show love it still have the vhs of it :)

  • This was the one opening that I liked the most of all the Yatsura TV series credits and was the first one I was introduced to in 1985. Always felt that that Akemi Takada's treatment of the characters at Studio Pierrot early on in their adolescent appearance lent to the humor than Moriyama Yuji's treatment of the characters later for Studio Dean. I've always wondered if she didn't work on the Magical Girl's series and stayed on the show if it much better. Got old after a while in the later shows.

  • this is one of the oddest things i have ever seen

  • omg this song is so hip lol

  • @toyboy6669 noooo, OR a tiger-striped bikini XD

  • Once you watch the entire series and come back to watch the first opening, you just can't stop smiling and can't help but feel a little sad. :]

  • You just fell right into a Troll's trap and feed him.

I hope you learned your lesson.

[This is to Rendiez or w/e]

  • @DrawingsOfNamine But I also managed to maintain my end of the conversation calmly with undeniable points that contradicted his gibberish, eliminating the point of his trolling, which was to aggravate people. I did it for such a long period of time that he eventually gave up and left, meaning that I had effectively outtrolled a troll.

  • love this song

  • your love uh huh

  • only a true fag would like this

  • @TrollVEVO

    Like you?

  • thisischinese

  • @Dmktenn02 Wrongo wrongo wrongo! In fact, it's an anime, so it's Japanese by default. The creator is Takahashi Rumiko, literally the wealthiest female comic artist in the world, so you lose some extra points because not only did you completely miss the fact that this was 100% Japanese, but since it was also extremely well known, that sort of makes you more of an idiot! It's like shooting a brick wall at point blank range with a sniper rifle and missing. The bullet flew off and killed a civilian.

  • @Rezindez

Actually, there's also french, korean, aaaand chinese anime. Though you got it right on the head for the whole "famous" thing. ~ohboyherewego.jpg~

  • @roitan1372 No, if it isn't Japanese, it isn't anime. I'm not in denial. The literal definition of anime is "Japanese cartoon." And since the French aren't Japanese, the Koreans aren't Japanese, and the Chinese aren't Japanese... Well, then whatever they make are simply considered as cartoons.

  • @Rezindez HOW R U

  • @Rezindez dude ill send u a request im done

  • @Rezindez Lol, fail. And you might not feel like responding, but it's still fail. Anime =/= Japanese cartoon. Anime = cartoon, period.

  • @Megajanitor The Japanese call all types of animation anime. However, in any other country, Japanese animation exclusively carries the anime title. That's just what the world has come to call it, and since there are few synonyms, it would be difficult and annoying for me to bother saying anything else either. So, if you're in Japan, all cartoons are called anime, but if you're out of Japan, only Japanese cartoons are called anime. This is fact.

  • @Rezindez Like squares and rectangles, not all cartoons are anime, but every anime is a cartoon basically.

  • @DefectiveCactusBox Yeah, exactly. Unless you live in Japan, of course.

  • @Rezindez So the foreign definition is incorrect. Anime isn't a foreign word, obviously.

  • @Megajanitor The word anime was invented in Japan and is defined by any type of animation. After the term leaves Japan, it takes on a whole different meaning. So it's not about whether the definition is right or wrong, it's about where in the world you use that term that decides the definition.

  • @Rezindez Post something stating that's a fact, or it's your incorrect opinion. If you can't verify that statement, mine is the correct one.

  • @Megajanitor Go to enDOTwikipediaCOTorg/wiki/Anime/ which verifies my facts. If you're one of those people that thinks everything on wikipedia is as credible as a tabloid magazine, google "anime means cartoon in japanese" and you'll find a lot of people agree with me, proving my statement.

  • @Rezindez Proved nothing. Notice the quotation marks. They signify that the definition is incorrect.

And Idc about random, ignorant people that believe what you do. It proves nothing. You think multiple opinions amount to facts. That's not true.

  • @Megajanitor The point is that far too many people on the internet believe this is so and obtained that information from different sources stemming from a common fact. And just because the wikipedia article chooses to put a foreign word into italics (no quotation marks here) doesn't automatically signify invalidity. It's only highlighted to signify that it's the subject of the article and doesn't follow the regular rules of the sentence it's a part of. Like if you wrote about the word "the".

  • @Rezindez That's one case. They aren't using it in that case, if you could read in context.

And those aren't italics. Clearly quotation marks.

  • @Megajanitor Where are you looking? Go back to the wikipedia page for anime and scroll down to terminology.

  • @Rezindez In English-speaking countries, anime is also referred to as "Japanese animation".

    Sums your argument up.

  • Comment removed

  • @Megajanitor To reiterate, my argument is that Japan invented the term, and that in Japan the word means "animation". However, for whatever reason, the false definition that English speaking countries have given it is "Japanese animation". You, from my perspective, refuse to accept that the word "anime" began as a Japanese term that encompassed all sorts of cartoons and that it later became used by countries foreign to Japan to refer to Japanese cartoons.

  • @Megajanitor And if you want more evidence, I can give you more evidence. Here's the same fact I've already been saying from the mouth of a well informed individual who actually works on an anime website delivering news and information about anime. She is what you would consider a credible source.

    wwwDOTbellaonlineDOTcom/about/anime

Please accept that she would logically have more information about the industry than you would.

  • @Rezindez No. A person's opinion is STILL a person's opinion. What is a fact, is what the word originally meant, and the long form of it. Cartoons and animation.

Btw, you have no idea what I know, so don't act ignorant, and cise someone you only know from a site. And btw again, knowing what a word means has nothing to do with being familiar with an industry.

  • @Megajanitor Knowing what what a word means has everything to do with an industry when the word is the name of the industry. Odds are, this person who is very familiar with anime should know the original definition of the term involved. It's more likely this person would be correct than incorrect. Setting that aside, you still don't believe me. Here is further proof from Anime News Network:

    wwwDOTanimenewsnetworkDOTcomDOTau/encyclopedia/lexiconDOTphp?id=45

  • @Rezindez Guess you haven't seen the Ocean Dub prank call. The girl that worked there, had no idea who Vegeta was.

Sorry, wwwanimenewsnetworkcomau/encyclopedia/lexiconphp%C2%AD?id=45 could not be found.

Are you sure you typed the URL properly?

  • @Megajanitor No, I haven't, but depending on the situation, it may be a rare exception.

Uh, it looks like you didn't put the dots where I told you to. And some other parts of your URL look a bit iffy... you may have to type it out by hand. I tried copying and pasting my URL just now and it somehow changed itseld in the transfer from my youtube comment to my address bar. Some dashes were added in unfortunate areas, and I had to correct it before it worked. But the URL In itself is accurate.

  • @Rezindez That's not my URL. I had to change the false version so it could fit in YT.

  • @Megajanitor Oh, that's right. Well, then what's with the %C2%AD? Well, you should just try it again. It is the right URL, I checked. But for maximum accuracy, I think it'd be best if you typed it out by hand, since it got kind of distorted when I tried to copy and paste it in, even when I switched out the DOTs with regular periods.

  • @Rezindez Just C/P the excerpt.

  • @Megajanitor I'll show you the excerpt anyway, just so I can tie up this conversation 's loose ends.

"Japanese word for cartoon and animation. In Japan, "anime" refers to any and all animation or cartoon - regardless of the genre, style, or nation of origin. Outside of Japan the word "anime" has come to refer specifically to animation of Japanese origins, or animation of a particular style (see below). Because of this, it is pronounced the Japanese way: "a-nee-may"."

  • @Rezindez That doesn't prove anything...

  • @Megajanitor It's on Anime News Network, a very well respected source of information. You'd be hard pressed to find something more credible on the entirety of the internet. It would be difficult to find a testimony of a Japanese person admitting to the fact.

  • @Rezindez No, but it really doesn't prove anything for your argument. You just enforced what I already knew....thanks?

  • @Rezindez @Rezindez I do accept that. That's actually what I believed from the beginning, aamof. I'm saying that the original definition is the correct definition. You're argument is becoming disorienting.

  • @Megajanitor Oh. Then I'm sorry I wasted both of our time.

  • @Rezindez You didn't really. You just lost track of what you were arguing over, lol.

  • @Megajanitor No, I was arguing for the same thing from beginning to end. Reread the comments up to this point with my intentions in mind.

  • @Rezindez I replied to this. Damn YT updates.

  • @Megajanitor Well, I was thinking that anime WAS a foreign word, since Japan was foreign to America. I considered that you might have meant that any definition foreign to Japan is incorrect, but since Japan is foreign to both of us, I figured that "Anime isn't a foreign word" meant that "Anime isn't a Japanese word." And frankly, it's not hard to see why I got that misconception.

  • @Rezindez That's it. Damn, I had a nice rebuttal before this, but you've summed it up, right there.

And by "misconception", are you conceding?

  • @Megajanitor Well, if you agreed with me from beginning to end, and only continued to argue because neither of us could understand each other's statements, I guess we're both at fault for being extremely imperceptive. I couldn't understand you and you couldn't understand me. All there is to it.

  • @Rezindez So, you're hedging.

  • @Megajanitor I reread my first few comments and I thought that they were pretty clear. But then, I screwed up first for reading your first comment wrong, although maybe you were amiss in typing it out. So I'm pinning the blame on both of us.

  • @Rezindez "Maybe"?

....you see where I'm going with this, right?

  • @Rezindez NOPE IM RIGHT OK

  • @Dmktenn02 Give me legitimate evidence to support your argument.

  • @Rezindez one china makes our stuff and anime is one of em

  • @Dmktenn02 Most Japanese animation companies create their anime in their own studios. Actually, China sometimes sends THEIR cartoons to Japan so that the Japanese can animate them. Where the heck did you get that information? It's completely false. Unless you're talking about OUR stuff, American animation, in which that comment doesn't factor into this conversation to begin with.

  • @Rezindez sp what are u saying china sucks

  • @Dmktenn02 quit being a troll before you get kicked in the taint

quit being a troll before you get kicked in the taint

quit being a troll before you get kicked in the taint

  • @Rezindez anime is chinese and u shut upp u r a bigot and are rude

  • @Rezindez the make anime doodle heads

  • @Dmktenn02 I'm lost in this conversation now... Could you please revalidate your point?

  • @Rezindez do u like chin a

  • @Rezindez CHINESE

  • @Dmktenn02 Start making sense, jackass. This isn't funny.

  • Comment removed

  • @Dmktenn02 You know, I'm not stupid enough to believe that's what you really think. Say something meaningful or shut up.

  • @Dmktenn02 I'm not annoyed. You're absolutely pathetic. I'll give you one last chance to go out on a high note before I end this conversation forcibly.

  • @Rezindez ok whats ur question

  • @Dmktenn02 I could probably foresee the answer, but do you honestly believe, without all of this biased troll nonsense, that any cartoon made outside Japan could be called an anime?

  • @Rezindez im not sure ppl have said it is anime versions idkand i want to be ur friend

  • @Dmktenn02 Alright then. I appreciate your coming to your senses. Oh, and anything anime-like that doesn't come out of Japan isn't anime, but only animesque. Look it up on TV Tropes. Send me a friend request if you want. Goodbye.

  • @Rezindez AND NO ANYTHING OUTSIDE OF HJAPAN IS ANIME RETARD

  • @Dmktenn02 And lo, you've devolved once again into random gibberish. Did you know, though, that there is actually some truth to that last comment? To the Japanese, anime is the generic term given to any animated work from any country. However, in America, anime strictly means Japanese animation. You can't turn this information against me, however, unless you claim that you've been speaking Japanese the whole time, which you haven't. If you're American and you say "anime", you mean Japanese anime.

  • @Rezindez DUDE CAN U JUST SAY CHINA MAKES ANIME TO THATS ALL I WANT TO SAY

  • @Dmktenn02 China makes a wholly different type of animation. It's called "Manhua Anime", which is as exclusive to China as regular anime is to Japan. China doesn't make anime, and Manhua Anime doesn't count. Despite having a similar name, Mahua Anime is to anime what bullsharks are to bulls. Completely unrelated in any sense whatsoever.

  • @Dmktenn02 I've seen your sig on other AMVs...you're trolling, aren't you?

  • @Dmktenn02

    No

    There's is a huge difference

Chinese and Japanese languages sound very different

And this was made by Rumiko Takahashi. A JAPANESE mangaka

And it was originally broadcasted on Fuji Television. A JAPANESE station dumbass

And I thought you got suspended already after trolling those One Piece videos

And unfortunately I run into you trolling my 2nd most favorite anime?

What a small and dumb world

  • @cosmo2593 yeah i agree that urusei yatsura is the best anime and it's starting to become my favorite one also ( my most favorite is sailor moon and wedding peach as well as revolutionary girl utena and ceres, celestial legend).

  • @passionatelover7

Definitely! This is truly one of the best animes I've ever seen, and it's currently on my top 5 most favorites (5. Neon Genesis Evangelion, 4. Ranma 1/2, 3. Shakugan no Shana, 2. Urusei Yatsura, 1. Detective Conan)

I've been watching it here on YouTube since April 2010 starting on episode 1, and now I'm currently on episode 91 and still going :)

But I really wish they would broadcast UY where I live, I swear if they do it will be more popular than Naruto or Inuyasha :D

  • Lum is so cute!!!! I love this song!!!^-^☆

  • QUE RECUERDOOOS =3

  • this is a great show and this year it turns 30 years old but its still great.

  • OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOH QUE BUENOS RECUERDOS . LA MUSICA TE LLEVA AL PASADO EXCLENTE . QUIERO LLORAR

  • one of my best oldest anime fave next is the dna2

  • nana kitades version is way better O___O

  • Mason Ikkoku is better than this

  • @tom11zz884 Maison Ikkoku is better than many of Rumiko Takahashi's more well known works when you think about it.

  • so cuteeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!

  • Urusei Yatsura is probably one of the best TV shows ever.

Nothing else hits just that right note of "bittersweet existential comedy" the same way.

  • @frogisis

    Indeed, man

  • When I heard the Pop n' music version of this song... I thought in the Rizelmine opening...

  • Beginning of Moe

  • I want Lum's clothes from the Urusei yatsura Anime because I wanna cosplay as her someday for the anime convention!

  • @sanyachan i plan on cosplaying as her too since she is one of my favorites.

  • This is like the original Ranma 1/2. I know same person made it but look at this.

Shampoo is like lum. But lum wins.

Akane is like Shinobu, but this Akane gave up. Ataru is like Ranma. Same curse to bring together wake jobs minus others but he has a lot of Happosai s perverted ness in him. Also the Kuno/Mendo, Rei/Moose. Ryoga/Ryuuonsuke for looking alot alike. And bla bla bla.

  • @ryoga808 You are correct in everything you say, but for one thing. You need to reverse everything, because Urusei Yatsura pre-dates Ranma 1/2 by over 10 years. I know it is nitpicking, but I am a super-twitcher, when it comes to Takahashi stuff.

  • @kyokogodai Now you are correct, I forgot that but I was goting in the order I saw it. I saw Ranma 1/2 first then Urusei Yatsura. So I sorta mixed then up. Sorry about that.

  • @ryoga808 No need to apologize. Honestly, I figured that was the case. I think it just shows how much you love Ranma (along with your screen name :). If you noticed my screen name, you might know that I love Maison Ikkoku. Have you seen it yet? I highly recommend it (as I do all Rumiko Takahashi productions/manga/stuff).

  • @kyokogodai No sorry I haven't seen it yet. I'm sorta behind on my anime. Manga to, so I am trying to read/watch/whatever as many stuff I can get. I ll look into it. I am though try n to see/read/whatever (again) as much Rumico animation possible. I even saw every Ranma 1/2 thing there is. I think... But I will look into it. Thank s for the recommendation also.

  • @kyokogodai i plan on watching that one also. So far i'm liking urusei yatsura (and so far ten and lum are my favorites). Same with ataru. The only one i can't stand the most is shinobu and mendou. Talk about pathetic.

  • @passionatelover7 Yes, Shinobu and Mendou are tough to stomach, but great to make fun of :) Glad to hear you are enjoying the series!!

  • @ryoga808 whoah shampoo lost? I just now watching the series and i'm new to this. Does shampoo end up with ranma or does akane end up with ranma?

  • @passionatelover7 Well you know I cant tell you that will spoil it. But i will tell you this. If you want the story in more of a complete ended oneself read the manga. The animes story line does not progress as deeply as the manga. Only halfway, and I personalyacht like the manga more. Less fillers but just as much the laughs and original carectsrs not in the anime. But the anime, ova's, and movies are also great.

  • I LOVE THIS ANIME!!!!!!! its funny, its sassy, and its got a good story. to bad i live in portugal and never got to see the end.

  • FUN FACT

did you know this is from the 1980's?

  • @MegaPinkprincess101 Yep....I was watching it, un-subbed, starting back in 1986. Didn't understand a word, but still loved the zany antics so much, I had to watch!

  • I used to watch this every night....at 4 am in the summer...xD i missed this show...

  • my friend iz japanese and she watches this with her sister :] i always sing this

  • normal i hate openings (because I'm too lazy to look at them) but i really like this!!!

  • Damn

    This song is catchy.

  • ... Who would know that Ataru is a lech?

  • Arguably, one of the most epic title sequences ever made.

  • this series is BETTER than Family Guy or the Simpsons combined!

  • i remember watching the first episode and thinking that this anime is too old to be good. The art and animation looks dated. Then I got up to the end of the anime thinking "This is probably the best anime I've seen in a long time." And this song is so catchy XD Also Rizelmine must have ripped off this OP real bad with it's repeated line "Let's Do It."

  • Yes, the entire Rizelmine series is probably a parody off UY. The plot is way too similar for the author to have called it original. Even the main character has hair that's supposed to resemble Ataru's, and Rizel is obviously supposed to represent Lum. Both hate each other at first, but eventually towards the end, not as much. The last few episodes mirrored UY episode 89 (even the gambling part where the parents are sent on vacation).

  • LAMU-CHIAAAAAAAAN!!!!!!!!

  • Urusei Yatsura >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Inu Yasha

  • Everyone is entitled to their opinions. I just think Urusei Yatsura is a little too ecchi for my tastes. :P

  • UY is too ecchi? Well you should stop watching anime(at least the most recent animes) XP

  • There are a LOT of Non-Ecchi romantic anime out there. Take Nodame Cantabile and Lovely Complex just to name a couple. =)

  • Ya, maybe. But MY point was that most of the NEW animes have more or less(or more) fanservice ;P

  • Or maybe you just look for them. =O

  • @Masterofbunies who cares if it has a fanbase or not. It all depends on how the show carries itself as well as a good plot to make it look and sound and act so good. Besides I love this show because it's so unique and not at all like inuyasha.

  • @passionatelover7 bash the furry(ish)s! Fap to dog porn. Or not.
