  • I'm estimating that Shtern is in his late 70's for this performance. I heard Isaac Stern in the same piece at around the same age and it didn't sound nearly as good. Beautiful ensemble between the players, especially in that complex middle development section. Thanks for sharing this, Eric.

  • My pleasure to share and you're right Robert: Abram was in his late seventies.

  • thank you for this! every note is cared for - one of the trademarks of Mr. Shtern...and that unforgettable pulsating heart of a sound

    I hope he's doing well

  • You're most welcome! You have expressed eloquently and simply the way I also feel about Mr. Shtern's music making! I will pass along your kind wishes to him.

  • :) Came back to listen again Eric!

  • Sounds like a good sign to me! I must tell you, Robin, that although he had been familiar with the Brahms Sonatas for several decades, he neither studied nor performed any of them until his mid 70's, and here he was in his late 70's.

  • He just has the right stuff Eric..born to play

  • That says it all!

  • purity! I get overly zealous and misspell..

  • Looks like sincere enthusiasm and emotion spilling over to the keyboard. I do like that!

  • I love this piece--Mr. Sthern plays this so gloriously, --it sounds as if it is played by one with such a purtiy of spirit--just my take, or what I hear in the expression.
