The first ravine I found had a chest floating in mid-air in the middle of it. There were diamond and melon seeds inside. I saw more diamond at the bottom of the ravine by some gravel. I placed a torch on the gravel and all the gravel I was standing on fell into lava. I jumped out of the way just in time. It was probably a trap set up by the creepers.

Batclone! My experiences with ravines have been very very cool. Usually I find an abandoned mineshaft in the side of a ravine, and explore it, and find some cave spiders and very nice treasure.
