I've seen many of these objects relatively close - up at a traveling exhibit during the early 21st century. The objects that stood out the most to me were the bull - headed lyre & Queen Puabi's head - dress. Ur seemed like it would've gotten more exposure, but it was " upstaged " by Lord Carnarvon's discovery of Tutankhamun's tomb. Also, Egypt was more popular as a " sunny get - away " vacation spot for Europeans.

I wish I had known this and more when I was deployed there in 2004 with the U.S. Air Force. I was able to wander around the site freely. As much as I enjoyed this, this shouldn't have been allowed to happen. I have lots of photos though. It did help lay a strong foundation for my interest in Archaeology and helped lead to my retooling into the field of Archaeology.

Sorry there is no second half. The exhibition, The Royal Tombs of Ur will be partially re-installed in the Museum this year. Currently, selected objects including the Ram in the Thicket are on display. We hope to post more material about this exhibition in the near future.
