  • He was Jewish, also.

  • Interestingly, Francescatti was one of the few (only?) great 20th century virtuosos who did NOT study with a famous teacher or school.

    His talent was prodigious and, on many concerti, his interpretation is my favorite.

  • Francescatti born 1902 was from the Marseilles area s. France - mixed Italian-French family - grandparents said to have known Paganini. He is magnificent, but full credit should go to Eugene Ormandy + the Philadelphia orchestra also.
