the reason she was pulling on it's head was to prevent it from bucking, if the horse can't get it's head down it can't buck as it show in the video 0:04
if a horse has no good reason to buck, fuck yes boot it in the guts with spurs, pull its head up and give it a blody good belt! it's not nice jabbing him with your legs or smacking him, but its not nice that he's trying to chuck you on the ground either!!
anyone else notice that everytime this person pulled on the poor horses face, the horse bucked. this person shouldve fallen off. try being nice to the horse and training without pain. this is not how you assert your dominance, this is just causing pain and fear of the bit.
Did it not occur to you that she is actually pulling BECAUSE of the bucking, not the other way round?? Noone can be expected to keep in a perfect position through those bucks and she needed to get the horse's head up. She is clearly not trying to assert dominance for gods sake, stop talking out your arse and get some sense! I dont normally respond to comments like this, but yours really irritated me.
@Zy135, agreed, And anyhow, what would you do if some horse started bucking and only you had your reins???, if you think being bucked off is so good, then you are next in line, i respect the horse AND the rider, if you think that being bucked off is a good thing, then give it a go, yesterday, (in my video) i was almost lied on, the horse looked like it was going to lay down, and that REALLY scared me, this person is SO Good!!!, good job ;)
She is probably pulling to pull the horses head up to stop the bucking this rider done bloody well staying on! The horse will think he has won if she fell off and do it again and again I agree with Zy135
@Papa96Bear Honestly, that is the biggest load of crap I have ever heard. what a ridiculous comment. feel free to ride idiotically on your own, don't try to push your ill educated beliefs onto others.
@Mustangify100 My horse certainly can. A more effective way of dealing/stopping a bucking horse is a one rein stop, disengaging the hindquarters. They can't buck while kissing their own backside, stepping sideways with their hind legs.
@chloecindy99 you have to pull the horses head up when they are bucking, they cannot get enough momentum going if there head is up thats what i believe she was doing. she handled this perfectly.
its not her fult for pulling back im pretty shore thats wat u would do and if u were in a position of falling of a warmbllod u would of done the same thing! nicely rode!
anyone, taken by a surprise buck like that, pulls on the mouth, dork....ya can't help it....and the horse will learn better if he bucks, he gets pulled. If he behaves,...he doesn't
@horseynutty That was not caused by the rider pulling on the horses mouth. The point of there being a bit is to pull on to act as breaks! (aswell as steering). The mare was simply being nappy, you can tell this by the tossing of the head at 0:10. Its what alot of horses do, especially when their young. Also, there are other horses around, im guessing they were at a dressage compitition, therefore the bucking could be due to excitement at being somewhere different with different horses.
for all the people who don't think it was right for her to pull the horses head up/ pull on its mouth a little bit, notice when she does get its head up, IT STOPS BUCKING
I feel for the rider, it's not easy trying to do a dressage test on an uncooperative horse, well done for pulling him up u did a great job, my daughters horse is 17 and he still behaves like a total shit head sometimes in dressage but jumps like a demon.
@Avrilrules100 that will happen to everyone who rides at some point just like every rider will have a bad fall at some point, it's just a risk of riding
@Avrilrules100 haha like DeathKitty123456 said, itll happen to everyone, but noone will put you on a young, green (inexperienced) horse until they think you are good enough. i've had bad falls, though i wasnt injured in any of them. you will not be put on any horses like this until your instructor thinks that you are good enough to know how to stay on like this rider.
@PsychoPoniesPa not the point. I am a very experienced rider and can sit a hell of a lot of bucks, rears and bolts my horse throws at me (not to mention the spookiness) but i still fell off him and he trampled me, without my hat i would have died, i was only 14 and was lucky to escape with my hat the only thing destroyed, without it his hoof would have went straight through my skull so no matter how good you are you will fall and you will hurt yourself seriously at some point
@PsychoPoniesPa sorry that didn't post right :P it was meant to say at the beginning 'that wasn't the point i was trying to make, what i was trying to say was:' lol it sounded bad how it posted before xD and i agree you will only be put on horses you can handle but i know a bombproof 21 yr old overweight (obese) cob that throws some good bucks and rears :D
I can't see that yanking back on the reins is going to be effective at all...that will just hurt her mouth and make her more upset. At least that's my opinion.
@Vanyaloth When a horse is bucking like that you have to sit up and get the horses head up. If their head is down, they will be able to buck more and a lot bigger. Therefore, when their head is up, they can't buck. You might have to pull hard on their mouth at some point too because they have the momentum of a 1200lb animal versus you! This rider did a very good job or stopping the horses bucking and staying on!
just a question, many of you say if your horse bucks you have to pull a little on his head to make it go up that would make the bucks smaller. I can understand that, but can someone tell me why no one says anything about circling? always thought that was the best way to stop a horse from bucking... but your comments on pulling its head up make sense as well ;) hope someone can help me out here
@YJMvdW that in my opinion is the best way to get a horse to stop bucking. im training a pony and whenever he bucks i put him in tight circles and he emedeitly stops bucking. now to put him in that circle i us my leg and "rains" so they do contribute but i still think circles r more effective :)
@Breyer411 i understand ;) im from holland so im the last one to correct someone's english ;) was just confused by the " " . I was worried that a bucking horse would loose his balance if you got him into circles? was afraid he would slip and fall on top of me or something like that but if you say that's not happening than i believe that circling would be better than pulling but maybe it depends on the horse. thanks anyway!
Good rider!! You can see she knows the horse really well. And i don't agree she pulls the horse too much in his mounth. If you take a good look: the strings are very long and thats why it looks she is pulling hard. And also: you have to try to keep the head of the horse higher so that it cant bench its back all the way.
she pulled on the mouth a bit much. an honest mistake many people do it usually you just have to wait the bucking out and hold on usually the horse will give up before you do! well done staying on though!
if any of u actually horse road u would understand that she's not trying to hurt the horse or yank in its mouth she's trying to get its head up so its bucks are not as powerful. She's an amazing rider to be able to stay on :)
Okey, when a horse buck, and wants you to fall of, you should! What you shouldn't do is to pull the horse in the mouth! How would you feel if you were scared and had a fucking metal thing in your mouth pulling and nudging you teeth! You can see how scared the horse really is. IF you're about to fall, fall!
@LillanLelle Just because the horse bucks doesnt mean she wants the rider to fall, the horses is obviously testing the riders limits and thats expected with a 4 year old, but the rider set her boundries, which means there is less chance in the future that this will happen, and she was pulling on her because every good rider knows i you pull a horses head up there bucks get smaller because they dont have their head, so the rider really isnt doing anything wrong.
Well, my horses have been started and trained properly, so I've avoided problems like this. However, if my horses were to buck, I don't think I'd jam the bit down their throat and make them buck harder. Just doesn't seem very effective to me.
ive been bucked...alot. and its true all you're thinking when your horse is bucking is,"Holy Crap! What should I do? Pull back!" you're not thinking," Oh my horse is bucking..I should do the one rein thing really quick!"
DO NOT TELL THIS GIRL HER RIDING IS POOR BECAUSE BUCKING ESPECIALLY ON A BIG HORSE LIKE THAT IN AN ENGLISH SADDLE WITH NOTHING TO GRAB IS HARD! OK I GIVE HER CREDIT FOR STICKING ON GETTING HER CONTROL BACK AND MOVING ON!!
few times my horse bucked all I did was loosen the reins, grab his mane and talk him out of it... he is my horse however so I'm not sure "talking" might work so well on others, but at least I managed to take away the factor that was pissing him off: my "aids". not so easy on horses that buck out of jolly hapiness though. Still trying to figure those out...
@BethanHorseMad tip from a trainer i went to a clinic about. the harder you pull while they buck the more they put there head down and buck harder. do the one rein thing it seems to work better with bucking horses and galloping away horses... i didn't think it would work at first but is did for me more then once:))
Good for you on staying on.... I hate that when horses do that.. I was on one just a couple of weeks ago and actually it was my second time on this one particular horse and started bucking while cantering... pretty scary stuff...
@beeCbaby haha too right! Haha at least it's something to hold on to! It's worse when the horse puts it's head bewtween it's knee's and bucks (like this one)......I have fallen off many times because of that ;)
As the rider and owner of the horse in the video, I would like to have my say on the matter. In the video, a feisty 4yo nappy warmblood mare, that spat the dummy, who in turn was disciplined for her actions. She is now a very successful 6yo well mannered eventer with oodles of athleticism & movement. She wasn't sore or badly treated that day, she was just testing the boundaries like most young horses do at the start of their career. Thanks :-)
GREAT JOB! WELL RIDDEN! ur right LaredoandtheEventer the rider did the right thing and did not get nervous, she stayed calm, so she could handle the problem! i saw a kid at a show who was basically pulling hard enough 2 abuse the horse, so he bucked and the kid got mad, jumped off, ran out, and left his horse in the middle of the ring, i saw him later crying 2 his mum he was 11! what a show (at a show!)
Well done! I know how hard it is to sit bucks because unlike most of the people hating on here I ACTUALLY RIDE so...yeah well done! You did exactly the right thing and kept your hands up so he couldnt pt his head down, well done :)
you wanna call someone abusive because of a bucking horse you should have seen what I use to do when Laredo would buck to get him to stop. I'd pop him one really hard in the mouth. A quick upward tug with my left rein stopped that problem right quick. and that's not even bad, its correcting a problem in a way that the horse has to respect. Jeez some people over react. Well done to whomever.
I can appreciate ANYONE who can sit that. I would know I had the same kinds of problems myself. And she did an OVERLY excellent job at handling it. She rode through it and managed to tug on his mouth, because face it. He KNEW he wasn't suppose to be bucking. or he was excited. If anyone on here is calling her tugging on his mouth cruel, they're sadly mistaken.
can you SEE how long her reins got? she has little contact on his mouth and isn't going to hurt him in a snaffle which she should have
put videos of me braking horses because they are not mine. I would have to have a thing signed by the owners of the horses to be allowed to upload it. I would perfer not to get sued but ya knw what ever. Also when people who do not have ANY VIDEOS are compenting its kinda annoyin cause then we cant see what they know. I do have videos (i think??) but other wise it doesnt really matter. The girl stayed on thats great. I was just saying that the horse shoulda been turned in circles
Ok heres the thing this video is over a year old she has probly worked with the horse way more i highly doubt she is still having trouble with him. But when a horse's face is being pulled like that you can cause problems for them. I do not get to break horses anymore only train because i had a stud step on my back and almost break it. Yes i have been thrown i train horses. If you have never been thrown, fallen on, or just had the crap beat out of you ur not a true rider. I also am not allowed to
@FellPonyz thank you :) It just really gets on my nerves when people get all big headed and think they could have sat those bucks better, when the probably couldn't have :)
@IfHorsesWereWishes you took the words right out of my mouth. I was about to comment the same exact thing you said. :D All the prissy little teens with pushbutton ponies find it sooooo easy to criticize those with actual mounts.
Some people need to learn that sometimes, when riding horses, thing don't always to according to plan, and that sometimes the only option is to do something that childish people would think "wrong", to guarantee the safety of both the horse and rider!
wow great job staying on but it almost looks like the horse has something annoying it but great job staying on :)

if you were on a mad bucking horse would you have time to think up something quick, or just try to stay on for dear life?
And by pulling a horse's head up a small bit it helps to make the bucks smaller by not letting the horse stretch or bend in that way to buck :)

Well, my horses have been started and trained properly, so I've avoided problems like this. However, if my horses were to buck, I don't think I'd jam the bit down their throat and make them buck harder. Just doesn't seem very effective to me.
Sootbind 8 months ago
@Sootbind haha, the rider was just trying to keep the horses head up.
StackLover3 8 months ago
ive been bucked...alot. and its true all you're thinking when your horse is bucking is,"Holy Crap! What should I do? Pull back!" you're not thinking," Oh my horse is bucking..I should do the one rein thing really quick!"
pittbullsrock 8 months ago

I don't know much about what you are doing. But that is not much of a bucking fit. I will say it was well handled.

Nice horse! the rider was right to pull on the reins cuz any riding instructor would tell you to do that! well sat tho!
BethanHorseMad 9 months ago
@BethanHorseMad tip from a trainer i went to a clinic about. the harder you pull while they buck the more they put there head down and buck harder. do the one rein thing it seems to work better with bucking horses and galloping away horses... i didn't think it would work at first but is did for me more then once:))

Good for you on staying on.... I hate that when horses do that.. I was on one just a couple of weeks ago and actually it was my second time on this one particular horse and started bucking while cantering... pretty scary stuff...

All i can say is, I wish I could ride like that!
Nature1228 9 months ago
@beeCbaby haha too right! Haha at least it's something to hold on to! It's worse when the horse puts it's head bewtween it's knee's and bucks (like this one)......I have fallen off many times because of that ;)
IfHorsesWereWishes 9 months ago
As the rider and owner of the horse in the video, I would like to have my say on the matter. In the video, a feisty 4yo nappy warmblood mare, that spat the dummy, who in turn was disciplined for her actions. She is now a very successful 6yo well mannered eventer with oodles of athleticism & movement. She wasn't sore or badly treated that day, she was just testing the boundaries like most young horses do at the start of their career. Thanks :-)

Well done! I know how hard it is to sit bucks because unlike most of the people hating on here I ACTUALLY RIDE so...yeah well done! You did exactly the right thing and kept your hands up so he couldnt pt his head down, well done :)
PennlovesWoody 10 months ago
*No offence* The rider was pulling the horse even before he\she bucked. Don't blame it on the horse. Nothing is ever the horses fault

for dressage. so calm your tits!
you wanna call someone abusive because of a bucking horse you should have seen what I use to do when Laredo would buck to get him to stop. I'd pop him one really hard in the mouth. A quick upward tug with my left rein stopped that problem right quick. and that's not even bad, its correcting a problem in a way that the horse has to respect. Jeez some people over react. Well done to whomever.
LaredoandtheEventer 10 months ago

I was just saying that the horse shoulda been turned in circles
morgig101 10 months ago
Ok heres the thing this video is over a year old she has probly worked with the horse way more i highly doubt she is still having trouble with him. But when a horse's face is being pulled like that you can cause problems for them. I do not get to break horses anymore only train because i had a stud step on my back and almost break it. Yes i have been thrown i train horses. If you have never been thrown, fallen on, or just had the crap beat out of you ur not a true rider. I also am not allowed to
morgig101 10 months ago
I think the girl her reaction is great.
My reaction is the same. To get the horse his head up.
The girl is a good rider i think.
Excuse me for my bad english

To the haters here,
When you are on a bucking horse, you haven't got the 10 minutes you guys have to think up things she could have done,
you have 3 seconds to think "holy shit i dont want to die today"
So think about things before you say them.

@FellPonyz thank you :) It just really gets on my nerves when people get all big headed and think they could have sat those bucks better, when the probably couldn't have :)
IfHorsesWereWishes 10 months ago
@IfHorsesWereWishes you took the words right out of my mouth. I was about to comment the same exact thing you said. :D All the prissy little teens with pushbutton ponies find it sooooo easy to criticize those with actual mounts.
dressagequeen22 10 months ago
@dressagequeen22
hehe, well a lot of people feel the same way!
Some people need to learn that sometimes, when riding horses, thing don't always to according to plan, and that sometimes the only option is to do something that childish people would think "wrong", to guarantee the safety of both the horse and rider!
If that made any sence what so ever....(:
IfHorsesWereWishes 10 months ago
@IfHorsesWereWishes
you´re right .. I hate those people who always know how to ride the horse correctly ..
but when they are asked to do it better, they don´t have the guts to do that ..
please excuse my bad english
