  • what a plonker.

  • You wanted his call for the log? The log cares about calls?

  • i dont even have a license yet and i dont find this useful at all

  • @Rachel22d It's not about being useful or not. Most ham enthusiasts just do it for the fun of operating one. Don't you think it amazing that you can talk to someone halfway across the world with your own radio equipment?

  • far out man

  • No, no, no dipshit. You indicate who you are talking to FIRST, then identify yourself. THAT is the proper QSO protocol.

  • Nice, David Letterman has a doppelganger who chats late night on HAM radios.

  • N7GAYGM

  • On licences for CB /11 meter band , You used to need one , But the dropped it , And look at the mess on 11 meters now !! The same thing is happening on the Amateur bands, Their making it so easy to get a licence that most the CBers are on the Ham bands cutting up the same way as they did on 11 meters !!!

  • I remember the days when my grandfather used one of these. Fun! He had one in his house and in his truck.

  • my balls are tango

  • youtube.com/watch?v=erHwMq3Y1wk

FUNNY VIDEO! The cat Tim a.k.a. Red steals the radio components from the home lab. Of course, for the own secret project...

Кот Тим ака Рыжий из Киева регулярно тайно крадёт радиодетали из домашней лаборатории своих хозяев. Естественно - для его собственного секретного проекта! В этот раз его застукали...

  • around 100 Euro, something for a begginer, a gear and a simple antenna, maybe the antenna i can make it home, but what equipement?

  • @ralfytm First of, do the test and get a callsign. Meanwhile buy or borrow a receiver to listen to ham-traffic. When you get your callsign buy a cheap RX/TX, 1980's icom or so... and cq away!

  • Awesome!

  • I think your videos on how to be a HAM are good and thank you! I am thinking of starting out as a tech class. I am limited to having an in door ant on the second floor of my apt that's the bad part.

  • Thankyou!

  • hi, what station do you recommend for a beginner and first time radio? thanks :)

  • @ralfytm HF or UHF?

  • @cr656565 you can tell me on both :) thanks

  • @ralfytm What is your budget?

  • I like this guy the way he explains things....

  • nice cb radio 10 4 dude

  • Interesting video, I learned a little about HAM today. Thanks.

Also, we’re holding a special tribute for the HAM radio operators of the Titanic at our museums on April 9 & 10. Check out our website for more information and operating frequencies if you’d like to join in.

  • Do Curt have all of his teeth?.

  • STEP 1, CONTACT AN AUTHORIZED EDUCATOR, NOT EXPERTVILLAGE!

By this, dumb people will just get a TS and start to talk, illegaly without either a certificate or a callsign!

  • Yeesh! You'd think he could at least use PROPER phonetics.

  • This is actually one of the videos by Expert Village that can actually be called "good". The fact that he said this is an Expert Village video is no doubt a huge turnoff to potential hams, but other than that, a good orientation video.

  • oh my god that guy was no where 10 over 9 you liar u did not even look at the meter you liar lair

  • @k2ncc I always though"N" was November...

  • Gosh, this DOUCHEBAG makes hams look so fucking bad! Can the good hams start making videos please!

  • Fucken advertisements. You're in a hurry, you want to see the video, and fucken advertisements pop up.

These ad people want us to buy their product. But their ads just make me hate them more and swear never to buy their stuff ever.

  • I don't get why some people are actually hostile to ham radio. If you are not interested in it, that is one thing, but really to get upset about other people doing it...what gives?

  • @pitcalco Ham Radio is cool. I wan't one.

  • I think a rather freely improvised phonetic alphabet is in use here: "nancy", "united", "mexico"?

I won't knock it if it works for you. Besides, I am not a licenced ham, I just learned the code from the E10 Mossad numbers station.

  • If you're going to make "instructional" video's you should at least use proper phonetics instead of teaching slang. Have your pen/pencil ready to log your call instead of looking for one during the video.

  • Nancy 7 Quebec Juliet Mexico........ Nancy, that part seems pretty accurate.

  • Lots of comments here by those who don't know the cw equivalent of the letter "e." Thanks, Curt.

  • the whole call sign and everything is kinda dumb i though. i'm glad cb's arent' likt that

  • Hey look Curt is wearing a hat.

  • I think we've found the brother of John Corzine and David Letterman

  • Comment removed

  • i hate ham radio's. you cant talk no farther than your neighbor . your better of with an actual ham with a coat hanger sticking out on top of it.

  • am going to take a test soon and for basic reg. ham radio study test is technical right?

  • this program is sponsored by what letter ?

  • loads of dirty old men in their spare rooms hiding away talking to each other ! What is the point? go into the street and talk.check out the pussy in the real world. Wierdos

  • @mesmerizeme I'm a 34 year old good looking guy with a knockout wife and two great kids, and I LOVE ham radio. What are you doing looking for videos about ham anyways?

  • @SvalbardJanMayen1976 Are you really on Svalbard? I bet that would be a great QSL for anyone.

  • @pitcalco Hi, no, I flit between Norway and the Czech Republic with the missus. I'd love to have a ham radio though, we had a CB handheld years go when I was a young guy, I remember talking to people only about 100km away and it was way cool talking to far away people, I'd like to get back into it. It was the same feeling in the 90s when I got into chat rooms, they used to be fun until it sank into Nigerians selling cocoa, 22/f/single nonsense and redneck Yank Obama haters, I guess ham is it!

  • I find this video very informative, especially since this is all new to me.

  • are u fucking gay or do u just like sucking on the mike

  • always have a pen handy thats good radio advice from your cb buddy 29 pu 04

  • looks like he's using a TS680S

  • What is this ball sack on about? Screwed up the INTERNATIONALLY accepted phonetic alphabet, told us about 50 times where the meter is, "yeah so that's the meter right there, there's the meter, yeah that's where the meter's at" .... damn man, stop treating all the viewers like kids, by the way do these things need electricity? I'm too stupid to know.

  • He looks like David lettermen when he smiles. KC9SNP

  • Just like chat roulette minus the masturbating.

  • Please learn the ICAO phonetic alphabet:

Alpha, Bravo, Charlie, Delta, Echo, Foxtrot, Golf, Hotel, India, Juliet, Kilo, Lima, Mike, November, Oscar, Papa, Quebec, Romeo, Sierra, Tango, Uniform, Victor, Whiskey, Xray, Yankee, Zulu.

  • RETARD N I NOVEMBER U=UNIFORM NOT FUCKIN UNITED RETARD

  • You and your frucking green eggs and ham need something better to do

  • N is November

  • Foxtrot Uniform

  • The videos are not numbered, so a person can watch this ham radio course from the beginning to the end.

  • The log wants his call? You do not?

  • He reminds me of David Letterman impersonating Mr. Rogers....lol

  • I thought "Kurt" was "Kilo Uniform Romeo Tango"...When did it change to United?

    M=Mexico?..... I thought M=Mike

  • When did ham radio operators start using that goofy phonetic alphabet?

    Nancy? Mexico? United? America? WTF?

  • "On today's session we are talking about... THERES A CERTAIN PROTOCOL..." Nice. Editing. Nub muffin.

  • 73 HI

  • Isn't U pronounced "Uniform" not "United?"

  • what a fucking nerd

  • God I hate expert village. It's all baby talk. Can't even tell what order the videos are supposed to be in

  • @bemace you are retard

  • @bemace God how true and funny!! We should shorten the name and just make it "spert" village... As most of the kind folks posting video's, while well meaning, are merely "sperts"...

  • @bemace lol at first it looked funny, but now i quite like it.... It is like watching stoner trying to explain something :D

  • Ham radio sounds hard.

  • is it fun?

  • @somejackball yes its fun, this video makes it seem far more difficult than it really is. The operator even demonstrates the incorrect phonetics for his call sign. so ignore this vid. In ham radio you can talk to astronauts on the space station, build and operate your own TV station or just chat to anyone around the world on your radio. Its no more difficult than CB, but you get to talk to the world.

  • well with the exception that a license is required , where no license is needed for CB obviously. So there is some work involved in starting up.

  • yes :) earning the license (studying for it) takes some effort, but in the end the work can pay off.

  • he looks like david letterman.

  • This was a great video. Im just getting into HAMs and Im trying to get my general license soon.

  • Good Job on the vid, name is Andrew and am proud to say that I have been a ham-operator for 5 years going on 6 I am 19 years old now. MY call sign is KG6YWB and my local is SoCal. 73's to all

  • you're fantastic dude

    73's from a 16 years-old ham-operator from Belgium

  • Comment removed

  • you're an idiot. troll. stfu.

  • some of the comments being made are obviously not being made by hams. Hams should know better

  • @gilljm75 Maybe that it because the TITLE is obviously for those NON-HAM people; that you are representing so well.

I have heard about Ham*ssholes like you. How much do you want to bet that someone one here knows how to do something you don't know anything about??? Some people really are f*cking *ssholes.

  • @gilljm75 hams as you call them wouldnt be here thus knowing what to say. people have to start somewhere

  • Sounds kind of distorted, doesnt sound like regular radio is that normal or is it because the signal was weak

  • It is Sideband

  • Hello HAMS!!!

KF5EIN from El Paso, Tx. 79936

  • 73's to all of you

    KC9QVE

  • Wow you generated a lot of comments. Almost one for each piece of misinformation presented.

    1) Why is CB in the description. It is a different radio service with different practices and goverened by a different part of the FCC regulations.

    2) Random application of home made phonetics OK except this is supposed to be a how to video. NATO phonetics please.

    3) Why give name location etc. before you have even made contact?

    4) So what was the "how to part"? pushing the mike button?

  • You don't have to start with your call sign. Part 97 says you must identify at the end of your last transmission, and at least every 10 minutes during a QSO. There's nothing major wrong with this video. The editing is a little jerky, and you don't explain what a "QSO" is (although you use the term). Oh, and the description says this is on a "CB radio." I've never seen CBs that operate (legally) on 20 meters!

  • You do not start with your name. YOU MUST START with your call sign PERIOD. then id every 10 minutes. And he is not using standard phonetics. That can confuse some people in other countries.

  • not exactly

  • Ok I have the fcc rules right here. tell me were I am wrong. Or better yet tell me what you mean. Good amateur practice says start with your call sign and thats every were I read. and have done for 10 years.

  • musiqueprof beat me to it, oh well

It's one of those ritual things that people mistake for law, there's a guy on the local repeater her... he must identify himself and the person he is talking to about 11 times every 4 minutes.

I am not sure if he is just nervous, forgetful, or likes to cover his butt; bless his heart for keeping on top of it though.

  • Sounds like a bad case of the nerves to me. The rukes say every 10 minutes. But the is kinda funny.

  • Some people its out of habit, either just because, or remembering the old rule where you had to ID at the beginning and end of each transmission , years ago.

  • I am a ham, but this guy is doing the worst job in the world. He's a dork.

  • @SuperJerkyBoys the hell is wrong with you?

  • Seems Like Alot Of These People Dont Get The Point Of Ham Radio It Is A Lot More Than A Glorified C.B Like A Dam Connex

  • To be technical CB is the 11 Meter band, in-between Amateur radio bands, is radio. Ham is in a way...... GLORIFIED, you need a licence and you have more freqs you can operate on, from low freq like 80 & 160 meter which gives you global capability. There is also VHF (Ham) amateur bands like 2 meter or higher, UHF; you can talk to the space shuttle. So YES glorified, but its all radio. The purpose is education. CB is for practical short range communication for the "citizen". Truckers like it.

  • I Happen To Be A Ham Radio Operator

Not All Truckers Like The Child Band Radio Any More There Are More Of Us Becoming Licensed For Ham Radio

As Of 11 Mtrs Being Short Ranged When A Good Sunspot Is In 11 Mtrs Is A Good Long Range Band

  • Look On Ebay You Might Find That Antique Over Glorified Radio There.

If It Isn't A Kenwood Yaesu Or An Icom Its Not A Real Radio

  • can't u just talk to the person and how in the world do u say were u r. i don't have a ham radio or anything just looking ahead in case of an emergency

  • Caráy !!! : (

    XE2EW

  • well i suppose this video even though lacking in spirit of hamming did restart my interest in HAMs. good job

  • 4S7DIG... your from srilanka isn`t it? i was wondering if you would help me get the license

  • Kurt...with all due respect, please get a clue in this day and age. Your narrow and somewhat untruthful vision of ham radio is both disappointing and a bit disrespectful to the hobby. Your series of videos certainly takes "the magic" out of ham radio. I am sorry you missed the magic and wonder of the hobby...guess there's not much of that left anymore.

    Nice hat.

  • ..you dont get the point of ham radio much do you?

  • Woot! Redmond Washington!!!

    KIRKLAND!!! Woot!!!!!!!!!

  • i love the begining

  • wow dude am 15 in I think I should get a video camera in put some real videos up on my ham radio acc on here because you do nothing to help in you make hams look stupid I have had my ticket for over a year in I can build my own antennas in that you need help man good luck with that maybe you should contact a mentel doctor

  • go back to English class.

  • LOL...thanks buddy, i've been having a pretty shitty day, and need that good laugh.

  • LOL..he cant find a pen OR the nail clippers.

  • He doesnt need to use code language. Lol. He just needs his call sign wtf.

  • Trollmaster unless u have a ham radio license

then go get one ok because u have to do what he does or have the fcc take away ure license oh btw thats how you fresh noobcakes make ure first contact

  • Comment removed

  • He's a wrong un.

  • wow that was cool, i want to get into Ham Radios, But i just have to build my shack first, currently fooling around on UHF radios with the local repeater but i think hams will be amazing, Thanks for sharing mate

  • if you dont know how to use a ham radio you shouldnt be useing it at all.

  • hi there thank you for this video is good to know the way US ham radio do the contacts,, saludos,, XE1ZUI

  • how bout learn something new and be informed, reddy don't knock it unless you try it.

  • Back in Cleveland, Ohio in the 1960s, I spied a neighbor with his HAM radio set up in his basement. I thought it was so cool! He could speak freely to all sorts of people! Greetings from France. Will share this video with a couple of tubefiends back in the States.

  • Hey, which phonetic alphabet do you use? Military or Police?

  • Its suppose to be a military phonetic (NATO ) but manyof these hams put their own spin on it and it sucks they should just stick to the nato phonetic alphabet cheers vk5xxx

  • yeah this fellas a pleb i would not describe him as an expert,, stick to nato, using all sorts of words as letters makes no sence really its a bit like making up your own CW "morse code"

  • Nice video. I did not know David Letterman was a Ham radio guy...ha ha

  • There Is Quite A Few Famous Hams Patty Lovelace For One.

David Letterman Use To Be A Weatherman He Probably Is A Ham You Never Know

  • I about Patty Loveless, not Lovelace, a porn actor famous for the movie "Deep Throat", now deceased. Patty Loveless had vocal cord surgery, could not even speak, much less sing, so her husband who is a Ham taught her Morse Code. She liked it so much, she got her license KD4WUJ. Thankfully Patty got her new singing voice back.

Letterman is a TV boradcaster & "hams" for attention, doubt he was ever an amateur radio operator. TV Weatherman is NO connection, but you spelled his name right! LOL!

  • a23hjy56422333,

If you transmit you can be found, and the fcc can and will fine you. a nice fine can come to the tune of $50,000 just so you know.

  • Get Caught Transmitting On That You Will Wish You Didn't Get Caught The Fines Are Costly I Have Been Told

  • Fine Business, you are a LID and your

Amateur Radio and Engineering Practices are worthy of 11metre operations.

BTW, Mr. Rogers, please clip your fingernails. Hygiene is important in these time and days. So, with that I will say seventy thirds and HIHI 10-4 good buddy, I am coming right up your back door. QSL?

    Assinine... simply Assinine!!

  • LMAO at him at 1:28 when he can't find a pen to log the stations call. Dweeb still can't find a pen after almost 30 seconds... :-)

  • I like curry, motorbikes and money. I found ham radio a bit silly actually though the rigs look cool.

  • utterfanny, look up "skywarn" and see what hams do with ham radio

  • 161 AT 101

  • One more thing...I don't know the phonetic alphabet. I just made stuff up in my last comment. I'm special.

  • Does anyone know if you can transfer a dead relatives call letters to yourself? I want to get a license and use my grandfather's former call letters WA3DLV. Woody Able 3 Delta Lima Victor. Does anyone know?

  • You can make up any callsign you like!

    What about I-eat-live-sheep ?

  • nasjr8, If the call is available you can get it. Just apply for a vanity call

  • "Learn tips on how to contact people on a ham radio in this free CB radio video."

Sorry bad source! This video is comming from a "cb radio video"??? It makes me sick that experts would even dare to use the word CB in an Amateur Radio video. So your saying your CBers teaching how to use an Amateur Radio???

    BAD VIDEO :(

  • the use of non standard phonetics is actually the ARRL standard , if I am not wrong.

  • He does not seem very organized, what was he looking for? Or trying to locate?

  • Excellent and informative,,,Thanks for posting. 73's from BlueCollarWorkshop N7RUE AZ

  • "Added: January 18, 2008 (More info)

Learn tips on how to contact people on a ham radio in this free CB radio video."

Contact hams using a CB radio?

    Where do I sign up?

  • Nancy seven and Fine Business, Hi, Hi! Excuse me I thought it said 'Expertvillage'.... jeebus!

  • hey guy nice use of non-standard phonetics in your standard method of HAM RADIO COMMUNICATIONS

  • Dude maybe spend less time making youtube videos and work a few more hours to get some real radio gear.

  • Hes not even listening to tom!

    73

    Dave

  • I didn't know David Letterman was a ham ;)

    Good stuff, thanks.

  • Nice videos. Thanks.
