Hopefully you guys can keep this up and help educate the area just a little bit better. It's sad to see a pet snake loose (pretty obvious since it hardly wiggled when you put it in the cage, wild ones can really fight), but seriously inform as many responsible reptile owners as you can. We are a lot more willing to find them homes than a zoo or the officials. Lucky this one was alive too, most people just shoot them or behead them. :(
I have one a Samon/Red Boa and her name is Lucy. She is so friendly and relaxed and I love caring for all of my reptiles as they are such amazing animals. Sadly not everyone understands what they are letting them selfs in for when they buy these, but thank heavens there people like you that will go and help!! :o)
RTB are usually quite docile. I have two pastels and they are the sweetest things. I live in Canada if I ever 'let them go' they would be frozen in minutes! That would be horrid.
I know that pythons have become a huge problem in Florida as they growing massive and are preying on the native alligators and taking over their territories.
hahaha we do know some reptile people. Thats what i always tell my non reptile friends. whos this person? Oh a reptile friend. or a reptile person. :p. i hate non reptile people! well dont hate just have trouble relating to them. i prefer talking about snakes 24/7
The problem isn't the people selling the animals but the ignorance of the buyer. I have several snakes including a tiger retic. She's right at 12' now. People buy them and don't spend the time researching what they are buying. A tiger Retic can easily reach 14' in a couple years. They don't take into account the enormous feeding expense and danger invloved. These are NOT beginners snakes and you should always do your homework first.
That being said. DO YOUR HOMEWORK. Are you willing to care for a snake like a Retic that can easily reach 20' and usually more? Do you have the room to house it? And would you be willing to dish out several hundred dollars a month to feed it, not to mention what your electric bill is going to go up every month for a climatized habitat? I do.. But remember, Zoo's have big snakes. They don't want yours when you cant care for it anymore. Then what?
I tottally agree. we have 2 burms and 3 boas(One of them being a HUGE 10 foot ones and i am not exagerating. and there all rescues or adoptions. people underestimate them
@iced696 feeding expense? I've talked to a lot of people whose retic diet costs less than that of a ball python. The biggest problems when "newbies" buy big snakes are enclosure and proper heating, as well as handling.
They don't just live in jungles. A common misconception. They can be found in all kinds of habitats including deserts

@DVFDrinkOrDie ummm what kind of snake are you talking about..Boas, burms can not live in a desert lol

People who just dump their animals give reptile keepers a bad name...
It makes me upset that people say snakes shouldn't be pets because of stupid people who don't know to take care of them.

That Sucks I wish I was near you or something,I would Adopt these large pythons I raise burms and retics and boas Checkout my videos some time.

I'm surprised it wasn't a Burm. I guess that's a good thing. Burmese pythons can get 20ft+ and are much more snappy than RTBs.

IMO, I don't know why people keep snakes as pets; you can't pet them unless you like the sensation of scales.
My friend's husband has 2 gigantic Pythons living in his basement.
I haven't been to her house since he got them.
Still, having a snake as a pet isn't as bad as having a tarantula--or ANY spiders.
You CERTAINLY can't pet a spider, and just looking at one terrifies me beyond a rational explanation.

Hey! I love reptiles. Snakes are amazing. No, they aren't particularly "cuddly", but they are beautiful and fascinating.
