This is interesting. Actually, the Chinese Exclusion Act was passed in 1882 to exclude the Chinese from coming for 10 years but was extended indefinitely until the Magnuson Act. Although many had intentions of returning, they didn't have a choice to return home due to economic reasons. They were used as cheap labor. It wasn't just because of competition in work that caused Exclusion, it was racism. Whites didn't want the Chinese to integrate into society.
