The theory of Relativity is routinely tested, and retested, no one objects to this kind of research, but if someone wants to examine the role of transposons as a possible mechanism in morphology of a species, then suddenly there is a serious problem. Theories are properly subjected to testing and examination in science. Dogma is what you get when evidence is no longer allowed for consideration.
You didn't get the nuance I was trying to make. Nothing starts out as laws, except in religion which is based on dogmas. The scientific method starts out with hypotheses and end up with theories. As these theories pass the test of time and intense scrutiny, they eventually become laws.

Currently, Natural selection is a theory, but since all evidence which might potentially challenge natural selection is disallowed, it satisfies the operational definition of dogma, as you described.

You cannot make an absolute statement about something not existing unless you know everything. It's like saying there's no such thing as aliens. The thing is that we can't know ANYTHING for sure. Absolute knowledge is a red herring. A sane position is to actually care about believing as many true things as possible as supported by evidence and reason.
If we start believing in anything without good reasons, evidence or on faith (whether it is religion, astrology, conspiracy theories, etc.), we open the door to many unhealthy beliefs. One's beliefs inform one's actions, ergo bad or unjustified beliefs result in reprehensible actions.

Yes we can say that a thing doesn't exist in our practical lives. For instance, there is no evidence that unicorns exists. Therefore, I consider them (I assume you do too) as non-existent. So to be consistent with ourselves, we can consider a god or gods just as non-existent given the lack of evidence for any.

If they actually wanted to help they would leave the safety blanket of religion and help make the world a better place for generations to come. We have this life, atheist, theist or otherwise and we are accountable to our descendents for the world that we leave behind.

Where in the bible did you get the volcano thing? Regarding challenges to the theory of Darwin: This issue is not merely religion verses science, it has become an old science vs new science issue. Current research which may show other mechanisms for the morphology of life is also treated with disdain. It is as though molecular biology has committed heresy against a dogma- the dogma of Darwinism. Why are you so upset that people might not accept Darwinism?

Dogmas? Really? You do know that dogmas are eatablished beliefs or doctrines. The theory of evolution is far from being that. It's a scientific theory that is the cornerstone of so many scientific advances. If this theory was proven false by anyone, he/she would get a Nobel prize! So far, it didn't happen...and its been more than 150 years. Anyways, dogmas are more akin to religions.

Do you know many scientific theories that escape modification over a 150 year span of time? Part of the scientific method is to test and retest a given model. Occasionally, information comes along from other research which has a potential impact on a given model, and again, tests are done. If the theory holds up fine, if not, the theory is modified. Either way, our understanding is furthered. If all further tests, are vehemently objected, then we have transformed theory, into dogma.

I don't disagree with what you say, really. I think its simply a semantic debate. If by dogma you mean law, then I agree. Usually when a theory have passed all objective tests, it becams a law. Ex: Laws of thermodynamics wich started as theories. Dogmas are really a set of beliefs which aren't backed by any evidence.

The laws of thermodynamics are stated as laws. There is a difference between a theory and a law. The theory of Relativity is routinely tested, and retested, no one objects to this kind of research, but if someone wants to examine the role of transposons as a possible mechanism in morphology of a species, then suddenly there is a serious problem. Theories are properly subjected to testing and examination in science. Dogma is what you get when evidence is no longer allowed for consideration.

You didn't get the nuance I was trying to make. Nothing starts out as laws, except in religion which is based on dogmas. The scientific method starts out with hypotheses and end up with theories. As these theories pass the test of time and intense scrutiny, they eventually become laws.

Oh I did get the nuance, and I think you stated the definition of dogma very well. Additionally, I agree with your definition of a scientific law. Currently, Natural selection is a theory, but since all evidence which might potentially challenge natural selection is disallowed, it satisfies the operational definition of dogma, as you described.

There may indeed be another mechanism for morphogenisis. It's not disallowed haha. By the way, natural selection is a part of the theory of evolution, which is (not surprisingly) a theory. That evolution occurs, however, is a fact. We've got plenty of evidence that shows it. The theory is in the explanation of exactly how it works. Don't get the two confused, and do remember that we're talking about science. As such, creationism is irrelevant as, by its own admission, it is describing something that is outside of the realm of science. Simple as that.

If you can show me evidence of this breakdown and the intentional exclusion of new information, go ahead. Otherwise, do not claim that natural selection has become dogmatic.
