Nice video, I think I may stay the winter in Spokane, check it out. I lived in Kennewick for 6 months, nice but just a little too small for me. I live in San Diego and might move or at least split my time between here and somewhere else. Can someone clue me in on the comments I keep hearing about Spokane along the lines of "very trashy" "Spokompton" "loaded with homeless" "filled with meth-heads", is it that bad or just people exaggerating ( I honestly do not know and have not made judgements).

Well, the downtown area of Spokane is quite dilapidated, run-down and has a general "dirty" feel to it. There are a lot of homeless people who like to hang out downtown (especially around the Division and Sprague intersection). The majority of the town feels like it's a small town that got forced into being a big city so its upkeep isn't top-notch.

Still, I go to Gonzaga and I couldn't think of a place where I'd rather go to school. Even if the town my school is in is trashy.

Can a lower middle class person (30K) afford to escape the trashy factor and live in an ok neighborhood? In San Diego you are stuck living around trashy people if you do not make really good money. Can you please give me your thoughts on the slang word "SPOKOMPTON"? Thanks!

@tickyul Well... You can get an older house on the lower-end of the South Hill with 30k pretty easily, renting or buying. Or you could also go VERY far north and get into the suburbs fairly inexpensively.

And as far as "trashy" goes, the majority of the town does have kind of a low-class, trashy feel to it. But the further away you get from downtown, the easier it is to escape that feel.

And for "Spokomton," let's just say that I have known GU students to have been mugged and robbed before.

How about the Urban American population (PC for you know who), I find I am not wanting to live around them any more. In San Diego the downtown area is littered with bums and psychos. A lot of the neighborhoods have lots of trash everywhere, pretty nasty. Ciao!
