Thanks for sharing!! Loved the comparisons....Hope it's no bother to ask,What is the Range on the Big Lama...and would you recommend for beginners? Thanks again Rob-
@robbie2737 Late awswer, but i just got the Big Lama, and i am brand new to heli's. but i strongly recommend it. Its easy to drive, but still a very advanced heli and alot of features. Go Lama Style baby
Dear Mikeymarmalade, great video! Could you explain what kind of adjustments have been done after unsuccessful first flight of Big Lama? As far as I just got the same hely. It is very good for gym but when I tried it outdoor with very light wind, result was the same with your first attempt. The helicopter flies itself not under control.
@starbeta1 I did not make any adjustments to the helicopter, just the TX. I made the forward flight better so that I could turn into the wind and stop it blowing away.
The wind was right to left. When I moved right, it was slow, even with the adjustments because I was flying into the wind. When I turn with the wind, notice how quickly it accelerated. That is what you have to be aware of flying outside. There are times when there is no wind when you can fly how you like but those times are rare!
@Exoskull969 I will try to explain the video in simple terms for you. The 'test' is a comparison of the Big Lama in wind and compared to other similar sized helicopters. To do that they have to be flown too. Get it?
I have meet some senior flyer (This what i call them went they reach to a pro level)
They said it better u start with belf cp v2 because it more cheaper. And the best part is ...he said to me that belf cp is more difficult to fly.But went u master is ...
Nice aircraft but that's no fair trial. How did you expect your helicopters to hold steady against the air when you weren't even steady with the throttle? you were just jerking them around. I bet you a steadier hand would have shown that the skylift would have held up the most having a larger total blade discs area.
My apologies if that sounded rude to anyone. Sorry. I forgot of the effect caused on the rotor disc if it's facing forward and suddenly airspeed increases. You were right, it is difficult. Anyway have a nice day man :)
I suppose I should explain that the main reason for dipping the throttle was to lower altitude to get out of the stronger winds. You see this particularly near the hedge as the wind was blowing in that direction.
The CB180D is a dollbaby to fly! Pretty much as stable as a coax, and yet flies around like about any FP does. Check out the vids on this helicopter, it flies so nice! I love mine! 23 flights so far!
I have had 4 small to medium size helicopters now, I would definitely recommend the Big Lama to anyone jumping into this hobby: The heli is very stable, it's quite cheap as are the parts when you crash.
Thanks, Mike. You just sold me on the Lama. I've a Eflite CX3 that flies well, other than it loves to fly other places when the wind comes up, and my days of trashing single-rotor ships is over and gone.
Why do they call it a Lama? Looks more like an EADS Squirrel. Fine by me, I love EADS birds. Still, for scale flight, I like it.
Hi, Yes it is a Squirrel and I am painting mine now to look like the training aircraft from RAF Shawbury in the UK. Esky have their funny ways :) Bye the way, I have got CNC silver upgrades and blades for it too. I also want to add some lights. I have a military body, lights, blades and metal upgrades for the MD500 when I get time to fit them!
Blitiz has the same art-tech Md500 repackaged with carbon fiber blades and miro camera installed. Big lama is the best coax hands down esp in 2.4 vs 72 format. Ive flown mine in wind, rain and over the pool many times, needs a head locking gyro!
Hi Gordon, I have all three and they are all good. I take it you haven't flown the Skylift (or tried to) in wind. When you do, let me know how you got on - and how many parts you need for your helicopter!
hey, mike i am going to buy big lama and do you think i need to buy different blade for not to happen blade strike.because i want to fly outside like you did but i am a beginner little worry about craches?thanks for any suggestion.
Thanks ! mighty useful info, I've been looking that Lama and it's very attractive package. I know it's compromise getting co-ax for outdoors, but I don't wanna get ahead of my skills and wreck copters I can't fly yet.
Like it did! I bought a EF Sabre, much like the fixed pitch Honey Bee and wrecked it on my first day, cost £36 to repair. Im going to start again with a co-ax after my costly mistake.
again excellent video-Do you know that walkera are bring out a 2.4ghz Lama 400 helicopter that is over 650mm in length ! 380 motor with a 7.4v 1200mAh battery Li-Po
they dont handle as well in the wind because they are co- axil. you probably know about this but i will say it anyway. you cant fight the wind becuase there is less forward thrust with co axils because there is twice the amount of stablness rotors meaning there is twice the amountof force trying to keep it level. with a less stable heli or just one with one axil you can go faster forwards and backwards because there is less force keeping it upright meaning you can go headfirst into the wind.
Would be curious what the MD500 is like higher up, as was thinking of buying the model with a cam in it, but wondered how bad the wind is going to affect it up high. Great tests though , intresting to see how they handle outside in wind.
Interesting Test, Thanks for posting it. I was shopping between the Big Lama and the Art Tech and decided on the Big Lama because of the ease of up grading the landing skids to "SuperSkids" to better accommodate a camera. The Big Lama has performed pretty good in a light breeze, but it has gotten in trouble when caught in a gust, but over-all I'd give it a thumbs up!

If you look closely you will observe that it was impossible to control the Skylift because of the wind. It had nothing to do with throttle!

Mikey- I got myself a Walkera CB180D. Same Bell flybar, yes. It don't like wind, either. Oh, well, that's what the living room is for....!

Oh, and my CX3 is officially grounded. My CB180D rips it completely. And it's durable, too! Check out Xheli for a great price while you're at it.

This is what he meant by the above comment:
"have the big lama.
Problems motor. It's does not fly whit wind.
Construction is very bad.
Soon on youtupe a video whit detail.
When you fly for 2 minits the gear get warm and the motor blocks the gear.
Never fly outside.
And i fly whit the belt v2 also a bad machine.
Motor problems.
Thanks"
