  • iv been there its soooooooooooooooooooo cool

  • Has anyone read Ron Chernow's new book on Washington? Fascinating read especially on Mt Vernon. I wish I had read at least the first 200 pages before I visited Mt Vernon.

  • Dear Mr. Hill, My mother attended George Washington U while my father was at the Naval Academy, and later my father received a Masters in International Affairs from GWU, yet neither took me to Mount Vernon, nor ever encouraged me to read a book on George Washington. I have corrected that void in my education, I feel very much blessed to live so near, indeed to be a Neighborhood Friend of Mount Vernon. I have many photos of Mount Vernon, including when covered with snow. Blessings to you. JRM

  • I was there once with my mother.

    We loved Mount Vernon.

    It is a beautiful place.

The house and grounds are breathtaking.

    George Vreeland Hill

  • @GeorgeVreelandHill , I responded on the comments page, before I discovered this reply button on your post. Where do you live nowadays? When you come to visit again, contact me, and if schedules permit, we can view the place together.

  • I was there last week. Awesome! I wish I could have stayed longer but I had to catch a flight.

  • @nujac321 Where was your flight off to? On Constitution Day, I returned from a talk at Strategic Command at Offutt AFB in Nebraska, and we approached from the south along the Potomac River, where I was able to see Mount Vernon from the aircraft window.

  • @StatesManship I was at Mt. Vernon last Saturday morning. I had a 3pm flight to Dallas. Barely made it though. I enjoyed the trip to Mt. Vernon and I am glad that I was able to go. Next time I will plan to stay longer.

  • "Hitler's concept of concentration camps as well as...genocide owed much...to his studies of ...US history. He admired the camps for... the Indians in the wild West; and often praised to his inner circle the efficiency of America's extermination -- by starvation and uneven combat -- of the red savages who could not be tamed by captivity." John Toland in Adolf Hitler pg 702

Toland is a respected historian; he & others clearly say Hitler copied the Genocide from US & Armenian Genocides

  • @EBanonymous I had a college roommate whose nickname was "EB", but you are EBanonymous, not the same. Why are you afraid to identify yourself? My "YouTube" handle of StatesManshipUSA, includes my family name of Manship, my nickname is StatesManship. Now to your comment, there are "respected historians" who are far from "respectable" and a shade short of honest. Joseph Ellis is one such example who claimed to be a Viet Nam War Vet, though he never was in the Viet Nam theater of action. Toland?

  • And EBanonymous. I took a minute to read about John Toland, whose name I knew but I was not fully aware of all his writings. I noticed that he wrote about Democrat Roosevelt knowing about the planned bombing of Pearl Harbor, but did not tell Admiral Kimmel. Toland is respectable, not like Ellis, whose slam job on Jefferson was based on his Pro-Clinton politics, NOT the FACTS of History.

  • This is a beautiful video.Mt.Vernon is a lovely place and some day I hope to visit it and pay my respects to George Washington and his family.

  • This is sick. Kids playing around and running about on a SLAVE PLANTATION!

Do you let your kids run around and play in Dacau? How about Auscwits? Maybe we should bring grandma and have a picnic too!

The stuff Americans do in their cult leader worship of the presidents is astonishing. Slavery doesnt mater; Genocide of NA peoples doesnt matter. Just adore the "Dear Leader".

Dont forget the Africans who spent their entire lives working without pay and at gunpoint where ur kids play. Speechless

  • @EBanonymous George Washington (a great Leader) was our First President and very respected and loved at that time. You need to stop living in "Hollywood World" and start buffing up on your American History to see what made this country Great!

  • @bluupanda1

I already told you what made this country: the Genocide of the indigenous peoples that they took the land from; the slaves they made of them & when that didn't work, the importation of African slaves. Historians say this was what the economy & country was made of; I've seen 0 Hollywood films even discuss it.

History? Why did the Seneca call GW "The Town Destroyer"? Please tell me. Oney Judge escaped slavery from him; she didn't say she loved him. Have u read that history?

  • "god shed his grace on us" that song is more mythology that "god" helped make and guide the US. And the Germans sang about Thor and the Black Forest (no comment).

    "From sea to shinning sea"

means killing all the Indian people living in between. Where are they today? Just a few left on some reservations.

Oh, And they Seneca tribe called Washington "The Town Destroyer" after he ordered Gen Sullivan in 79 to destroy 28 out of 30 towns - 100s died,

This is cult worship Kim il-song style

  • @EBanonymous You know dude if you don't like America,Delta is ready when you are.If this is such a God awful country as you suppose it is,you should find you a country you can be proud of.Don't let the door hit you in the ass on the way out!

  • @cowbelltg

If you believed half the rhetoric about "freedom" & "human rights" like most Americans claim, then you'd have no problem with other people having a different opinion living right next to you in the land of "freedom". But like I said, Americans say one thing & do another.

You claim to respect differences, free speech & beliefs, but when somone says something you don't like, you say "get out". Such intolerance is what one would expect in the "axis of evil". Maybe u'd be happy there

  • @EBanonymous You know what, you are the one bitching and complaining about how bad America is.You are the one that says this country was founded on genocide.

But the truth is,you know their isn't another country on the face of the earth better than this nation.Gripe and moan all you want to but you know this nation is as good as it gets.

  • @cowbelltg

I said the country was gounded by Genocide & slavery & this is uncontroversial & true. Then you claim it's the best place on earth.

What nonsense you speak. There you go again with the superiority argument. Notions are not good, they 're just power centres that manipulate their populations & hurt others

4 million Koreans killed in the war; 3-4 million Vietmanese. 1 million Iraqi's in the 90's & 1 million now. U talk about "good" & "best"? Look at what u've done!

  • @anonymous Unfortunately slavery was a part of this nation when it was founded, but we rectified it,but genocide no. Your confusing America with the U.S.S.R. or China,Cuba Or any other so called people paradise, that you should call home.

This is the greatest nation in the history of mankind!Opressed people from around the world risk life and limb to get here, just to be free.Your abilty to trash this nation is a testimony to how great this nation is.Try that some where else and see how it goes

  • @cowbelltg

Yes Genocide of the natives living all across the continent. The so called "Indians" the US systematically murdered for their land. Cuba didn't do that but the ilegal blockade in violation of UN votes & law is a disgrace.

The Hatians that risked life & limb spend years detained in Guantanamo in the 90's - the now infamous torture chamber. And yes, immigrants get on boatsin Africa to get to Europe - so ur "we're the greatest" is nonsense.

Most powerful nation - yes. & indoctrinated

  • @EBanonymous Yes they were some awful things done to the Indians but they were just as guilty of the same. The primary reason they failed was their unwillingness to adapt, not genocide.

As for Cuba, ever heard of Che Guevera?Blockade, what blockade?

Oh yes,I forgot about that big melting pot of Europe, please.None of those nations are to be compared to the U.S.A.

I would really like to know what nation you think is the greatest nation?I bet its Cuba.

Oh BTW, to hell with the U.N.

  • @cowbelltg

The US has an ilegal blockade of Cuba for years - in violation of international law. Sad thing is you really believe you r better. Such arrogance & stupidity is astonishing.

Just like David Duke! Why u say no Holocaust? Facts don't matter to u. The "Indians" did nothing wrong & had no reason to adapt. They were robbed & killed.

Hitler copied his Holocaust from what the US did to them. Another American achievement.

  • @EBanonymous Their is no blockade of Cuba.Their is a embargo but no blockade.

We American's don't believe we are better than any one else.We believe that freedom is better and only through freedom can a man live to his absolute potential.

Yeah dude the Indians were just sweet and innocent and never masscarred a village, please.

  • @EBanonymous Hitler copied his Holocaust from what the US did to them. Another American achievement.

Now dude your just making stuff up.

  • @cowbelltg

"Hitler saw the settlement of the New World and the concomitant elimination of North America's Indian population by white European settlers as a model to be followed by Germany on the European continent" Greenwood, pg 288 in the book "Genocide and the Modern Age"

"Hitler's "continental war of conquest" was modeled "with explicit reference to the United States" Joachim C. Fest, Hitler pg 214

Scholars say 1) "Indians" were killed in Genocide in US & 2) Hitler copied it.

    Vs

    you.

  • Last September I actually was able to spend about an hour on the piazza completely alone with no one around. What an experience to be there after hours. I could just imagine how the Washington's must have loved being at Mt Vernon.

  • @amunrey

If I was there, i could think of the slaves that Washinton supervised who spend their lives on that field of death to make him rich.

Many are burried right next to where u sat. Well, not Tom, a slave who washington sold in 1766 for rum and molassed to the West Indies. Maybe he drank some of it sitting exactly where you sat.

We should study and know history. How we we feel going to the caves where Albert Speer forced slaves to build weapond for the Germans? Not very different

  • Very nice video! It is a beautiful house!

  • I have been there and it is the most beautiful place i have ever seen.I would love to go back some day.

  • the general is gay

  • YES, GOD BLESS THE GENERAL!!!!

  • Wonderful tour. Thank you for filming and posting this video. What a magnificent view from the back porch (and what a back porch!). I could only smile as I watched. Again, thanks. God bless George Washington and all he stood for.
