He could bowl a bit at the time, one of Somerset coach Dermot Reeve's more obscure coaching experiments was to try to turn Marcus into an all rounder. Surprised this was his only wicket at test level tho
Its not amazing, for stats Trescothick has alredy taken FIRST-CLASS HAT-TRICK! I know i sound stupid but its true. His a good bowler, but his got a funny action!

Mental Trescothick is ill when he's abroad, yet he still plays for somerset at home. wtf is this so-called "stress related illness"? it's a crock of bull, that's what it is. he lost his fucking bottle and cried all the way back home. fucking cunt.
What an absolute bollocks comment, tressa is a legend and what gives you the right to knock him. Stress related illnesses can be really serious so shut up if you know whats good for you.
You've got that right. He was an under-appreciated player, and his absence post-2005 has been arguably the biggest factor in England's dip in fortunes - as well as the fab four not being fit and firing.
The impetus he gave England's innings in the 2005 Ashes was a huge part of England's success. He's arguably England's greatest ever ODI batsman too.
Always loved watching him play. Sad that we won't see him on the international stage again.
You dirty cheating cunt Trescothick....... sucked on a lollie recently have you??? I guess we should have expected this though from the country that gave us Bodyline....... When you realise you can't beat the Aussies fair and square you have to resort to blatant cheating.
In terms of 'sportsmanship', which I was replying to, yes, it was.
And Bodyline was no more dangerous than the Windies 80s bouncer barrage, or the intimidation Lillee and Thompson inflicted on the English in '74. Part of the game.
@mymentor I never said bodyline was any different to those, I'm just saying its a stupid comparison. It's way more unsportsmanlike. They bowled those balls with full intention to hurt the batsman. How is that better than a guy bowling an underarm ball?
Also, it shouldn't be part of the game. It's less dangerous nowadays with the helmets, but back then head blows were very dangerous, and for any team to employ a strategy focusing on deliveries to the head sickens me.
"for any team to employ a strategy focusing on deliveries to the head sickens me"
You should brush up on your history then, as fast leg theory (or Bodyline) quite simply didn't focus on 'deliveries to the head' at all. It focussed on deliveries bowled to the ribs and chest on the 'line of the body' with the aim of batsmen fending to a packed leg-side cordon.
I'll agree it was bad for the game, although aesthetically rather than being in any way unsportsmanlike.
@mymentor We only won in Birmingham 2005 because the umpire gave kasprowich out when he wasn't with 3 runs to spare. We were very lucky to win that series.
@mymentor I didn't say we didn't deserve to win. We did. But we also didn't deserve to lose a series to the West Indies a few years ago when they beat us 1-0 by drawing two tests 9 and 8 wickets down with 150+ runs to attain. We were still very lucky to because Kasprowicz should NOT have been given out. His hand was not on the bat when the ball struck it which means it is no longer considered an extension of the bat and being caught off it is not out. Look it up.
Mate, Kasprowicz took one hand off his bat after the ball had hit his glove - and besides, the glove the ball did hit remained on the bat. Either way, he was out, plain and simple.
The only way it could have been considered not out would be if he removed a hand from the bat and the ball hit that hand's glove and was caught. That's not what happened, and the correct decision was made.
@mymentor@mymentor From the times article: "No One Spared A Thought For Kasprowicz At The Time"... he wasn't actually out, televised replays showing that the right-hand glove which the ball struck, and was caught by wicketkeeper Geraint Jones, was not on the bat handle." Unfortunately there isn't any good footage of this on YouTube and all the vids make it look as you described but I assure you, it wasn't.
I've got the (brilliant) DVD of that series. I've seen the match and the dismissal many times. It was out.
I've played the game all my life, and come from a family whose religion is cricket. I know the game, and its rules, very well. Kaspro was out. End of story.
He was also probably out lbw 50 runs earlier, which few people remember. Either way, it made for the more epic finish the way it ended.
@mymentor I also own that DVD XD It is a fantastic one. I love Mark Nicholas' commentary and wish he was involved with TMS. I do find your defiance of all forms of media alarming, however. There isn't an article in the world that says "he was out! The doubters are wrong!". His dismissal did save test cricket (probably).
that was a superb piece of bowling. swing, accuracy, pace and seam movement shown by a spectacular delivery. i particularly enjoy his side-on action with a relaxed aproach allowing marcus to deliver the ball with control but with venom. he enticed the drive and nazir would never have been able to survive that ball, it would have got the greats of the game out (inc richards and tendulkar). im looking forward to seeing marcus' second test wicket. the greatest achievement in sporting history.

Are you guys serious, bodyline? underarm bowling? Who give a fuck. All past and who cares.
So the English won, congrats to them. It's about time they stopped getting thrashed at all the games they invented.
I thought this video was about the Trescothick wicket, not just another boring, generic Australian-English hate session.

Well, England did beat Aus fair and square in 05, mate. Beat 'em fair and square with pretty much a second XI in the Comm Bank series in 06/07 too.
As for blatant cheating - he's sucking a lolly to keep the saliva going. Mark Taylor was incessantly chewing on gum to achieve the same thing.
As for Bodyline, which country was it that brought us the underarm delivery?
Get a life, dude.
mymentor 3 years ago 26
@mymentor stick with the times blame the person or the team, not the nation (eg Jardine and England, G Chappell and Aus)
lavan2912 1 year ago
@mymentor Mmm, yes, because the underarm delivery was aimed at an unprotected batters head and injured people.
Totally a fair comparison.
