Great lifting mate. Not sure how much you weigh but that must be close to, if not over, body weight? Dan John has a great article on OHSs here danjohn . org/overhead . html (remove spaces). 15 reps with bodyweight is the goal!
That's why, as with any piece of exercise equipment, you're supposed to replace it after years after consistent, heavy use. With bars, it's usually when they start to bend that you know it's time to get a new one (if not sooner). A good weightlifting bar (Eleiko, Werksan, etc.) IS going to last through "some years of use + heavy weights" -- that's exactly what it's designed for.
should i lift alot if im training just to get to the basketball rim? or should i go small and alot of reps? i dont wanna look like a body builder i just want to increase my vertical jump. any sugestions?
very good form. if you're having trouble getting the weight overhead, i've found that unracking the bar using an olympic-style front squat hold is easier for that. then you just thrust it over your head like it's the second half of a clean&jerk.

Thanks! It's about 10lbs over bodyweight. I don't really train OHSQ much - x15 would be amazing!

15xBW is the gold standard for CrossFit, indeed.
Still, very impressive. 10 lbs over BW is something to be proud of.

what!!!! 15xBW!!!!!!! you could fricken jump 8 feet in the air if that was possible!!!
make sure you say 15lbs over BW not 15XBW!!!lol

bumper plates yes...bars??? they do bend
fuzzybbohio 5 years ago
It's a 1000lb-test bar. Unless you are thowing one end of it on the floor with all your might, it shouldn't bend w. 225.

really destroy bars dropping them like that
fuzzybbohio 5 years ago
Bumpers plates + Olympic lifting bar. They are designed to be dropped.

But they still get broken, not every day but...they surely will get broken with some years of use + heavy weights

i recently switched from back squats parallel to overhead squats atg. best decision i ever made
BAL3DY 5 years ago
Are you trying to get stronger? If so, load the bar up heavy and do some back/front squats as well. They should be a staple in any training program.
