  • Best DT-song period.

  • this is the best song of the album, i think a great song with new sonorities and traditional style ...build me up breake me down maybe is one of the worst songs ever created, it is far from their own sound and it's quite ridiculous...by the way this entire work is better than SC and BL&SL and maybe also than Octavarium... too much melodic but good

  • SPOILERS

  • just finished listening to the whole song and it is EPICCCC

  • Why has making coments been disabled on the backs of angels video and lost not forgotten also? Please explain

  • @elekrikal It's because the album leaked, and RoadRunner don't want people telling each other where to find the album on their own videos.

  • I own the full version. Their best song in years.

  • I've just heard the full song, it's so frickin' epic, heavy, melodic and proggy at the same time, seriously. Btw, this snippet starts at 4:22 in the full song.

  • @Fezek0 I also heard it, listening at it atm, so epic and beatiful, there are others

  • @Skimpsnable o.o

  • @Skimpsnable And where did you listen the full version?

  • @MaximumPayne12 I just found it on MP3 Skull

  • @Skimpsnable It was a dream, yeh?

  • Prog-ably one of their best albums since SDOIT

  • I have the extended snippet. No joke, it sounds like In The Presence of Enemies part 1. Send me a message if you want it. I have Build me up break me down, outcry and bridges in the sky extended as well..

  • from 0:41 to 0:50 may be one of the greatest DT moments ever. This album seems so classically progressive, but with the virtuostic elements within the band that have been perfected over the 25+ ears they've been together.

  • For God's sake they MUST play this tune in every show of the next tour.

  • 0:59-1:00 NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • This is the silver lining of the black clouds

  • @gotha lol

  • All my hopes for listen a real prog song are in this

  • this snippet is mothafuckinpsychosane

  • i can imagine john myung on fighting suit appear over this song

  • this is my ringtone XD

  • @chrisx8x23x95 I was thinking of making this my ringtone too, but then I'd have too many missed calls

  • @Zerosh1ft hahahahahaha!!!!!!

  • john myung u are the fuckin master! greasest bassist ever and your lyrics kick ass too!!

  • can't stop replaying!

  • when i heard the piece from 0:43 i had think of a game like zelda :P but seriously. love this song!! cant wait for the album to come out!

  • @TiSij

hey, if Dream Theater music reminds me of my favorite classic video games, then I like it even more!

    ;D

  • VERSION. MYUNG. SINGING. NOW.

  • @AMAZINGDOG402 Infact The Best of Times had a demo sung by MP, Wither had a demo sung by JP, so there MUST be a version with Myung singing! XD

  • @GianfrixMG I know, infact, this has nothing to do with this, but, in In The Presence of Enemies, you can hear either some voice crack or auto tune in someplaces, still, Myung needs to sing this, or a version of Fatal Tragedy, or Lifting Shadows off a Dream, or whatever other songs he wrote.

  • Of course this song is beast, John Myung wrote the lyrics.

  • The harmonised vocals.. it touches some serious heartstrings. I'm just basking in joy right now n_n

  • a newer metal version of learning to live! amazing!

  • @jack0eagle I really love this snippet and all the others making me want to hear the album more but I agree with you, it's like they went back to Images And Words type of prog and added more Metal to it so I think it's more like Learning To Live meets Sacrificed Sons from Octavarium meets The Ministry Of Lost Souls from Systematic Chaos

  • please, can you clean the CD before upload?

  • SEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARCHING OUT !!! REEEEEEEEEACHING IN !

  • This is the direction they should have took after Falling Into Infinity.

This album is gonna make shine this band again.

  • @IlVadalino Couldn't have said it better myself

  • @IlVadalino Cmon. SFAM, 6DOIT, TOT, SC, OCTAVARIUM and last but not least BCASL are all great albums as well...

  • @progrocky I don't know brother, it's just that, except for some specific songs, I didn't really appreciate those albums; especially the last ones. But most of all I think didn't appreciate this darkish sound they got into.

  • sounds like an anime kinda music

  • @YorickMori69 anime music? are you high?

  • @YorickMori69 It was written by Myung....

  • @123454321qcat really?? yea thats why it sounds like korean anime.... lol just kidding this snippet is the best snippet so far

  • jizzed myself when that pan flute started, hafta go shower again

  • @coltron32 ROFL

  • @coltron32 Really? WOW

  • 00:40 to the end: BLIND FAITH

  • Comment removed

  • LYRICS BY MYUNG

  • James Fuckin Labrie and John BEARtrucci are FUCKIN THE MEN

  • @CGuzzoBC re. Falling Into Infinity: i definitely sense a bit of peruvian skies in the new snippet of "this is the life"

  • Haven't really been a fan of DT that much but On the Backs of Angels and these snippets are some of the most promising works I've heard from them, ever.

  • @Krowsnest I'm loving these snippets as well. You should check out the album 'Images and Words'. Many people agree it was DT at their best (though I think it ties with Systematic Chaos and Black Clouds, and hopefully this album as well). :)

  • @Arkatox good suggestions. I think I've liked older DT over their last few albums tbh, and these newer songs seem to remind me more of old DT

  • I can't wait!!! I must have "A dramatic turn of events" now!!!

  • All the songs that Myung writes the lyrics for are some of my favorites and this one does not seem like it will be any different! I cannot wait for this album to come out!!

  • I'm in love with this song already.

  • I had a train of thoughts that your ass was awake, and that your pants needed a change of season because when I introduce my octavarium it feels like falling into infinity, maybe Im misunderstood but I'm pretty sure you had diarrea becuase I had the best of times in there, it felt like a glass prison at first but then it was like home, I prefer you ass because your cunt has so many crabs that it looks like a metropolis.

  • This song is so catchy melody & word wise... It should be considered for a Heavy play on the Rock Stations,

and pushed as the new Hit! - Even if it required condensing it a bit for air play.

    Can't wait until my pre-ordered CD/DVD arrives!

  • "Searching out, reaching in, to arrive where I begin" - this line may be a reference to Octavarium. I hope so anyway!

  • @PowerThrash how is it a reference? i dont really see the connection.

  • @pianoman4184 Because a lyrical theme in Octavarium was all about stories/events/journeys ending up exactly where they begin. Much like the line in this song.

  • @PowerThrash also them going back to their roots i.e. something similar to images and words (maybe the style of writing or recording)

  • I really like this song!!! I think it will be one of my favourite songs of this album!

  • can't wait to hear the entire album. this sounds like it will be worth the wait

  • 0:42 : Learning to Live !!!! ^^

  • Peoples, DT are BACK!!!!! :D

  • At 0:48 : 15/16, 5/4, 9/8, 11/8?

And the interview James and John said this wasn't even the most prog song on the album? Holy shit get ready for a wild ride!!! This album is going to be so awesome!!!

  • @tatfr0guy No, it was for On The Backs of Angels that he said wasnt the most prog song.

  • @tatfr0guy It's definitely prog, but not in the technical sense, but in an epic, songwriting sense. They said Outcry and This is the Life were the most technical on the album

  • @GasparXR This snippet has both the technical and songwriting epicness, which is amazing and of course what dt is loved for by their fans because of the balance they provide. Take the chorus: its in 5/4, which no one but a prog band would use, and still sounds melodic and amazing. I and a lot of dt fans happen to love songs like dance of eternity, and it sounds like there might be a song like that on this album hence my comment.

  • every clip i've heard sounds like the production is really really strong.. it almost seems like John had been waiting for this chance to run the show for a long time and he's thriving!

  • siiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiccccck!!!! i let the first 20 secs sink in for a bit, a lil bit underwhelmed... but after that.. SIIIIICCCK!!! 00:41 mark. man can't wait to see what the rest of the album has to offer.. anyone else from Dallas going?!?!?!

  • @aznguitar I AM!!! 7th row from the stage, on petruccis side! its gonna be freakin sick

  • to bude jebooooot!!! :)

  • myung should write more often !

  • I really like The count of tuscany melody, but I will love this melody is awsome.. I hope all the song too! :-D

  • this was the best minute of my life.... i like MP and Mangini, but really, the SOUND quality of portnoy's drums is better than mangini's :)

  • SO ENERGY!!

    POWAH!!

  • @RockRulez124 SO HEAVY!! YAAH!!

  • @Skwigelf100 SO HEAVY SOUND!!!!

  • @RockRulez124 HAHA! Best comment I've ever read under a DT video! From a true DT fan to true DT fans!

  • @RockRulez124 So heavy sound!

    Yeah!

  • Watch the A Dramatic Turn Of Events track by track interview and you'll see this song has a predecessor which is Far From Heaven, it mentioned in the interview that it has the same structure as both Wait For Sleep and Learning To Live, after the similar song structure of Pull Me Under for On The Backs Of Angels it seems Dream Theater have gone back to Imagaes And Words, as for this whole album kind of Octavarium like after hearing about the album

  • G-H-E-Y

  • The Best snippet so far!

  • oh man this sounds soooooooooo gooooooooooood..........

  • GO GO MYUNG!!

  • deffinetly the best i have heard of the new ones...finally a little bit of real DT...

  • This is amazing! Dream Theater is finally back to their roots. Writing positive uplifting songs that make you want to take on the world! Myung thank God you are writing again. Dream Theater forever!

  • I have an Image that I can't put in Words....

  • @mortalfear143 Maybe you're not quite Awake enough...haven't the Seasons Changed? That'll usually cause about Six Degrees of Inner Turbulence to the brain. Although, THAT problem is usually solved When Dream and Day Unite. Remember, when you're having difficulty thinking, you must face some Black Clouds to find the Silver Lining!

  • @TheAscensionOfficial Hm... that Train of Thought leads me to think that what might first seem like Chaos, after a while can be quite Systematic. And if I remember the Scenes from my Memory correctly, if you ever see a brilliant white light above you, you should start worrying about Falling Into Infinity.

  • Sounds more like Six Degrees of Inner Turbulence if you ask me. Album should rule, though.

  • @metalman666ization What are you talking about? SDoIT was one of their best albums if you ask me!

  • @Sadell To me this is more type of songs like Learning To Live, Sacrificed Sons and The Ministry Of Lost Souls

  • @Sadell my bad lol. I didn't mean to say it like that. i meant to say the album has a Six Degrees of Inner Turbulence atmosphere to it. And it is one of best albums (after Images and Words, Awake, and Scenes from a Memory)

  • I'm still not sure. I didn't think much of 'On The Backs of Angels' and these samples are not amazing me. I'll reserve my judgement until I hear the album however. Surprised how many positive comments these are getting. They're not that good. And I'm a fan

  • @BinaryPill

Apparently, not everybody agree with you.

  • @BinaryPill The same way you're surprised that you don't care for these, I'm surprised that I like them so much. SC and BC&SL really had me thinking that, despite a good song here or there, that Dream Theater were pretty much spent. Here, though... no cringe-worthy lyrics; no ridiculous attempts at 'harsh' vocals'; no ripping off Muse and Evanescence, etc. All the new material just sounds like Dream Theater - and rather fresh and inspired, at that. This snippet in particular = fantastic.

  • @CerebralArchitect I had a similar opinion first, but SC and BC&SL pretty much have kick ass songs all throughout, and even the covers are awesome. I mean, there are some weaker songs where i can understand what you mean, but Muse/Evanescence ripoff? You'll have to explain that more in detail because I have no idea what you're talking about.

  • @Sadell The ripoff comment was primarily directed at Octavarium and Systematic Chaos - Never Enough and Prophets of War are pretty much Muse through and through (I think); Forsaken is DT's take on the Evanescence sound; Constant Motion sounds uncomfortably close to Metallica... etc. BC&SL is better, but I still ultimately see it as 'A Nightmare to Remember, The Count of Tuscany, and the rest'... and the lyrics were, for the most part, awful. Opinions are opinions, though.

  • @CerebralArchitect Perhaps I am being a little harsh. Like I said though, I'll wait for the album.

  • @BinaryPill I may add, this sample is actually pretty good. This is the best I've heard out of the previews yet. It's the other samples I'm not sure about.

  • I can't get enough of this!

  • eargasm!

not sure how my brain is going to handle this without exploding into a bazillion pieces

  • 15th time I listen to this today. I fucking love the vocal part.

  • This gave me shivers! old school DT

  • Some Petrucci quotes (on Breaking All Illusions):

"We specifically wanted to write a more epic piece, and when we do that, we know that we’re not bound to any sort of structure as far as verses and choruses."

"Arrangement-wise, it’s very non-traditional, so you hear a lot of breakdowns. There’s a great John Myung moment where he does an ostinatto part in the first verse."

"The song is extremely proggy, with a lot of keyboard breaks."

  • Finally, it seems like DT members remembered they were never about playing as fast as they could, but about making plainly awesome sounding music. I had pretty much given up on DT, but this looks like a step in the right direction

  • Awesome!

cant wait to hear the whole album. :)

  • I got a feeling this will be the best Dream Theater album since Six Degrees for sure! It sounds beyond outstanding by all these little nibblets fed to us.

  • I love the song and I am very proud of the covering by this video later, because this is a fact that DREAM THEATER becomes more and more popular!!! :)

  • i'm a diehard DT fan, but thisrecord shifts their sounds more from prog metal to prog rock. this son, OTBOA and Bridges In The Sky all sound very influenced by Genesis, Yes, and Rush. I mean, the muted flute over guitar? I think when Mike left he took the metal with him...

  • @DrumBum561 Good! I've longed for another Images & Words!

  • @DrumBum561 good :P

  • @DrumBum561 You've most likely not listened to Images and Words? :p

  • @idostuff147 of course I have; but since Awake DT has always been a good mix of metal and rock. even with Octavarium they had a perfect mix. this whole album is more rock than metal. and I'm kinda disappointed.

  • @DrumBum561

You're basing the whole album off of three songs?

  • @r0xorsboxers i've heard all the rest of the songs. on Pirate Bay there is a guy who uploaded 90 seconds of each track. it's very rock
