Russia did play the biggest part in stopping germany. Russia didnt fight Germany for the good for the world though, but purely for survival. If Germany didnt attack Russia then Russia would still be buddies with Germany and likely joined in the fight later. Germany backstabbing Russia resulted in Russia having no choice but to sacrifice so much which worked out well for the west.

@prostockgear Stalin's purges of his top army commanders weakened his army to breaking point. He was too busy killing off any competitors within Russia to worry about spreading communism. Stalin did like the idea of grabbing half of poland for free as part of a pact with Germany so he liked the initial gains and that germany and the allies fought. He knew about Mein Kampf, but still saw them working together. The day before Barbarossa started Russia were still sending raw materials to Germany.
