  • Youtube assholes click dislike to get attention and take away from this masterpiece. I post it to facebook once a week.

  • The earlier performances are the best ones. Michael or Eddie I love them both. Tjam*

  • @ItaiMiller if you lived in Cleveland in the 70's you where always around your radio at this time just kicking back and burning one just for this song.

  • I saw 196 "likes" & 1 "dislike"....WHO IS THIS ONE IDIOT IN THE GALAXY!!!????

  • seems to be that the maggots got to one poor soul's brain...

  • 0:00-6:39 brain was swollen from music assault, 6:40-7:34 every hole on head blood began to gush out; 7:35-8:03 brain matter replaced flowing blood; 8:04-8:28 spine shattered....this song fucked me up!

  • If this masterpeice does not touch your soul or bring a tear to your eyes, your only listening and not feeling it.

  • This is the best fucking stoner jam in the history of the msic biz!

  • Chills CHills CHILLS !! UP AND DOWN Mi spine ! Fly on Jimi

  • This is the greatest version of this timeless classic. Basically, the guitar doesn't get much better than this.

What I wouldn't give to see Hampton and Clapton jamming to this...!

  • FUCK YOU !!! WHO IS THAT GAY , WHO DISLIKE THIS MASTERPIECE !?

  • I heard that sososostoned....LOL I have an incomplete version on here. Gotta get more memory for my camera and loop it better. I guess it wasn't bad for a first time but i kept playing cause i didn't know it had stopped recording so its not that much. Next time gonna practice some before i record it.

  • Super!!! Thanks for sharing.

    Grandma mary

  • Shit brings tears to my eyes, yet I can't stop listening. I don't know if this is what music is supposed to do to you, but I don't care.

  • @busaj lmao

  • that spot at 2:02 is godly. Amazing solo. I'll stick a cover up some time or another.

  • The angels weep,

    for the sins of man.

    At its peak,

    it sound like this.

  • Wow. I'm shock

  • When I play guitar, I want to sound like I'm dieing too. Awesom.

  • has anyone seen how Jesse Johson has come back, that brother is seriously raw, brings back memories of Hendrix when he jams live

  • the best live version recorded has not shown up here on youtube yet, all i know is that it was done in ATL in the seventies and everything was done so good the sound and recording was done right i know the video is out there so i keep searching, it has been released on a greatest hits cd already

  • This nigga looks like Jesus Christ on smack and X... I fuck with this ALL DAY ALWAY

  • what kind of guitar is that?

  • It's his signiature Alembic that he used throughout the later 70's.

  • This is Eddie Hazel's signature solo. Not Mike Hampton.

  • yeah, but aside from the original studio recording, this is the best version i've found. definately the best live version in my opinion

  • I agree, RIP Eddie - BUT in all fairness this ain't a cover- Mike does a hell of a job...course " who's ur daddy ? -

  • Thanks for posting...this brings back some very fond memories :)

Before hearing this song back in the 70's, I had though that the greatest guitar solo was anything by Ace Frehely....then I heard this, and it blew my mind.

  • I am 100% sure you can get this version from the One Nation Under a Groove CD.

  • jeezus fng christ, this is awesome

  • We can buy this song in the new compilation of Radio Nova.

  • Just Incredible. Maybe the best song ever.

  • es la mamada

  • Comment removed

  • Kidd-lic certainly gives great LICKS.....with Hendrix & Hazel in his soul...Thx Kidd

  • I think I've wet my pants! This is awesome!

  • inspiring solo.....got to love it....

  • this is the best guitar solo ever. i saw this video about 4 years ago and it made me want to start playing guitar. now...after 4 years i see it again and i still think that this is the best guitar solo i've ever heard in my life

  • This along with Voodoo Child...not the fast version we all know..I mean the slow bluesy version.

  • yes indeed.

  • DrtyWrm, you are right on!! Its the day and the night, the living and the dead, all put on 6 strings, ten fingers, a big heart and a lot of soul.

  • eddie.looks.like.jesus.or.a.jedi.lol

  • Please excuse my ignorance, but originally did Eddie Hazel play Maggot Brain or did Michael Hampton or was it both with Eddie on lead? This song almost shouldnt be called a song, it is a mood all by itself. It is a daydream or maybe a nightmare, or soul or feeling but calling it a SONG doesnt embody the power conveyed in this piece. incredible!!

  • Eddie Hazel played this back in 1971, Hampton replaced him in the band in 1975.

  • oh okay I didnt know that. thanks for the info.

  • No one can make it funky like Mike or the late great Eddie Hazel!

  • The fact that he looks like a jedi makes this really cool lol, or should I say EVEN cooler.

  • man if dont listent to this shit every day.. then ur not normal.. ive been listen to this song everyday since it was put up on youtube.. all the versions... i have to, or my day wont be complete... shits godly..

  • the force is strong in kidd funkadelic. learn this song, i will.

    .

    .

    .

but it will never be this awesome. we need more of this in today's music.

  • I've been looking at this video almost every day for the past 3 months.

    Is this normal? lol

  • completely normal.

  • @Timesplitter14 haha i did it too the first 5/6 months lol

  • I always hear of Page, Beck, & Clapton.. rarely, if ever.. is there a mention of Eddy or Michael. This dam near brought me to tears...

  • stellar

  • Holy...

Hampton completely tore the place apart.

  • FUNK-ON Yall FUNK-ON...True Pioneers of the Funk, true originators of the P

  • freaking amazing song, and amazing preformance

thank you for putting this video on

  • eddie looks like jesus a lil bit in this one

  • That's not Eddy,,,That's Michael,,,Eddy did this back in 1971

  • Its the best version ive heard by anybody.

  • amazing version, no doubt about that, but shoot man, nothing compares to Hazel playing the original.

No offense to hampton, but he would drown in eddie's shit....

  • G O D.....D A M M M..what the funkadelic..

  • Go MAGGOT BRAIN!!!

  • i cant stop watching this

  • what kind of guitar is that

  • It looks like a Gibson headstock, but I can't place the model

  • It's an Alembic. Google it. They have nice but pricey guitars.

  • Thanks. I was going to post the same info until I read your reply. Folks need to understand that there are a lot of great guitars past & present that aren't Gibson or Fender.

  • Gibbson

  • Wwooooooooow..kidd funkadelic is on a whole other planet

  • THIS is not eddie..this is KIDD FUNKADELIC/MICHAEL HAMPTON The DNA of HENDRIXX..YALL CANT F U C K WITH CAT??????????

  • UNREAL!!!

  • Prophetic Cut!!Thanks Eddie!

  • thats M. Hampton playin in the video. its Eddies song tho. the only reason Michael Hampton is known for maggot brain is becuz when eddie had to leave the group, G. Clinton needed a new lead guitar and M. Hampton got hired on the spot becuz he played the original maggot brain note for note.

  • Is Eddie H. or Michael H. playin' the guitar?

And who compose and make this solo? Eddi or Michale?

  • eddie kinda looks like jesus in this video

  • for you young folks that don't know, this is the classic version that made the band...

if you really want to know how the funk works,

listen ye first biological speculation, america eats its young, then maggot brain and then you will understand what it's really all about...Selah!

  • Kinda some heavy funk to suggest to a newbie..I think S"tanding On The Verge of Getting It On" or "One Nation Under A Groove" would be a better choice and then get deeper!

Friend of mine let a female newbie borrow Electric Spanking of War Babies...needless to say she returned it the next day saying, "WTF was that??!!"

  • for you young folks that don't know, this is the classic version that made the band...

if you really want to know how the funk works,

listen ye first biological speculation, america eats its young, then maggot brain and then you will understand what it's really all about...Selah!

  • LORD HAVE MERCY!

  • dear lord....

  • video degrading/ resumit, soon/hurry

  • it's digital. what r u talking about?

  • I know this is the guitar show, but Bernie is sounding pretty futuristic here...

  • fuck all who like hamptons version more than hazels!!!!

  • you can't mess with realness of this solo. You can't doubt the emotion he put into this. You can practice and regurgitate what you hear, but you can just feel the soul in this song. I love it because of how beautiful it is, not necessarily because of how complicated it is.

  • Maybe my favorite solo ever, if it weren't for Comfortably Numb.

  • This is a guitar song hence lots of players can and have torn it up. this is a spotlight solo epic......but I have to say Hampton's tone doesn't blow me away, eddie hazel's did.....at any rate it's gold. one of rocks truely great guitar work-outs.

  • actually its referring to eddie hazel's maggot riddled brain from the copious amounts of drugs he did...george's brother doesn't have anything to do with this song...george told eddie to play like he just found out his mom died, then half way through this amazing solo he told him that his mother was in fact alive...the song tells the story, you can hear it. listen to the one i posted, it has eddie and hampton in it.

  • I will next thanks:)

  • mike wassup, from casper, holler at ya later. brutha casper from minn, bobbie mcduffie saids whats up

  • George told him to play like his momma just died.

  • yea its also a tribute to georges brother they walked in his apartment and saw him dead on the floor where he had been lying for 2 weeks hence the title

  • How old was Mike in this Clip?

  • I admit I don't know much about P-Funk. This is actually my first time to actually hear any. I'm

blown away. The guitar is beautiful, soulful just

AMAZING. Listen to that groove take you to another place.

  • I wonder how Jimi Hendrix would have played that.

  • fuck.... im speachless right now, that is by far one of the most....beautiful, straight from the soul things ive ever heard in my life! sounds good cause he is improvising on an E Penatonic

  • no, he´s improvising using the E minor aeolian scale and some pentatonic things...

  • P-Funk got to have the best guitarists ever. They will give any rock group a run for their money. WHO SAID A FUNK BAND CAN'T ROCK????

  • KILLER!!!!

  • so freaking soulful dude

  • I dont know what to say...Jesus, its, its, I dont know what it is but it's one of the best 9 minutes I've ever had

  • Play like your momma just died. Sheer Genius.

  • the part from 8.03 just hits you

    fuck

  • This is the version off the 7" that was included with the Uncle jam's army LP, for me the best version, it's SPIRITUAL SPOOKY!!!

  • some idiot whistled at 4:32, what a dilho

  • hahahaha you do know that the "idiot" who whistled wasz George Clinton, right? Listen to all their live stuff; Clinton used a series of whistles he would use for their live shows to direct the musicians through songs, like by telling them when to improvise or wrap things up

  • Yea, his name is George Clinton. You must not know much about Funkadelic

  • I know of PF and maggot brain. But this version with michael hampton is just off the scale. Im looking for this specific version with M hampton. If you can sort me out thanks!

    <<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<SPADGE>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

Cheers spadge and thanks. Sorry for the caps fella ;)

  • 4:10 always gives me chills.

  • soul orgasm!!!

    games dames and guitar thangs

    it's fuckin awesome

also get maggot brian by funkadellic...

    this is lovely

    tiny/salford

  • WHERE CAN I BUY THIS. sorry for caps, but i want this on dvd or even CD. amazing.

  • The Live version of Maggot Brain is on the 1978 album, "One Nation Under A Groove" by Funkadelic. The Studio version is on the 1971 album, "Maggot Brain"

  • One of the best songs ever.

  • Michael Hampton has not got the credit he deserved over the years with pfunk. George would call him out during many of the live shows to do a lead solo. Be it Maggot Brain, Cosmic Slop, Dr. Funkenstien, Bop Gun, Red Hot Mama, Comin Around the Mountain and many others, Mike was up for the challenge. He was also an excellent rythm guitar player holding down the rythm during most of the live shows.

  • Ya he is a really good guitarist, its just he plays way tooo technically. Thats one thing that Eddie had over Mike, Eddie played from his soul. Every note he played had emotion.

  • I however, have always preferred Michael Hampton over Eddie. Just my preference.

  • I could see that, but nothing beats the original :)

  • free your mind, and your ass will follow.

  • one of the best versions of maggot brain i've ever heard

  • My mind has just been freed.

  • The BEST !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Hell yes! Maggot Brain!

  • i say out of all the concerts ive seen these guys in this is the best
