If that civic type R was the early 97 edition that is alot lighter, it would have been a better race. The 97 edition does 0-60mph in 5.7secs as standard. ( and out of a 1.6 that amazes me!! )

Both of these cars are JDM spec - just for information purposes. a UKDM spec only has 187 bhp as standard so you would be evenly matched by the JDM civic in this video which has 185 bhp and weighs a lot less! The JDM 96 Teg in this clip has 197bhp as standard - i own one and adore it - best car ever!!

ITRs are supposed to be a little faster due to more torque although the horse power of both cars is almost the same. But accordingly, i read that the b16 has the most "vtec kick" of honda's entire engine range.

The Corvettes can handle its own on the track. I'm not a huge domestic fan, but the vettes are definitely fast around the track. American engineers like pushrods, and are firm believers in displacement = power.

The domestic vs. imports is a pretty weak argument, you're comparing apples and oranges. Just look at the cars from the domestic market, and the import market. That alone shows you the roots and base of what the cars were built from.
