  • Coolant and oil mixing in the crankcase and oiling system isn't terminal. Drain the crankcase, replace the faulty seal and refill with new oil. However, coolant in the oil shouldn't necessarily cause smoking when the engine is running and, this is just an abstract guess, you may have a faulty head gasket which would cause coolant in the oil and smoking or "steaming" when the coolant is vaporized in the combustion chamber/s. Inspect each head and pull the one showing signs of coolant or oil leak.

  • you really seem like a very educated person about engines. and i have a problem, i really hope you can help. would you know what to do if there is coolant in the oil. What happened was i replaced my timing chain cam magnet, sensor, etc. and when i was putting the cover back on it didnt seal right the sealant got smooshed and leaked from inlet i'm guessing to the oil pan. So now its been sitting for over a month, and when i ran the car first it smoked like it needed oil but then i turned it off

  • 4.3L Vortec is the new go-power small engine.

  • thanks for the help
