Well I had the sole survivor military background so I don't know about the others, but I know the Colonist Origin choice had a quest to talk a woman who had been taken by the slavers and convince her not to shoot herself, and give her a sedative. Really gave some nice backstory.

how would that make it more original? with the multiple decisions in the game and the combination of them, that alone would provide an endless number of combinations of choices, any of which would make an original story, due to this fact

There are choices which give you maximum gameplay, like if you took Earthborn and Sole Survivor in ME1 you got 2 additional quests while any other background didn't give shit. Those two traits were in the default Shepard package, just like anything in the default package for ME2 will give you maximum gameplay.

@goldragon988: That's not actually true at all. Every single origin (spacer, colonist, Earthborn) has one (1) mission exclusive to it. None give you more gameplay than the rest. Meanwhile, every background choice (war hero, sole survivor, ruthless) simply gives additional "flavor" to one already-existing mission (the Major Kyle mission, the Corporal Toombs mission, and the defusing a bomb mission).

This is absurdly incorrect. All three background choices have their own unique sidequests associated with them, and all three psych profile (War Hero, Sole Survivor, Ruthless) traits have changes to the way some quests play out and how some characters (Such as Conrad Verner) speak to you.
