  • If your volume isn't full....you're doing it wrong.

  • I am 40 and I love Hip Hop & House music. However this L.P is one of the greatest pieces of music and this track brings loads off the best bit s of the L.P together to devastating effect.True BRILLIANCE

  • consider yourselves lucky to have experienced this band, i don't think such a group will ever come together again

  • So sad, Jimmy only wanted to be loved.

  • @bluedoryification He wanted to know who he was

  • I agree. A true masterpiece written by Pete, and performed by THE WHO! FANTASTIC!

  • I think this is one of the best songs Pete Townshend ever wrote, I literally cannot fault it. If you wonder what perfection sounds like, look no further.

  • If ever anyone doubted that Keith Moon is one of the best drummers ever listen to the drumming on this track and be blown away by his sheer fucking magnificence...........

  • @juan13579run THIS IS WHAT I KEEP SAYING. :D :D :D :D

    Brilliant through and through.

  • By far, the best Who instrumental ever recorded. Everything, drums, guitar, bass, synths, are perfectly sequenced rhythmically and harmonically. Pete's guitar screams emotion with Keith's best drumming EVER!! Drum roll beginning at around 5:45. Not to mention Entwhistle's bass lines and french horn. Beautiful...simply beautiful. Thanks!

  • @Musicbuff2u Thunderfingers!!!! nothing more needs to be said.

Entwhistle a gifted soul for sure!!!!

  • Q.how can one man produce a sound on the drums like this?? Q.how can one band produce an unbeliable song like this??

  • my fav album & fav song of all time.

its like there exspresing themselves thro there instruments & the instruments understand each other.wish i could put it into words, but if i could it wouldnt be the greatest peice of all time

  • It's so hard to find this song, but it's literally my favorite song.

  • Keith. Fucking. Moon.

  • I heard this album for the first time about six months ago and I have yet to get to a point where I can listen to music without listening to this entire album start to finish. I especially love this song because it shows just how much of a freaking genius Townshend is. It's amazing how he can basically create a person out of music. You have all the themes of this mixed up teenager, but when they're all put together at the end, it's still a uniform piece of music and not a jumbled mess. Amazing.

  • QUADROPHENIA = MASTERPIECE

Individually the songs are powerful, gut wrenching, beautiful, angry, tender, and always emotional....As a whole, QUADROPHENIA is a beautiful insight into a time, a culture, an era and a rebellious teenage life. It's all illustrated through an incredibly powerful, raw and viscerally emotional musical journey.

    It's friggin awesome.

  • Awesome album! Best listened to from start to finish without interuption! :-)

  • To me QUADROPHENIA isn't just the best of The Who albuns. QUADROPHENIA IS THE ALBUM. It's The Best album of all times in history of music. I thought that 38 years ago and I still do.

i feel all my spirit in it.

    Q U A D R O P H E N I A.

  • I honestly don't care what other people think... This is the most complex, most beautiful piece of music Pete Townshend has ever written and will ever write. The end is just fucking unbelievable.

  • 1 person was smoking the rock

  • omg... great...(*speechless*)

  • 1 person wasn't on the rock. -.-

  • @xDJCRUZZZx yeah, TrurthAxe poor kid. Obviously not his fault.

  • @TruthAxe Amuse? ...amuse? You keep saying that.

Seriously YOU do need help. Unless you're being a dickhead and trying to be controversial deliberately then yeah...visit the white jackets, if not then get a life and stop wasting it.

  • mods are just so fuckin cool, still are, "we are mods" 78 till now still and always mod

  • @TruthAxe Are you mentally challenged? You wouldn't know excellent composing if it kicked you in the balls. This song is truly brilliant and shows just how mind-blowing of a composer Townshend was in his prime. Pop songwriter my ass!

  • @TruthAxe Keith Moon makes this song bombastic.

  • has like the best guitar solo ever ha

  • There's a reason why nobody has pressed the dislike button ;)

  • PURE AWESOMENESS MAN, THANKS FOR BRINGING ME THOSE MEMORIES OF THE SEA AND MY BOTTLE OF WHISKEY. I ALMOST CRY REMEMBERING BECAUSE I WAS REALLY HAPPY BACK THEN NOWADYAS ALL IS IN DECADENCE.

  • Quadrophenia is one of those albums where you start listening to it, and you get so taken over by it, and it's over before you know it. Just an amazing piece of music. Dark Side of the Moon is also one of those as well, except Quadrophenia is much longer. Good company to be in.

  • this is the cream of concept albums...the whos finest hour ahead of whos next...to continue..a film emerged from this..5/5 and to think it didnt hit number one in the us

  • This video is absolutely fantastic. This song has got to be my favorite rock instrumental song of all-time. Probably also my favorite drum performance ever from the best, Keith Moon. A classic.

  • I always wish that Pete's solo would last for another hour or so.

  • In my opinion (40 years as a rock/heavy-metal fan), this song is the deepest moment in rock history.

  • @Computojon COULD NOT AGREE MORE!

  • @Computojon; Ten Years Gone. It just feels. It just fucking feels. Jimmy Page was feeling something when he wrote that song... Robert Plants lyrics were added on later. But the guitar is so fucking... It's amazing.

  • i hear you,,, 100 monkeys and 100 plus listenings couldn',nt hold a vespa mirror to this acheivement.

  • No one could drum like Keith !! he was the first and only drummer

to hold and carry an entire songs melody in his Drumming. thats Insane!!

  • Pete is one of the greatest guitarrists ever. Love this!

  • The greatest Rock N roll album ever period!

  • Best album by anyone ever by a country fucking mile.

    Top drawer.

  • Exhibit A: Keith Moon is Rock's greatest Drummer

  • pure musical orgasm

  • quadrophenia is the greatest work the who ever put out

  • I watched Quadrophenia the other night on ITV, the first time since I saw it at the cinema in 1979.

I forgot what a brilliant film it was and how true it was to the album.

  • Sussed Pawless

  • just flawless

  • legends fuckin legends, sorry america but britain was born for rock

  • @simpson2221 they sure were but what country you think influenced them? America thank you very much!

  • @simpson2221 I wonder how Chuck Berry fits into all this, MAJOR influence

  • 2:48

  • thanks for posting this masterpiece, you're the best

  • A masterpiece !. For X-mas I gave my nephew (1) "Live at Leeds" cd (2) "Who`s Next" cd (3) Who`s Next" dvd. For his 21st birthday 3 days ago I gave him (1) "Quadrophenia" cd (2) Quadrophenia t-shirt. Passing great music on that sounds just as good today as it did when I was my nephew`s age.

  • Good to hear that you're passing the torch on to subsequent generations.

Great music deserves to live on.

  • As the old Icelandic verse from Hávamál (on of the old Edda poem goes: Deyr fé deyja frændur deyr sjálfur hið sama en orðstír deyr aldrei hveim er sér góðan getur Roughly translated as: Dies stock, dies kin dies one self the same but the reputation never dies of he who has made a good one
  • dont lie alas your mum gave you a who Tshirt

  • @alaskanjay54 NEVERMIND MY TRUCK, LIVE AT LEEDS WAS THE BEST GIFT I HAD EVER RECEIVED. I AM IN MUSIC TODAY BECAUSE OF IT. IT ONLY OPENED THE DOORS TO EVERYTHING ELSE! PETE'S SOUND IS WHAT DID IT FOR ME. THEN SPANNING OFF TO KEITH, JOHN, AND ROGER TO MAKE ME COMPLETELY ENGULFED IN THEIR SOUND AND ON STAGE ATTITUDE!

  • @alaskanjay54 Would you be my uncle ? :)

  • The Rock is the philosophers stone of rock.

  • who was always and still is my favorite band....keith moon and john entwhistle rest in peace.......the who sound is simply fantastic

  • great movie great tune

  • This song is wonderful in its entirety, but the ending part, with both themes together gives me shivers.

  • @fabriciozu

    Listen carefully.

All four themes are woven together in that one segment!!

  • This song gives me goosebumps. A masterpiece.

  • i agree!

  • great post thanx!.........what an arrangment

  • great song , i;ve loved the who for a really long time , there songs were some of my favorist , although i nerver got the whole budda thing.........

  • Amazing drummer!!!

    Woao!!!

  • After watching a ton of these earlier Who videos, it's clear to me what a genious each bandmate was- Daltrey for understanding the connection between Pete, composer & performer, John, reinventing the bass, and especially, the unequalled irreplaceable amazing drummer, Keith Moon.

  • It's also Pete Townshend's theme.

  • KIETH!

  • Listen closely for some rare(?) foot-high hat use by Keith in the short solo toward the beginning last section. Think I might have first heard it using headphones.

  • well spotted :D. I heard it with headphones.

  • @MrGb1965 I hear it! Thanks for pointing that out. All the times I've listened to this and I never heard that.

  • From '71(Who's next) onwards it was used & Yes that's the orange beast! In 70 Joe Walsh gave Pete a '59 Gretsch 6120 Chet Atkins along with a Fender 3 x 10 Bandmaster & an Edwards pedal steel volume pedal. He used this combination on Who's Next & Quadrophenia & all subsequent Who & solo albums.Pete claimed that it wouldn't stay in tune on stage. So that meaty power chord sound came from a hollow body with FilterTrons:)

  • Yes for live work. Those oh so meaty tones on most of the classic who tracks we all love so much came from the Gretch that Joe Walsh gave him!

  • I'm pretty sure that sound at 5:55 is a Jew's Harp, but I could be wrong.

  • absolutly perfect video-cut!

  • That complicated listens to the battery!... Pete was saying to Moon as he had to touch or was leaving it to Keith's inspiration?

  • Now that rocked!

  • From 5:55 to the end of the song, it sounds like a voice run is through a vocoder or something similar. Anyone else notice that, or know what the voice is saying?

  • yea, I have always wondered what that was lol. I think it might be guitar if that's even possible lol. Whatever it is it sounds awesome :D.

  • right at 2:48 is one of my favorite points in all of music. it's incredible how melodic pete is, but the tone is completely clean and simple. if anyone else would have tried that it have sounded like shit

  • Anyone have any idea which synth Pete's using for the opening notes of this? Undoubtedly an ARP but *which one?*

  • Red, thanks for posting this. Makes me want to go out and get a GS.

  • this is totally inspiring material.and oh yes i don t use the word lightly but i think townshend is a genius.also thanx for the added info.

  • beginning at 2:00 minute mark that is an awsome drum roll keith moon does, he was the total shit in his day.

  • I love keith Moon's drumming!!!!! I

  • My God!!!! This is fantastic!!! Genius!!!

  • This whole song just blows my mind!!! Keith Moon's drumming is phenomenal!!! One just can't miss his influence on that song!! The drumming is fantastic!!! The lead into "Love Rain On Me" is classic! It is and ever shall be, an opera as Pete Townsend intended it to be!!!

  • i growd up with this thank you pete

  • Best song on what is a magnificent album. Anyone who has not heard it should and listen to it a lot to appreciate it. The best ever...

  • Quadrophenia has always been my favorite Who album. They're all amazing, but there's just something about Quadrophenia that just always blows my mind.

  • I saw these guys last year in Brighton. They didn't play this song, but they kicked major ass!

  • Fucking Brilliant !

  • Magnificent!!!

  • 4:03 never ceases to blow my mind

  • bloody love this song! A masterpiece!

  • The film is great, phil daniels was the perfect part for jimmy.

  • My favorite Who-album. Bloody masterpiece, both the song and the album. Haven't seen the film yet but I'm sure going to. :)

Long live rock and The Who!

  • Diggin the Video Bigtime. really fits the song. thanks

  • Absolutely brillant.

  • Nice one !

  • best song on the album

    best who instrumental

  • Probably the best song ever written by Pete Townshend. Townshend is simply a genius!

  • This is my fav bit on the LP... I lost the second CD, so now I'm fucked for Brighton!

  • masterpiece...

  • Does it get any better then this?! I'd like to hear it!!

  • this song is a masterpiece. period.

  • Can't wait to see them in Los Angeles in November!

  • It is easy to be prejudice towards one's favorite band but to this day I don't understand why more people don't know more of the music and the full metal jacket R&R provenance of The Who. Their list of achievments speaks for itself just so many peeps don't know how to read. The Who are too rich and complicated for just listening..if that makes sense to anyone reading.

  • Their body of work says it all. Pete Townshend is the Amadeus of My Generation. Never content to just compose operas and anthems... he was a total athletic-artistic-comical-inspirational maximum R&B showman... in every single show! For me, the only one who compares in _all_ regards is The Edge. Long live Quadrophenia, and Long Live Rock.

  • Pete Townshend is a musical genius.

  • 5 STARS!

  • So cool thats what a mod is all about brill Andy Fhchaps
