I am 40 and I love Hip Hop & House music. However this L.P is one of the greatest pieces of music and this track brings loads off the best bit s of the L.P together to devastating effect.True BRILLIANCE
I think this is one of the best songs Pete Townshend ever wrote, I literally cannot fault it. If you wonder what perfection sounds like, look no further.
If ever anyone doubted that Keith Moon is one of the best drummers ever listen to the drumming on this track and be blown away by his sheer fucking magnificence...........
By far, the best Who instrumental ever recorded. Everything, drums, guitar, bass, synths, are perfectly sequenced rhythmically and harmonically. Pete's guitar screams emotion with Keith's best drumming EVER!! Drum roll beginning at around 5:45. Not to mention Entwhistle's bass lines and french horn. Beautiful...simply beautiful. Thanks!
questo brano deli Who dopo quasi 40 anni che lo ascolto mi fà venire ancora i brividi - Townshend ha scritto una musica per me eterna - questa è leggenda del rock -
its like there exspresing themselves thro there instruments & the instruments understand each other.wish i could put it into words, but if i could it wouldnt be the greatest peice of all time
I heard this album for the first time about six months ago and I have yet to get to a point where I can listen to music without listening to this entire album start to finish. I especially love this song because it shows just how much of a freaking genius Townshend is. It's amazing how he can basically create a person out of music. You have all the themes of this mixed up teenager, but when they're all put together at the end, it's still a uniform piece of music and not a jumbled mess. Amazing.
Individually the songs are powerful, gut wrenching, beautiful, angry, tender, and always emotional....As a whole, QUADROPHENIA is a beautiful insight into a time, a culture, an era and a rebellious teenage life. It's all illustrated through an incredibly powerful, raw and viscerally emotional musical journey.
To me QUADROPHENIA isn't just the best of The Who albuns. QUADROPHENIA IS THE ALBUM. It's The Best album of all times in history of music. I thought that 38 years ago and I still do.
I honestly don't care what other people think... This is the most complex, most beautiful piece of music Pete Townshend has ever written and will ever write. The end is just fucking unbelievable.
Seriously YOU do need help. Unless you're being a dickhead and trying to be controversial deliberately then yeah...visit the white jackets, if not then get a life and stop wasting it.
quadrophenia the album that changed my life at 14 never been the same, thing was i GOT this! mods teenage life, all of it next album i bought was in the city by the jam god it was great to be young in the late 70s and weller became the man for my generation great days
@TruthAxe Are you mentally challenged? You wouldn't know excellent composing if it kicked you in the balls. This song is truly brilliant and shows just how mind-blowing of a composer Townshend was in his prime. Pop songwriter my ass!
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Keith Moon ruins what could have been a decent song with his bombastic overplaying.
The synth work comes across as shoddy, perhaps because of the state of the gear at the time. Real violinists would have been all the better.
This expository intends to showcase the various motifs to be heard throughout the recordings. The effort comes across as amateur, revealing the skills of an ordinary pop songwriter who fancied himself as a composer.
PURE AWESOMENESS MAN, THANKS FOR BRINGING ME THOSE MEMORIES OF THE SEA AND MY BOTTLE OF WHISKEY. I ALMOST CRY REMEMBERING BECAUSE I WAS REALLY HAPPY BACK THEN NOWADYAS ALL IS IN DECADENCE.
Quadrophenia is one of those albums where you start listening to it, and you get so taken over by it, and it's over before you know it. Just an amazing piece of music. Dark Side of the Moon is also one of those as well, except Quadrophenia is much longer. Good company to be in.
this is the cream of concept albums...the whos finest hour ahead of whos next...to continue..a film emerged from this..5/5 and to think it didnt hit number one in the us
This video is absolutely fantastic. This song has got to be my favorite rock instrumental song of all-time. Probably also my favorite drum performance ever from the best, Keith Moon. A classic.
@Computojon; Ten Years Gone. It just feels. It just fucking feels. Jimmy Page was feeling something when he wrote that song... Robert Plants lyrics were added on later. But the guitar is so fucking... It's amazing.
A masterpiece !. For X-mas I gave my nephew (1) "Live at Leeds" cd (2) "Who`s Next" cd (3) Who`s Next" dvd. For his 21st birthday 3 days ago I gave him (1) "Quadrophenia" cd (2) Quadrophenia t-shirt. Passing great music on that sounds just as good today as it did when I was my nephew`s age.
As the old Icelandic verse from Hávamál (on of the old Edda poem goes: Deyr fé deyja frændur deyr sjálfur hið sama en orðstír deyr aldrei hveim er sér góðan getur Roughly translated as: Dies stock, dies kin dies one self the same but the reputation never dies of he who has made a good one
@alaskanjay54 NEVERMIND MY TRUCK, LIVE AT LEEDS WAS THE BEST GIFT I HAD EVER RECEIVED. I AM IN MUSIC TODAY BECAUSE OF IT. IT ONLY OPENED THE DOORS TO EVERYTHING ELSE! PETE'S SOUND IS WHAT DID IT FOR ME. THEN SPANNING OFF TO KEITH, JOHN, AND ROGER TO MAKE ME COMPLETELY ENGULFED IN THEIR SOUND AND ON STAGE ATTITUDE!
After watching a ton of these earlier Who videos, it's clear to me what a genious each bandmate was- Daltrey for understanding the connection between Pete, composer & performer, John, reinventing the bass, and especially, the unequalled irreplaceable amazing drummer, Keith Moon.
Listen closely for some rare(?) foot-high hat use by Keith in the short solo toward the beginning last section. Think I might have first heard it using headphones.
From '71(Who's next) onwards it was used & Yes that's the orange beast! In 70 Joe Walsh gave Pete a '59 Gretsch 6120 Chet Atkins along with a Fender 3 x 10 Bandmaster & an Edwards pedal steel volume pedal. He used this combination on Who's Next & Quadrophenia & all subsequent Who & solo albums.Pete claimed that it wouldn't stay in tune on stage. So that meaty power chord sound came from a hollow body with FilterTrons:)
From 5:55 to the end of the song, it sounds like a voice run is through a vocoder or something similar. Anyone else notice that, or know what the voice is saying?
right at 2:48 is one of my favorite points in all of music. it's incredible how melodic pete is, but the tone is completely clean and simple. if anyone else would have tried that it have sounded like shit
This whole song just blows my mind!!! Keith Moon's drumming is phenomenal!!! One just can't miss his influence on that song!! The drumming is fantastic!!! The lead into "Love Rain On Me" is classic! It is and ever shall be, an opera as Pete Townsend intended it to be!!!
Quadrophenia has always been my favorite Who album. They're all amazing, but there's just something about Quadrophenia that just always blows my mind.
It is easy to be prejudice towards one's favorite band but to this day I don't understand why more people don't know more of the music and the full metal jacket R&R provenance of The Who. Their list of achievments speaks for itself just so many peeps don't know how to read. The Who are too rich and complicated for just listening..if that makes sense to anyone reading.
Their body of work says it all. Pete Townshend is the Amadeus of My Generation. Never content to just compose operas and anthems... he was a total athletic-artistic-comical-inspirational maximum R&B showman... in every single show! For me, the only one who compares in _all_ regards is The Edge. Long live Quadrophenia, and Long Live Rock.
