Yes I agree with first comment, ELVIN BISHOP DID ORIGINAL but I also enjoy this version by Mr. Stewart is also so fine. He pereforms it in the spirit of the original. I can't say one is better than the other. Both versions are easy to listen to and done very well. GREAT SONG great performance by two different artists. @CrimsonChampions "Fooled Around and Fell in Love" was a single by blues guitarist Elvin Bishop. It appeared on his 1975 album "Struttin' My Stuff". Bishop felt his gravelly voice didn't do the song justice, and invited vocalist Mickey Thomas who was a background singer in his band at the time, to sing it. The song peaked at #3 on the Billboard Hot 100 singles chart in May 1976. Based on his work with Bishop, Thomas was invited to become the lead singer for Jefferson Starship.

Yes, the original recording was by Elvin Bishop. Loved this song when he did it, but Rod Stewart does a great version, as he does with any song he chooses. I think part of the reason he so successfully covers so many songs is because he has great respect for the music and the songwriter. He's one of a kind!
