@kungfuninja55 ....it's a seqeuntial tranny man....uses cog engagement instead of synchronizers. It's a manually shifted tranny but doesn't use a clutch during shifts....just to pull off from a standstill and use reverse.
The thing about Le Mans - the LMP2 cars are allergic to it for whatever reason at least in the years of this Corvette C6-R. Yeah, they weren't really quick or reliable as they are now. That must have been a P2 car.
Polyphony with Gran Turismo needs to record this and listen to it over and over. Maybe if they do they will stop trying to make an American car sound Japanesse.
@ALLRacingTV Heard! The only cars they've come close to (american) in GT5 are the Corvette Z06 and ZR1, and when I upgraded my Z06 with racing modifications.. I was dissapointed in the sound. NO V8 at all! More like a small 4 cyl. tuner. Some of their sounds needs some more work, ESPECIALLY american cars.
@isaiah213 Corvette was quite interested in the LMP "Evo" (similar to the late 90's half-GT, half-prototypes like the Porsche 911 GT1-98) that was in the talking in around 2007. They even made a wind tunnel model ready... Unfortunately other manufacturers weren't interested in those type of regulations so the idea was dropped.
@isaiah213 Door is still open with the current and future regs. I've understood the GT1/GT2 program was almost shut down during last year's financial crisis, luckily it wasn't but it's obvious that spending a lot more money on LMP program is completely out of the question for GM/Chevrolet...
@rt881389 be some ridiculous acceleration with 725hp without the restrictor plate..
normally 570hp at 5400rpm and 620 ft/lbs at 4400rpm... though a good thing they have restrictions otherwise we would see a lot more deaths on the track.
@ProjectSOR the size of the restrictors on the new one is insane, like making a runner breathe through a straw. Also, the restrictors have gotten too small, resulting in massively oversized packs
@CobraMarty 600 hp is quite powerful, and with a low weight, it might even still be slightly faster than the fastest supercars we've got today (they do weight lots more). So, compared to the LMP1s they look slow, but they're faster than you think.. then it puts things in perspective of how fast LMP1s really are. I'd be JUST fine with being a GT1 race car driver...
But without restrictors I've heard the Katech engine that sits in this C5.R could produce 800 hp even. N/A !
then you need kinsler fuel injection and a seriously big cam from katech......you might wanna invest in a MoTeC as well....and the exhausts, no cats, mufflers, long tubes, exhaust going straight out...
i think i would damn near die if i heard this coming from behind me. heard because i'd hear it first. good thing it gives you a warning before it comes and tears your ass in half again
Corvette racing for 2009 will race GT1 until and in Le Mans. All the ALMS races after it will be GT2. In 2010 I think there is going to be a slight reconstruction of the class system for ALMS so Corvette Racing is moving down to GT2 to comply with the new rules. That's what I remember reading.
did they not put that checane in there because of the porsche and mercedes GT1 flipping at high speed? I think it should be a long ass straight, it would put more wear on the engines, which would result in probably more engineering.. and some killer passing manuevers by GT1 and P1 class cars. You would see who has the real horsepower.
If the FIA and ACO realized that the bend after Tertre Rouge and the kink actually don't count for the total length of the Mulsanne (the actual straight isn't that long), they could remove the chicanes and we'd all see the true potential of the still potent 427.
The engine was built by Katech Performance for Pratt & Miller racing. If I'm not mistaken, you can still purchase the exact engine. It's only around $25k. ;D
According to Pratt & Miller (The people who engineer and develope the Corvette Racing engines) an unrestricted engine will be pushing about 850-900 horsepower :)
Guy this is the 24 Hours of Le Mans it is a endurance race. So with that being said why would he need to hit the throttle earlier its about setting a nice pace and hopefully staying out of trouble. Because of this car I became a 24 Hour Le Man fan no better sound than an American V8!!!!
the worst thing you can do is induce power-on-oversteer on cold tyres, he was probably trying to get some heat into the tyres, probably because he took a recent pitstop. if you got bigger and wider tyres, with a thick compound, it takes longer to warm them up.
The driver needs to take lessons on throttle response! You scared boy or what?Your weak on turns maybe practice more on turn response!!Great car thogh, just needs a driver that fits it!
yeah, im not sure which of the 2 vettes this is but hes on pace with the other and one of them won the race. so, yeah they definatley need to take lessons. jeez, some of the best drivers in the world i think they know what the hell theye're doin.
Yea, I agree. If he goes too fast, he might even fall out of the racing line, and 2nd it could also be during the first hours of the race where there's no need for rushing, or in the late hours where there's no need for rush if they've gained a big enough distance to the chasers
A similar comparison can be made with the more modern American iron. The street cars are okay...but the racing versions are amazing and routinely victorious (C5R, C6R, Viper GTS, etc.).
Excellent point about the disparity between American production cars and race cars. If you drive the old vintage 60's gear, the chassis dynamics of everything in street spec (except the early Shelby models) are garbage. When prepared to racing specifications (such as the Boss 302 in T/A form), it's another world altogether as they make excellent racecars.
I have to agree also...and im american. As Top Gear do mention when they review US cars they complain about the plastic dashes and such..and i say i hate it too. It makes the car look like crap. Other than our big blockers and race cars US dont have any truly outstanding RECENT cars that i would go out and drive.

Actually Pratt & Miller prepare the chassis the engine is developed / designed by Katech
I have seen a C5R motor running on 100octane without air restrictors and a much more racier camshaft running around the 720bhp mark
