Under Trotsky, the Soviet Union would have remained an agricultural society for many years at least until World War II. Trotsky would've promoted international revolution while Stalin promoted domestic nationalism. This is perhaps the biggest difference between the two. Either way, dialectical materialism juges humans as assests not "people."

Under Trotsky, the Soviet Union would have remained an agricultural society for many years at least until World War II. Trotsky would've promoted international revolution while Stalin promoted domestic nationalism. This is perhaps the biggest difference between the two. Either way, dialectical materialism juges humans as assests not "people."
My point is that either way, one would have experienced the same type of totalarism under either regime.

Only that foreign companies pay much more and offer a much higher ocupational standards to Chinese workers than any Chinese company. Under communism you got a "iron bowl of rice". Political freedom was zero. While the West continuously had been investing into education & qualification of people, the economy was crippled by the communists and with it the people. That s why the level of education and therefore of income as well is this low.

I knew someone would say this, which can t be more inaccurate. All these communist shitholes (USSR, China (30 yrs ago), East-Eur) were communist countries from the beginning. Lenin, who is regarded as the communist 'thinker', started terrorizing and killing people in the millions when he took power. Why communism always ended (or already started) as a brutal dictatorship? That's obvious. Men are NOT equal. They are equal in terms of rights, yes. But not in terms of capabilities, motivation, efforts, talents, skills, character etc. You need a brutal dictator in order to hammer the doctrine of uniformism over individuality . If you want everybody to be equal you need to abolish individual rights. You need to control individuums by power. That's what happened everywhere COMMUNISM existed.

talking in economic terms, it is also clear that communist economies must fail. This is clear in theory and spectacularly much more in practice. First top down planning by bureaucrats only can be highly inaccurate and unrealistic (see Mao's GLF), so extremely bad economic decisions are made. Secondly and more importantly, any private initiative and entrepreneurship is abolished which drives an economy. After all nobody cares about nothing. Why put efforts in sth if you don't get rewarded for it.

I don't have to theorize. In practice, the picture crystal clear. Western economies leap frogged in terms of productivity, wealth being creating (with a participation of the vast majority), innovation, technology ... you name it, while the vast majority in communist countries lived in utter poverty, but I am sure I don't have to get into detail here. You know it. Capitalism, which is a free market system that allows private property and freedom, brought economic and political freedom.

Thats quite obvious. 1) Economically: self-interest of people is a natural, healthy motive to act, which allows the individual to follow the satisfaction of his/her needs and to be productive. No, the Soviet Union collapsed because Mikhail Gorbachev was a complete idiot. The west lied to him when he had economic difficulties, promising him money and told him to give up government control of the market. When that happened, the west simply crashed the market, buying entire factories with a small fraction of the cost. When the Union bought them back, they've lost so much money and was everything unrecoverable especially after it broke up.

Mixing socialism with capitalism is stupid, however there is also a significant difference between communism and socialism. Communism does not equal oppression or commanded economy, while socialism might.

The secret police existed under Lenin too. The Ukrainian famine was hardly an act of genocide, it occurred because the kulaks resisted collectivisation. Come on, 20-30 million people murdered? Have you been reading Pipes or Conquest? The Gulags held at max 2.5 million people and they were work camps not death camps. James Connolly was great, but he was never in charge of a state, so the comparison doesn't stand.
