  • Synthesizers are LIKE paint on a painter Palette, wHICH EACH ONE is very different aproaching sounds and noises.... cant compare because are unique .. each one.

  • if u compare ROLAND D50 or other d series IS NOT fair cause DX YAMAHAS, had FM technology to make raw sounds, NOT SAMPLE OR PCM, OR WAVETABLE, just pure FM Synthesys,, SO this is one of the must incredible complex Yet faboulos synthes adn remember there is a DX9 AND DX5 which are now tooo expensive cuase of history and engine,,,, BUT you can use FM 7 from NI which are best TO ALL.!!

  • dx7 II IS DOUBLE Sound engine, more lush sound than original DX7 and has stereo output real stereo sound, and more operators about 32.... well I have now NI FM 7 which is like DX7 II but Thousands time better!!!! and it only takes 5 megs !!!! I had many vintage keys ... love them all ... by the way!

  • wo hast du das geile ding gekauft

    will auch haben

  • I love your vids but I hate the DX7 and always have. It was on every terrible crappy song in the 80s and perpetrated many a crime against good music. It ruined the instrument for life with me.

  • Great 'synthetic' sounds - remainds me 'Ninja' game Commodere 64 themes :p

  • Michael Douglass...in...Black Rain

  • this is awesome.

  • @igig170666 number one the D50 isnt a pure synth its using samples to back up its synth engine. Number 2 the D50 is ace for pretty etheral pads but it cant touch the DX7 MK2 for ****BASS****. Or futuristic sounds with real weight and presence. I will direct you to my track TIME--TRAVELLER in the next month. And you will understand what I am talking about even if you wont admit it. Roland devotees never do.

  • What is the piece of music u play from 2.59? :)

  • when it came out it was 1700 DOLLARS vs the Roland D50 its sounds like shit!

  • so good to hear something other than the EP sounds.

  • The DX7 S--IID and IIFD use 16 bit dac. Whereas the MK 1 uses 12 bit dac. For certain sounds like in your face clavinets and slap bass that have a more raw sound the MK1 comes out on top. For big sounding etheral pads and great STRINGS. The second generation nailed it. There isnt a greater pure synth than the DX7. Today you are hearing hybrid synths that rely on sampling.

The DX7 produces all its sounds straight from the fm sound engine. Thats what makes it numero uno for me.

  • @apersonnamedethan, I have a DX7S and will be uploading a track called Time traveller in the next two weeks made with sounds from it. If you like any of the sounds in my demo I will gladly send you the patch data.

  • @fender1000100 Cool thanks!

  • I have a dx7ii and i wish so much that i could find these patches somewhere

  • This is definitely a PAD synth for me. Can't get any smoother, silkier then this imo.

  • My very first synthesizer was a 1988 DX7S

  • This is how I call compare a DX7 to a say a JUPITER 8. Its like comparing a Fender stratocaster to a Gibson Les Paul.

But let me tell you the secret of a fat sound having owned a DX7s for nealry 20 years. (((((UNISON DETUNE)))))) Yes play with that on the DX7 then add chorus as the JUPITER 8 DOES. Then tell me A, theres any difference between the two.

And B, more importantly the DX7 cant do great string and pad sounds. IT CAN. THICK AS PEA SOUP. The DX7 is the greatest synth of alltime period.

  • That sound at 4.30 is one of the most awesome sounds Ive ever heard come out of a synth. Just when people think they know what the DX7 can do is surprises you again.

  • Fantastic instrument, in fact this demo makes me want to buy one.

  • Dayum! That sounds just like the SEGA Genesis' sound chip's finest sounds!

You can totally tell they used a Yamaha chip...

Is the keyboard chip a YM2612?

  • @SpiralPegasus

Not at all. The synthesis chip is a YM21280 (OPS) and there is a separate envelope generator (YM21290 EGS). It is a six-operator synth unlike the YM2612 which is only 4-op, but multitimbral.

  • @douro20 I just said that it sounds LIKE it, not that it was the exact same thing...

To me it sounds similar, that's all.

  • Can i have the name of these patches...?

  • Cool Marko! I just bought a DX7 for 40€. Works fine...how is that for a bargain? I'm happy today :o)

  • Love FM!

  • klingt unfassbar gut.

  • Woho i thought i heard A Warm Place by NIN playing just now. Thing looks wicked.

  • sounds awsome, nearest i will ever get to this is Fm7 lol

  • Amazing video!!! The sounds are incredible!!! Is there a patch library for these sounds somewhere? Would love to have these sounds on my DX7

  • im gonna have to get one ! instant Jhammer&Tdream sounds

  • I have a DX7 II FD which i bought in 1988... still luv it... the sounds are still appropriate and the keyboard action is so fast...... not even attempted to programme it... thats for magicians, wizards amd alchemists..... there are loads of sounds on the web you can down load... also have 2 TX802 modules which thicken out the sounds....

  • What is the piece of music u play at 4.35?

  • Very nice tonal synth voice. I've heard they're extremely difficult to program is this true?

  • I was playing with my dx7 today and it is the best. truly is a power beast of a synth. i am glad i got the first model tho. i like the grittiness. truthfully the patch editing isn't as bad as people make it out to be at all. I love this guy. if you know a little about fm synthesis and you can do wonders with a dx7. affordable and great quality that is all i can say about the dx7s.

  • Great DX7 sounds! Which ROM cartridge are these sounds? I've tried the various factory sounds with the virtual DX7 'FM7' but none of them sound this good :( are this commercially available sounds, or are they custom made/original sounds that you have made? Thanks

  • Whats the piece of music u play at 4.30?

  • @Tecart2009

Du mußt eigentlich nur Spass mitbringen . Alles andere kommt von ganz allein.

  • Real nice sounds : ) Still have my DX7IIFD bought new for $300 back in 1990 @ music store closeout sale. New in the box! Great layered with D50 & OB-8. I love the older sounds. That's what makes ROM samples in today's instruments

  • Goddamn. 1:27 - 2:00. I am so in fucking love with these sounds. I wish there'd be a full song with these. I have something similar, but it's a "co-op"-song with similar synths.

  • @NoMac90

    yes very synclavier like.

  • @NoMac90 Check out my tunes. I use the DX7 all over my album. Great demo! Thanks

  • I like the DX72 better.

  • Do you see a major difference between the sound of the first and this version of the DX7?

  • @Tischhupe

yes , the sound is different. the DX-7 II is more clean , the DX7 more raw

  • love the demo! did you program these presets yourself?

  • @culturaleyes

    a few from them

    thx :)

  • @retrosound72 care to share any of them? I'm a big fan! I just got a DX7 and it didn't come with many cool sounds like in a lot of the youtube videos

  • @culturaleyes

    check this page: recup.ch

  • very nice sounds ... I realize now what impact the DX7 has had ... 1:22 and on reminds me of Jan Hammers work for Miami Vice :-D

  • Magical Machine!!!

  • The beginning of the melody at 1:13 is basically the Song of Time from The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time!!!

Yes, I'm sure you are all fascinated by that fact because you all know exactly what I'm talking about....... *Ahem*

  • Nice demo, I like the sound of this Dx7

    Thx for sharing

  • @djgalactic

    thank you

  • Gutes Demo.

  • @sauermusicDE

    dankeschön :)

  • Definitely one of the BEST demos of the DX7 on youtube! Have you ever played the regular DX7? if so have you noticed any big differences? Because if it doesn't sound like this, I'd much rather get the DX7 II...

  • @culturaleyes

    thank you

the sound is a bit different , the Dx7 is more raw, the DX7 II more brilliant

  • @retrosound72 The DX7 II always sounded to me like it was designed to compete with the Roland D50. Certainly an interesting synth. Thanks for the video.

  • Quite beautiful

  • @SkydiverShado

    thank you

  • Love those great sounds Marko thanks ;-)

  • @Posthuman2003

    thx a lot :)

  • 1:06 is awesome!!

  • A machine of great sonic beauty!

    Danke Herr RetroSound! :-)

  • @TheSilverDubber

    :) thank you

  • @technfreak1

    Fairlight

  • Schöne Schuhe ! Aber noch besserer Sound, einfach EXTRAKLASSE !

  • Do most modern day digital synths have built-in drum kits? Can you give examples of these synths, especially ones that cost under $500? Thanks :)

  • @19cartoon95

This channel specializes in retro synths from the late 70s, 80s, to early 90s.

I'm sure there are other YouTube channels that have the synths you're looking for.

  • @888music I'll look around more. And I am aware that this is a retro-synth channel :)

  • Great sounds.R

  • @musictec1

    thanks

  • Nice work retro! This synthesizer sounds awesome! 5/5!

  • @RukiVverh12

    thank You :)

  • @NELLOARA

    grazie :)

  • Nice FM sounds 5/5

  • @bkroz9000

    thank you

  • sounds perfectly reminds me 80-90's series movies - thx Man ( :

  • @mm69pl

    thanks

  • this is the best video showing the power of the DX7

  • @sloo7047

    thank you

  • Total relax sound, thanks *****

  • Are these sounds programmed by you??? Also, great reference vid, really shows-off some of the potential of the early DX series... I love my DX7, even have 1-6 in the cartridge series... Though I admit, they're very tedious to program, by which I mean a pain in the butt... Nice demo!!!

  • Nice to see some of the sounds possible beyond the typical bells and electric pianos that the DX is stereotyped for! Nice!

  • @Syntox

yes the DX7 is undertax with bells and pianos

    thx

  • Amazing sounds great video! thanks for posting.

  • @WeirdRicky

    thank you

  • Dude, this was amazing. One of my favorites yet, the chords give me goosebumps, lol

  • @birdmankustomz666

    thank you :)

  • Many keyboards that if not for you, had ever known on my life. Thank you very much!

  • Such a great synth..... Shame it's just soooo hard to program.

Thanks for posting this 'retro', takes me back :)

  • @kvfive

    thank you

yes not easy to program but the sound is fantastic

  • Great video! Keep them coming, please!

This one in particular is really up my alley right now, super jiving on ambience.

  • @homofaglove

    thank you :)
