I understand that people are impressed by this work, it is absolutely amazing...breathtaking even. But why are they impressed that it was done in the thirties? They only explanation would be that they think the people in the thirties didn't have an aptitude for art or hard work. Which is strange considering what beautiful art that had been made for 10,000 years before it. The real question would be, how come we haven't made better art than this in the last 100 years?
Too bad they didnt have a "special effects" academy award in 1930, 'cause this would surely win it!! Incredible stop motion animation!! And I thought King kong was good!! :) Thanks for posting this odd but spectacular bit! Still very entertaining!
I love stop motion, and this just makes me love it even more. Knowing the hard work, and long periods of stress these people had to go through in order to make this. It makes the 3 minutes all worth while.
This must have blown peoples minds in the 30s, hell it's blowing my mind now thinking about it. Where have all the animators gone who think like this? the part with the car... a masterpiece.
Amazing. I'm an animator and I can't even believe how much work this would have been in to make in 1930. And most of it is so smooth. Super cool. Incredible.
the car at the end :O boggled my mind i guess they either sawed it off bit by bit then reversed it or they had serious termite problems heh but yeah this footage is a jem proffesionally done and smooth too compared to alot of modern stop motion attempts,,,excellent! :)
so what are you trying to tell me? that shaving a turkey is funny, like what do they speak in turkey, gobble gobble, dad's joke, does this mean you'll set me back up with my boyfriend?, or let me get married to him? please. ha ha i am going to go ask him to shave a turkey with me, do you think he'll love me?
I had this on video as a child and loved it! The video had a series of cartoons and frame by frame movies. It was called Weird Cartoons. its much to be appreciated :)
Amazing! I don't know how he made that car appear, but its incredible. Just heard of this guy on a cool Amazon list of silent comedy. "Great Moments in Silent Comedy."

Let's see, 5 million cars a year equates to 1 car every 6.3 seconds.
In the video, it takes the bird a good 9 seconds just to lay the egg, let alone process it any.
