Commercial switf on the dance scene. Now that's what I call 'chart band'. Before The Game they swore they wolud never touch synthetizer. They touch it and, there you go, pretty crap dance album. Pretty crap rock album. Pretty crap pop album. Total: pretty crap.
everyones talking about different "problems" with the album. i dont think there was any problems. None of the songs are my favorite- but its fucking queen. how can you possibly not like a song? Anyway- ive seen interviews about the album- they were bored, they wanted to try something new. thats whats so fucking special about queen- freddies moustache, his sparkly red one piece, bohemian rhapsody, hot space- they take risks- and they dont care if people dont like it.
@94shauns wow i guess your not a queen fan then... too bad. Mustapha is one of my favorite songs and i think this album took a lot of balls to make. Under pressure, life is real, cool cat, body language, action this day, las palabras de amor- all great songs.
@Supercharge87 Yeah commercially speaking not bad album. If they weren't The Queen this track should of been on an LP dusting away on some shelf in an old music shop as the size of Nick Hornby's one in High Fidelity.
sorry im a huge queen fan but hot space sucked...the album was also so poorly produced.......sooo tinnie with no bottom......yuch....and under pressure was added to the sessions to sell the album..
I think Queen took a bad choice to do this kind of music. It was a huge flop for an emerging band in the US. It took all by surprise even die hard fans. I guess they were also a bit bored of the same and that's why they took this choice, besides not being in their most inspirational year as well...but Queen always was a band of taking risks and changing styles so it also makes a natural move coming expecially for freddie who pushed more to do a funk sound. Today i value a lot t album
I think the biggest problem about this album was, that it was over-produced, the songs were not that bad as themselves, but the ambience destroyed the "Queensound"
@GOURMET1977 it was not queen's sound at all to me. that was the problem
actually the problem seemed more to be Queen not having fun anymore, being tired of each other, which was understandble after more than 10 years together an many hits. i think that must have been a huge shock hearing a queen song sound like this but today i really enjoy it and i think it's great!
My thoughts exactly! When I heard those lyrics, I was like "Woah, Brian! Where'd that come from?!" Then I thought "Oh, probaly the same place Fat Bottomed Girls did." Lol
This and Delilah, along with Calling All Girls and Body Language are the only Queen songs i don't like at all. Not bad for over 230 songs.

I think it's one of the best albums, quite surprisingly. Probably way ahead of its time.

@Salmakia77 Esepcially i want it all, the guitar mid way when it quickens sounds really modern.

I can see why people hated this album. This is such a departure from Queen's other albums. However, I personally enjoy it. It's not a bad album.
