Just watch BJ Penn vs. Joe Stevenson. That fight went on when blood was pouring from Joe (ALOT more blood than what came out of Karo's cut) and nobody stopped it. So I really don't have an explanation as to why this fight ended so abruptly other than it was a bad call.
