  • 25 years isnt all that long for a romulan, they are long lived like vulcans. you might keep in mind that older spok is propably approaching 200 years old in this movie.

  • this movie was cinema gold

  • great review and great movie. However, i don't think you should reveal the "emotional" parts of the movie in your reviews. Such as when you revealed Kirk's father's death.

  • i hope they know there making a sequel to this in 2012

  • stupid

  • Why is every Star Trek review the same!!?! It all starts with them saying it's from JJ Abrams and then go into who that is.... etc then everyone says "I'm not a big star trek fan, but this was great" YES WE FUCKING GET IT ALREADY. Oh then show the trailer for half the "review" and talk about what happened in the film. YAWN. I'M SO ANGRY!!!!

  • I haven't see the others star trek movies and I don't want, I just love the new one It was amazing and it is now one of my favorites movies of all time

  • then u should watch the other films...at least Nemesis and First Contact. every Trek film is powerful. there isn't one film tht sucks!

  • I would say all of them go in a unique and bold direction with stories truly out of this world, but I'd have to say Final Fronitier sucked.

  • trek 5, insurrection.....

  • How come you don't want to watch the other ones?

  • the other ones looks really crappy but maybe I would watch the series on WGN America at night

  • I was never into Star Trek but this film impressed me

  • Billy Brimblecom:

    "Stargate 2009"

    Moron...

  • If you want you can watch Star Trek the movie for free here:

    moviem*tv/action/star-trek/

    replace * with dot

  • Kirk was against starfleet and everything it stood for?? In what film? He didn't quite feel that way at all.

  • He was at the beginning because he had a big chip on his shoulder from his father's death.

  • Well I'm not arguing with you but he never actually verbally said anything bad against starfleet. Nice review BTW.

  • Well does everything need to be said ? No. i hate when characters tell how they feel instead of showing it...kinda like in the new Star Wars movies..

  • -villain was very underdeveloped

-too many nods to the old movies/series (more like headbanging) held this movie back from being its own thing

-too heavy reliance on chance as a storytelling device (i.e. "Dear Diary: I crashed onto this ice-planet and then I met Spock and then we met Scotty and he beams us back. Great Day!")

Other than those big flaws it was OK. enjoyable. I am sure though that they can make the next one a whole lot better. These origin things are almost always sort of meh

  • the spock thing was a little convenient but otherwise it was a federation planet so there would have been a base, meeting scotty i guess was just...extremely lucky

  • yup, you're completely right.

It was extremely lucky. Don't you think though, that they could've made it a little more logical that they meet up? For example Spock could be looking for Kirk, to warn him, instead of running into him by chance. Then the viewer doesn't have to suspend his disbelief and instead goes "aaaaaah" ;)

  • I don't know about other viewers but when Spock Prime said "fascinating" I felt it was 'destiny' and no matter what changed in the time line These People were bound to meet

  • well it is a movie with aliens and giant monsters on ice planets so its not going to be totally realistic

  • Well, a world can be unrealistic, but the story still needs to make sense. Look at the Dark Knight for example. You won't find logical inconsistencies in the story but it's still about an adult dressing up like a bat to fight criminals

  • haha good point

  • This movie was full of cliches, and was a standard action movie involving some Star Trek characters, so it was purely OK. Nothing great, nothing terribly bad. But yeah just like Iron Man, you can take/leave this movie.

  • Of course it was full of cliches, it was full of homages to one of the biggest inspirations of the space opera genre, ever. :P

  • It was how well-sketched the characters were in such a little amount of time that made it so good, though.

  • I disagree. This was entertainment done right. The filmmaking was awesome, the acting was top-notch, the score was amazing, and the writing was well done.

Seriously, how "unique" can any movie be? Every movie is essentially composed of clichés! Its all about the execution.

  • the movie was amazing i agree 100% with the review you guys hit all the great spots on it good job =D

  • SWEET review! going to see star trek tonight!!

  • A highly informative and polished movie review, I'll be venturing into uncharted Star Trek territory very soon, to watch this new reinvention of the franchise.

  • lol the beginning was funny good review guys

  • Sweet review guys. I know that this is pointless to say, but if that red rock fist at the end turned into the vulcan v thing, I would have been rolling on the floor. Once again sweet review, can't wait to read the write up.

  • oh man, didn't even think of that!! that would have been awesome.

  • ya i was thinking of that too lol

  • i have to wait until next Thursday when the movie comes out to PR :(

  • I've been waiting to see this for months, hoping to see it this Saturday.

BTW the guy on the left is a little out there :P

  • looks very good but im jusr curios howcome J.D. is never on the show anymore?

  • JD is in grad school, hopefully he will have more free time over the summer!

  • oh okay.

  • I'm gonna have to see this now...

  • I thought the same thing. I'm kind of not happy about it. I wanted to ignore the thing.
