@flyingscience OK, as per your suggestion, I did google the eye question and although the term "eyes" are used, it is written that they are photosensitive cells, but do not transmit a visual picture. So, i think, objectively, the term eye(s) is still just a matter of interpretation. Just trying to be factual, not argumentative, for the education purposes of those seeking knowledge. Thank you for the video. It is very interesting and informative.
You can always tell when someone tries to talk knowledgably about something they know nothing about.
Someone who actually knows biology can tell you that an eye is an organ that detects light. Some are very complex, and some are very basic, being capable of doing little else than detecting light and movement, but they're still eyes.
Unless you're someone confuses the word 'factual' with 'fucking stupid', in which case you argue constantly about eyes not being eyes.
@wheelalligator You are correct. Why do you talk of yourself like that though? Anyway, you are correct, 10 you can call it an eye. 2) it detects light and changes. Bye bye little Cousteau.
I don't think winning an argument with semantics is any better than resorting to ad-hominem attacks. Not that I am doing any research on it - I just take note that you failed to prove your claim before implying you had disproven flyingsciences' claim.
Although not olfactory, I can claim the pits on a snake's jaws are primitive nostrils. If a herpetologist disagreed, fine, but I wouldn't read it to you verbatim out of a book called "SNAKES."
@flyingscience Biologists who Call them eyes probably don't mean to imply they can visually discern details (forms, textures, complex patterns) of the environment by interpreting varying degrees of reflection. The name should be appropriate to the referent's function. Eyes = lay term. Calling them eyes doesn't magically endow them with complex visual capacities. And stop using google for educational purposes. At least use scholar.google.com
ah it's kind of cute ^.^ and sea scallops can swim too o.O which is kind of funny and interesting to picture :3

Cool Video. I have actually never seen one alive before this. Of course, I live in Ohio, so it isn't something that I run across very frequently.

That is a Bay Scallop not a Sea Scallop. And to MRH00D. Scallops do have eye spots that can sense light and movement.

@flyingscience They detect motion and shadows and light. They are indeed a form of eyes.

@flyingscience That's a matter of interpretation as to what you define as an "eye', correct? They are light sensitive, but cannot truly "see".
