  • Is this a level 5 finish after the two coats of the 20 minute mud? Do you ever use the premixed light weight compound over the second coat? What type of primer do you use over the 2 coats? Thanks for your videos, there are very informative.

  • @kilfrg Hey guy, I'm not sure what level 5 is. Sorry. However what we did is a smooth finish. I always mix our plaster as well as stucco, it take more time but the results are much better product usually, than pre-mixed. Lastly, i usually just recommend a Kelly Moore or other quality primer for plaster. Best wishes.

  • @StuccoPlastering Isn't that the scale where level 1 is just embedded tape (as one might find in an attic fire partition) and level 5 is smooth enough to look good near a light fixture? Anyway, it's cool to see someone use one of those oblong trowels; I was thinking of getting one the next time I take on something like this. You must need a taping knife or a rectangular trowel for the corners. Looks good.

Hey guy, that sounds about as close to explaining the levels as I have heard.

I use the swimming pool trowel sometimes where I don’t want the trowel lines, and lastly I use a wing trowel for the corners. Place allot of mud in these areas, and simply pull the wing tool up or down and you have a great corner with ease.

Thanks for the comment, and have a good evening

  • looks great. thanks for he tips. going to take a stab at patching some plaster for the first time. I've been browsing your video's and trying to take it all in.

  • @madatown Your welcome pal, and best wishes with your projects. Even if you don't get it perfect at least you would have given it your best shot. That's worth more then perfection.
