  • most good jazz musicians can play other styles of music usually better than those doing such styles as blues, metal, rock, pop, clasical music, latin etc so if your gonna play or learn music better get it in your soul(jazz that is)

  • And quiet as its kept its really not all that difficult. I do it alot of times without meaning to or when Im just feeling it. And by the way Im a left handed drummer so its quite easy for me. Chambers is a beast and has been for a long time. Virgil Donati will prove that this is a very simple thing to do as he demonstrates doing it separately with both feet and then both together.

  • 1:20

  • esse groove éé o maximo

  • groove of another dimension

  • Dennis Chambers and John Scofield in the same band. A Dream Band for sure. I haven't heard much of Gary, but He's an Awesome Player no doubt.

  • @ebozyn Search For The Band The Pockets (Now Defunct) Grainger Was The Bass Player

  • i'm going to see him live this thursday in my hometown playing with henderson...can't wait damn

  • Hell of a song , iI first got hip to Scofield, when he played with Miles ,and Cobham,he is to me the badist blues gutarist with lots of theory under his belt: eat your heart out Eric Clapton...

  • This dvd changed my life... (huge smile)

  • @beantown28 I'm with you on that one. Was introduced by mate when the cd came out, then saw the dvd (actually, I think it was a video). Played them both death. Peace & love of the good muzic.

  • ... and yes, I'm working HARD to develop a right foot anywhere in the vicinity of Chambers'....

  • uuuuuuuuu en otro mundo no jodeeerrrrrrrrrrrrrr

  • 5 People wish they had Dennis Chambers' right foot and left hand.

  • @BereanCalgary Me too!!!!

  • Have any of you critics heard or seen what Dennis is playing with his single bass-drum pedal? Most metal drummers would gladly be able to play that on one. They never will because they just don't get it. That is why double pedals had to be invented, so the wannabes might come close to sounding as good as Dennis. Sad isn't it? RESPECT!!

  • @daverow49 Well, Dennis also uses a double pedal, although he doesn't utilize it as often as metal drummers tend to do.

  • @daverow49 the doubles he put down are so flawless, a prime example of heel-toe when executed properly.

  • @StarTrekGorilla Thanks to you for supporting my comment. We are obviously reading from the same score. Really sad that the detractors will never get it:)

  • @daverow49 I'm a Metal drummer, I can do this. I use a single pedal. Proof is on my channel

  • @metalmaster126 I just looked, I'm pretty sure you can't.

  • @rldrummer7 I'm pretty sure I can. Definitely not as well as Chambers, but I can.

  • @daverow49 the use of two pedals was pioneered in the 30's by a jazz legend. So what if you want to play more notes with 2 feet? It was invented because it's cool; so cool even Dennis uses one. Don't judge it's use on metal drummers who don't practice enough, it's totally possible. At least the top metal drummers (ex. Derek Roddy) perfect their left foot far beyond your conventional drummer.

  • @daverow49 are you sure they just didn't want to play some metal?

  • 5 people have no brain

  • Hey, what exactly does the colour of the drum have to do with the artistry being crafted, my friends? Anyway, we know people that have the "gig" are going to be criticized. We wish we could have a thousand dollar per drum rig. Wouldn't we, guyz? Oh, well how is that Holiday Inn wedding gig working for you?

  • N°1: John Scofield

drums: N°1: Dennis Chambers - N°1: Steve Gadd - N°1: Vinnie Colaiuta ....the best ever.

  • @jettero75 Check Jeff Sipe. or maybe Billy Cobham? Just sayin' there are more than a few great ones out there.

  • what would you call this genere of music ?

  • @Benfreidkin22 funk

  • @Benfreidkin22 Fusion / funk.

  • @FurlanPaolo celestial fuison funk

  • @LOLOKAKASOSO Celestial is the very fitting word.

  • those hideous lookin' drums are pearl reference series 'douchebag'...priced about $1000.00 per drum...pretty hideous huh?

  • @bsonor He's right, they are a fuckin' dumb colour. Price of the drums is totally unrelated.

  • hideous lookin drums, lol. Gotta love DC though!

  • lol dennis looks like Ice Cube back when he was in NWA !!!! ahahahahaha

  • Man do I miss the kick ass fusion comps like these. Sco, Stern, Chick, Herbie - why did it have to go away? This cut is such an excellent representation of the great wrting and grooves this period produced.

  • This is porno music at its finest.

  • a masterpiece

  • what the fu**!!! absolutely amazing drumming, dennis is the man

  • One of the best fills ever at 2:37?!

  • FuNkin' amazing!!

  • ace!

  • mmmm....those john bohnam triplets are sexy.

  • John is one of those few guitarists that i can't get bored listening to he grooves hard brotha

  • dnt hate on chambers!!! lets see u haters do better??? put up or shut up!!!

  • wow dennis is so incredible :) <3

  • i could never play my hats that low, it obviously works well for him,he lays it down,

  • @drummerg2

its because he only accents on 2 and 4 on the snare.

  • Scofield is lucky to have such a sexy rhythm section!!

  • @DanBrown58 That sexy rhythm section is lucky to have a legend like Scofield.

  • @DanBrown58 Nah, he's earned it.

  • Scofield is lucky to have a sexy rhythm section like that

  • Sco's style is so lyrical and complements the music. I love his sound !!

  • also, i don't really get scofield's playing. it's like he's constantly going, "kay, this note? naw, naw, wait... oh, this one! no, not that..." it's like he's just really tired and doesn't quite have the energy to fully commit to playing the notes. not saying he's not a good player, i just don't get his style. never have.

  • 4:30-4:37 i love that whole chord progression. just nasty

  • I don't know if it's just me, But I like this Chambers better than the current (older) Chambers.

More GROOVY less racing the kit around

  • @y2rock well this vid is from the 80's so how much "older" are we talkin?

  • @zooby11isbambam

Well 25 years, I know it feels like it was yesterday :(

Back then he was soooo coooool and groovy, these days he is less groovy, he is more into the "impossible" (speed & odd time signatures) rather than a good groovy/funky beat

  • @y2rock maybe he's trying to "keep up" with today's generation of drummers, with the speed and everything, since a basic groove doesn't seem to excite most people these days. sad, but what can you do?

  • @zooby11isbambam

True, sad and stupid (what a waste of talent)

  • @y2rock did you watch the video where chambers plays with ToP

  • This is surely one of the better, top projects Dennis Chambers participated in.

Great CD from Scofield. Great musicians who made great music.

  • "Like Scoffield said" he's a cross between Tony Williams & Billy Cobham

  • blx ?

  • damn, this groove is SO BRUTAL! yeah

  • it seems most of you are into rock and not into jazz fusion.

  • i hate when ppl mention bonham when they hear bass drum triplets out of one pedal

  • I prefer Straight Red, but I believe he is able to create some Epic Purple.

  • you know when someone is playing a sea foam green drum set your in for a good time.

  • He is PERFECT (I MEAN DENNIS)

  • It's nice to see someone with a Hefty bag full of tricks just lay down a simple, but super funky groove.

  • Years ago, I got to see John Scofield and Dennis Chambers play live here in Cali. Dennis damn near stole the show while doing his drum solo, AWESOME !

...Blue Matter is my favorite album by John. He is an awesome guitarist.

  • John scofield! My hero!

  • @ElJazz93 Sco is the best...

  • @maticvuk I saw him at the House of Blues a while back and wooed the masses there! His drummer was cool but I wished he had DC with him. Would've brought the mutha down!!!

  • That is funk!!!

    Amaizing"!!!!

  • I almost had a heart attack, I couldn't see dennis's third floor tom...

  • ahhhhh i cant get enough of the GROOVE

  • The colour of that kit is Beautiful I wana know the colour! lol Dennis is a fuckin god love his work on this DVD!

  • what a pocket groove!

  • The way he works in the bass drum is amazing

  • The best music ever! I saw Dennis Chambers live and he is amazing!

  • 0:00 - 8:02 = best part!

  • 1:19 - 2:25 is one of the meanest fills ever.

  • I fucking ADORE this song!

  • This tune was my introduction to Dennis Chambers. Proto, I agree - DC can groove way too deep - doesn't have to unleash all those Dennis-isims in order to blow you away.

  • ik hou ook van drummen, maar dit is saaaaaaaaaaaaaaai

  • test

  • test

  • test

  • J.S was a bit scrappy.............?

  • @mushroomzagain at the time I think he was getting over a drinking problem bro.

  • Real Drumming fuck metalcore drummers

  • People, it's in the hat.

  • sorry... 0:40

  • multiple tripletes with one foot :)

  • take a look on Chamber's feet at 0:43

  • 1:18 WAH

  • cominciamo a far sentire questa musica anche in italia cristo iddio!!!!!....abbiamo tanti di quei musicisti in gamba....porca troia c'è solo san remo che conta!?!?!...non ci voglio piu credere...

  • awsome

  • I'm watching Dennis Chambers' In the pocket DVD at home right now but having to come on to Youtube to send links of the tastiest bits to my bass player in the hope of him learning that playing in the pocket is much more satisfying and much less likely to get him sacked than the clumsy attempts at 'chops' he keeps trying...

  • The hardest instrument to find a proficient player on is the Bass. Probably cause their are so few of them. Best of luck with your Bass player, my advice is to RECORD RECORD RECORD even if on crappy medium. Then he wlll see how far out and crappy loose playing sounds...you hope. The only thing worst than a bad musician is one who does not know they are bad. Again, good luck.

  • perfect video

  • Some of you people dont know real music! So dont hate! Learn from this group

  • You are boring.

  • m8te u knoe nuttin abt music if u think dis is boring

  • anybody know how this was recorded

  • that drum set is so wild

  • 0:30 OMG

  • dennis my man!! you youtubekidz need to practice playing softly. dynamics, dynamic, dynamics!!!

  • yeaaaaaa

  • guitar was soooo Hendrix

  • Oh Man! What a rhythm group! Killa.

  • hes just a gennius ( dennis chambers) and whats incredible is that he never studied to become a drummer, hes 100% lyric

  • @gomezluna YES HE DID!!!! It might have not been at a whiteboy school U and so many others have been BRAINWASHED to believe was some school like a WEAK-ASS JULLIARD or some BULLSHIT school which is why there are NO INNOVATORS anymore...everybody that attends these so-called schools I just mentionec are COPYCATS...Thats the very reason why Miles Davis quit JULLIARD...because he realized they were FUCKIN THEIVES and LIARS..They teach EUROPEAN music instead of American music...BLUES!!! HOLLA!!

  • Hey bro thanks for that info, but i saw in an interview that he said that, but who knows? jhjaja , hey i have a cuestion for you, What is your opinion about berklee college of music, cause im planning to assist there to study, but an extra opinion is not bad, thanx

  • What is your expected outcome? U are better off coming to Puget Sound, get an apt, rent a drum instructor 4x a month for 6 months..practicing up to 8 hrs a day so U can "break your wrists" properly....then come see me....I will save U at least 20,000 and U be 1 of the baddests around...if U could hang!! HOLLA!!!

  • haha then ill save some money and go to Puget,

  • @gomezluna YES!!! Some of the best drum teachers are here in Seattle area...now I can't say that about other instruments but for drum instructors...they are here...What part of world are U? PEACE!!!

  • where can I find the link?

  • Dennis seems to have himself very balanced and centered, doesn't sacrifice the rhythm just to satisfy any ego he might have; like if the other guys told him to come in and just wail away, he would still insist on holding the groove and playing what's appropriate. I like he isn't full of body-english and faces when he decides to go off, either. he just lets his hands and sticks do the talking. all business when he's playing. joy to watch.

  • that's some crazy foot work...time to practice..

  • @jetsterx Yep... I use that foot shuffle as an exercise, awesome stuff.

  • Those Bonham like one foot triplets sound awesome

  • Wow, that bass player!!! at 3:36, the phrase he plays, the feel involves someone elses instrumnt, that guy is really aware of the music around him :)

  • He blatently began with traditional grip just so he could do that trick at 0:25 XD

  • No, he did it so he could play softer grace notes...

  • called a joke dawwg

  • is that ICE CUBE ON DRUMS LOL

  • awsomeness...

  • thats mlx pearl?

  • woaw.. nice groove...

  • damn, the piano player is nuts!

  • Great!

  • Dennis Chambers is one mean motherfucker!!!

  • 0:34 to 0:43 is proof that no one escapes Bonham's influence...

  • there's nothing bonham about that part.. are you saying because he played the double like bonham did in that one song that it's inspired by him?

  • Listen to "Good Times, Bad Times", and try to go away uninspired.

And note, in my original post I didn't say "inspired", I said "influenced". Bit of a difference.

What I originally said had the implications that Chambers had heard Bonham play, and thought something along the lines of "That sounds pretty cool, maybe I'll try that sometime." Which would make him influenced by Bonham.

Inspired by implies something a little more hardcore, like idolisation.

  • dude there were drummers doing that way before bonham and he didnt invent playing fast doubles with the foot. it comes from latin grooves and claves. im not saying he didnt do it well but to say that chambers is doing it because bonham did it and not because the music told him to is kind of rediculous

  • He said quite frankly on this DVD that the doubles and triplets were inspired by past funk drummers. Some before Bohnam's time.

  • All I can say is that shit jams! ;-)

  • gary and dennis really know how to lock in with each other. when the bass and drummer do that it makes the music 100x better. i've always loved this combo

  • the bass ...

  • Wow, great stuff!! I just love the relaxed and groovy playing of dennis;)

  • i mean Scofield

  • looks like george karlin jammin out haha

  • scolfield looks like a doctor.

  • It's Jim Beard.

  • i want a CD with his music...anyone???

  • John Scofield "Blue Matter" ....for me the best cd where you find all the songs that Dennis plays in his videos!!!

  • i will spend the rest of my life trying to be agood as him and all the others lol. Drumming rules and i love this song :)

  • heel toe magic 0:40

  • thats not heel toe, thats just a slide technique look at his heel is always up

  • oh i've never heard of that my bad

  • Dennis is never unnecessarily showy, he's the man!

  • one of the greatest ever

  • great all around band,,,one of my fave bands right next to james browns,,a must see,,for people to lean how to say in pocket sometimes,,no show boating ness..

  • What a foot. That is one funky groove.

  • Keyboardists' name: Jim Beard, mystery solved.

  • Does they keyboardist's (I'm blanking on the name) equipment look like one of those flimsy Casio keyboards you can buy in the JC Penney catalog? It just looks oddly cheap....

  • Dennis the best

  • I can't get enough of this song.

  • Dennis is very good at his musical instrument.

  • hey Dennis, Can I borrow your right foot for my next gig???

  • when the bass begins to slap with the kit, the result is so funky! the space makes live! and the triplet unison bit at 1 20 ish! pow!

  • Dennis Chambers leaves enough space for Gary Grainger to fit into, and the result is soooo funky. :D

  • Its not the drummer who wants to be in the spotlight.

just support the music as best as he can most drummers forgotten that important rule along time ago.

  • yeah man. Dennis Chambers plays his part within the band perfectly. He keeps the groove flawlessly and when it is his turn, show's his awesome skill while STILL maintaining a groove. This man is unreal

  • i like "so you say" from that same DVD also too bad its not on here.

  • Is that guitar he is playing an Ibanez and if not what make is it?
