To heck with her singing....we all know she's one of the top 3 divas to ever live...but I could sit and listen her SPEAK all day long. She is just an awesome woman.
I can't thank you enough for posting these videos. As a professional singer, I have learned so much for the wonderful videos that you've posted over the years of the great masters. This collection is truly a treasure for any aspiring operatic performer to learn from.
My mother had a graveside funeral in 2002, and two of the greatest singers of all time were there. Leontyne Price sang The Last Rose of Summer, from Martha. Joan Sutherland sang I Know That My Redeemer Liveth from The Messiah.
They joined us through a simple cassette player sitting on a nearby tombstone. As the music swirled around us, the birds in the trees joined in. It was the finest sendoff anyone could have had. I hope my family does the same for me some day.
Lovely tribute to Marian Anderson - I've never seen another person with the incredible dignity that Leontyne had - saw her in Ann Arbor in the late '80's or early '90's and she was so regal. Just like Marian Anderson - and like no one else!
An extraordinary and gifted lady. How regal and gracious but humble at the same time. I just adore her and always will. There is no other in the field of opera that can hold a candle to her. Thank goodness we have these priceless pieces of film and video now on Youtube. It's only now that all the world can see how amazing she really is. For people like me far away "down under" it is something to treasure.
All Hail! All Hail!! This is God's gift to the world. I am glad I was alive to have heard her sing in person. I miss her concerts so much! She is the voice of the ages and a beautiful and wise spirit. I revere and love her. I pray she will continue to share her vocal wisdom with young artists and professionals. The Price is right!!
THIS IS THE VOICE AND GENIUS I HEARD ON THE RADIO THAT INSPIRED ME AT EIGHT YEARS OLD. I'M DOING MY BEST TO FOLLOW IN HER AWESOME FOOTSTEPS!!!!!! Carmen Balthrop
I dedicate this video to Gladys Jackson. Who remembered Ms. Price from her days at Julliard, and mentioned how hard she worked.
Gladys Jackson, was a black american woman who taught for many decades, 25 years at WLAC in Culver city.
She was to be one of the greatest American pianists, but the birth of a child with down syndrome, made her renounce a career as concert pianist and to instead teach, for the remainder of her career. She retired in 1994.
That's so true... BUT....so many of today's singers don't even take any interest out of the bank balance. She could afford to say that because her vocal deposit was so rich in the first place. She was one of a kind.
Lucpedo, in majority, write poor english. Have he no respect for on of the most beautiful soprano voices ever? Think me he that have no need to comment as such.
You know I've always just adored her....and being a southerner myself, I love hearing her lovely southern accent. Charming. Much gratitude to you Miss Leontyne and love, Gary
Omg, I was there that night in D.C. when clips of this interview were used for the first annual NEA Opera Honors. I meet this lovely lady before her big brother said it was time to go. She is a wonderful person. Such life, and she sang that night. Oct. 31, 2008. I cried.
It must be hard to have all of those languages imprinted on your brain. She is a very smart woman, but you can hear she struggles to find the right English words some times. But who can blame her? How many languages is she fluent in? 5? 6? Incredible woman.
Leontyne Price's crystal clear vision of who she is and where she was with her voice and that relationship to the receiver: audience(public) leaves no misunderstanding that she was an honest and earnest perfectionist. Thank you.
Madame Price is proof that black don't crack. I am torn between her and Aretha as the greatest singers alive right now.
