Wonderful! I had the chance to hear Margaret Price in that role in Munich in the early 80s. It's still unforgetable. As far as I can remember, to sing Adriana was a special wish of M. Price. This rarely performed opera was brought in a new production in Munich specially for her at that time.
Best soprano ever! I had the good fortune to be a teenager in Cologne, Germany, when Dame Margaret was part of the opera ensemble there. She was my first Countess in Nozze di Figaro, my first Fiordiligi in Cosi fan Tutte and my first Donna Anna in Don Giovanni. No one has ever come close to that golden voice for me. When I hear her voice, I'm transported to a different plane... Thank you for posting!
I have great memories of this magnificent Welsh soprano. Best Nozze Countess I ever heard and a stunning Desdemona and a charming recitalist. Surprisingly effective in Spanish song.
Absolutely gorgeous; a voice in full bloom. One of the very best. Her Wesendonck-Lieder and various Strauss songs are first-rate, and she sings a very, very good Amelia in "Ballo" -- perfect bite for that role, with all the supple, soft feiminity that role requires. Really, one of the very best.
Margaret Price sang internationally at places like the Met. She was underused in England especially at Covent Garden. She was a glorious Fiordiligi and Countess and a heart stopping Desdemona with Domingo at Covent Garden in 1981.
It's difficult to say why this magnificent singer remains relatively unkown. She didn't like to travel and tended to sing in Britain and Western Europe. She also refused to sing certain composers, whom she felt were hard on her voice. I saw her as Desdemona with the Paris Opera. She's now 67 years old and retired, but what a great voice.
This is amazing!!!- how unfortunate that she was one of the most under-rate sopranos of her generation. She was truly great in Mozart, Verdi and Strauss.
@domi2020 It is a problem for many British sopranos/singers look at others like Pauline Tinsley. All great singers but relatively not much recgarded in the UK where they should have been in leading roles every season at the Garden.
