@tortoise656 actually yeah bro, he did. X just did a different arrangement of it. Theirs is better but I was just saying... yngwie did write this song though.
@joeyofdoom666 Yes, in fact they are known only as pioneers of New Wave of British Heavy Metal. After that title, they are the typical 15 years old-I-am-Learning-metal band. It's actually a heavy blues metal band, after the heavy albums of course.
@UandMeRacoons i don't like Symphony X more than Maiden because their songs are harder to play, but i think they write more interesting riffs and melodies technical or not
@NIMHFS Saying that V didn't have the same vibe doesn't seem plausible to me, the other 3 yeah, but V had some songs that brought me back to DWOT. Its just the mixing that was sorta poor on it. But over all I'd say TIO is my fav ablum

@AndJustieForMexico: Metallica is one of the few founders of thrash heck even heavy metal. Thats why they're considered they're the best. Theres better out there nowadays.(like these guys) but Metallica will never be forgotten.
He was very like Dio on this album and it is one of my favourite SyX albums! Sure there are some filler tracks but the rest are awesome, and also sadly neglected these days by the band...
@cjgone2 Check out "Domination" which is also by SYm X, the vocals on that are just badass, it is one of their heavier songs tho.
I heard DT before these guys(a shit ton of it at that, I still do :P) and Allen's vocals are different than LaBrie's. JLB's voice is amazing and maybe it'll take a couple of Sym X songs to get used to Allen's voice. Now honestly, Allen's voice is amazing, but this album(Damnation Game) might not be the best example of it, as it is the first album he sung for Sym X.
Progressive metal, black metal, power metal, heavy metal, trash metal, speed metal, white metal, slightly-dark-gray-metal,.... who cares. It's metal and it's good and that's all that matters
Suppose you have 2 bands, 1 black metal and 1 thrash metal,... then a 3rd band joins in which sounds like 50% black metal and 50% thrash metal, how would you name their style? trash-black metal? If u call it only trash metal, you alter the definition of trash metal.
ahh awsome, soo much awsomeness in 1 band, o btw labrie is incredibly whiney live, trust me i saw it with my own eyes an heard it with my own ears, this dude is soo much better live an i would loove to see him live
Why is it that the ignorant yell at others for being ignorant. People need to stop shitting on Labrie and understand what he did back in the day when Russel was just a teenager. Is Labrie currently one of the greatest singers in the world...hell no! Labrie (whose old) is nothing more than decent at times and won't be competing with russel but people need to understand that back in 92-93 when Labrie was belting like noone had done before (till he blew his voice out) he was fuckin untouchable!!
@hamielec untouchable by women lol, nah i love DT i saw them live in the progressive nation tour with opeth, trust me labrie is no longer that gud, his voice is inncreedibly winey an monotonic its awful, then u see this dude pure awsomeness, the best way to compare it is look at dream theaters cover of cemetary gates where u can hear them both
russel owns lebrie for the sheer fact that he is not a comeplete closet homosexual in denial. aside from that, russel is a great metal singer becasue he has a growl and sings with some balls, lebrie just wants to get ....pulled under...
Russel Allen's voice is far more powerful than Khan's, but I dont really like Allen when he's not doing his metal. I prefer Roy Khan's overall cuz I love his ballad and metal voices both.
allen has a far better voice for music like this. and dispite his versility khan shows much more emotion in his vocal range, so in my opinion just like allen blazes khan in this style, khan shreds allen's vocals in songs like ghost opera.
love both of their styles, and wouldn't have either change their ways. ^_^
how do these guys write music, not only i enjoy listening to them, but i've always been asking myself on how they are able to compose such masterpieces.
I don't mean to get wrapped up in a comment battle that isn't my own, but this is to difficult to resist.
Djbehnkevideo, although I agree with you that opera is an art form worthy of a great amount of respect, Russel is a fantastic vocalist. The variety he provides in a genre full of growling and average singers is unfathomable. Russel is miles above James Labrie (I love DT but Labrie is a bit behind Russel) and miles above others.
I disagree, James has always had a very limited range of vocal talents. He does well within his genre, though I feel Russell bests him in it. What really sets them apart however is that Russell can do many other incredible things, belting out opera like sounds and doing death metal growls to name a few. Labrie was never able to do these things to my knowledge.
@DannyLovesRush: Yeah, LaBrie is DT's weak point. My favorite DT tracks are often instrumentals (The Dance of Eternity, Stream of Consciousness, Blind Faith's instrumental section). By contrast, I would never in my sane mind say any SX track without vocals is my favorite one by them.
@DannyLovesRush I was just listening to some Symphony X and I began reading some comments on this video and then I saw my name XD. Anyway, I see where you're coming from now. I've warmed up to his vocals a lot and I now see where everyone was coming from. At the time I didn't find him very skilled, but I now realize he is. I do want to point out that I have always liked his vocals because they work very well with the music.
just because they're opera singers they are better than russel allen?!
just talk to them and they will see his power, of course there is no such thing as:
"the best singer in the world"
but you cannot deny his godness, he's got a fuckin great range, power, variety on techniques, that even most opera singer don't! you know, these guys study technique either! some of them as much as classical players
omg rusell allen is soo much better at singing than james hetfield. he can sing tough and heavy sounding, almost like thrash metal, but he has a high vocal range that sounds great.
The guys in the band hate getting labeled, but to me they ARE "symphonic progressive neoclassical power metal", with some thrashing riffs and a few gothic atmospheres, so there's a lot to symphony x
Listen to Helstar's "Nosferatu" - there's not much difference between the genres, when they're at their best. Helstar are a Power Metal band, but Nosferatu is seriously progressive.
There is by no means any power metal INFLUENCE... I guess thats just the sound you get when you mix metal and classical music. Power Metal is DragonForce FTL.
@KyleJPie10 When I'm talking about Influence, I mean the riffs sound a bit like the Riffs in Power Metal songs (And no, I'm not talking about Dragonforce), just way better.
@KyleJPie10 Power metal can actually be good, unlike DragonForce. Listen to Manowar, HammerFall, Iced Earth, Helloween (I really recommend the Keeper of the Seven Keys albums), 3 Inches of Blood, etc.
@KyleJPie10 Really? Because all of their albums (apart from their debut which I've only heard one song from) sound like power metal to me. Especially The Divine Wings of Tragedy.
You already know this but DragonForce is a godawful representation of power metal. Much more quality in the genre (Kamelot, Stratovarius, Firewind, Sonata Arctica, Avantasia, and those bands that other guy mentioned).
@BaronVonVascht Prog metal is just progressive because its not afraid to look like anything else. Prog metal can be something and its oposite at the same time, as longs as it follows the designed concept for the song. Its like another brick in the wall with that disco beat. (english is not my native language, sorry if i had some mistakes...)
@BaronVonVascht they're mainly symphonic but sometimes they cant resist a little side influence:P lol the odd thing about them is that some times their albums tend to sound drastically different from the others. Theyfall under like 3 or 4 genres technically. It's pretty hard to pinpoint exactly what they are really.
@BaronVonVascht Nope, you're right. As a matter of fact they are often categorized in specialized magazines and webzines as "symphonic progressive power metal". Add to that several neoclassical elements, some gothic atmospheres, and even and few thrash metal riffs in some songs; all in a masterful blend.
@BaronVonVascht i'm new to symphony X but i think they sound more like neo-classic metal. You can even hear a bit of solfegietto by C.P.E Bach at 0.27.
Fucking great song indeed. But what I always wondered: Maybe there are some fellas here who know the book "The Damnation Game" by Clive Barker (one of my favourite books by the way).
If so, do you know if the song relates to the book in some way? (I'm not English, so I don't know whether I get all the lyrics correctly :-))
Well, I think really big chances that they are related to that book, because it's one of those things that Symphony X likes to write about. But yeah, I haven't read that book, so I wouldn't know if they are really related to each other...
Amazing, Russell Allen its my favorite singer the first song i heard of symphony X was A Fools Paradise and i get shocked by his voice, but when i heard the accolade 1and i see them live in Mexico (i got a video in my chanel if you wanna see it) i realize that he is more than a simple human, he is a fucking God
u know whats weird?..michael romeo has very short fingers...i have extremely long fingures....he can stretch much further than me somehow and ive been playin for 10 years lol.

Add to that several neoclassical elements, some gothic atmospheres, and even and few thrash metal riffs in some songs; all in a masterful blend.

@BaronVonVascht i'm new to symphony X but i think they sound more like neo-classic metal. You can even hear a bit of solfegietto by C.P.E Bach at 0.27.

i don't think the song relates to the book. But I know the book...

Fucking great song indeed. But what I always wondered: Maybe there are some fellas here who know the book "The Damnation Game" by Clive Barker (one of my favourite books by the way).
If so, do you know if the song relates to the book in some way? (I'm not English, so I don't know whether I get all the lyrics correctly :-))
wurstgitarre 2 years ago
Well, I think really big chances that they are related to that book, because it's one of those things that Symphony X likes to write about. But yeah, I haven't read that book, so I wouldn't know if they are really related to each other...

Amazing, Russell Allen its my favorite singer the first song i heard of symphony X was A Fools Paradise and i get shocked by his voice, but when i heard the accolade 1and i see them live in Mexico (i got a video in my chanel if you wanna see it) i realize that he is more than a simple human, he is a fucking God
