This actually brought tears to my eyes, the PASSION of the man! I can't believe he didn't get it. He should do a motivational speech every single week, and it should be made law that every man, woman and child hear it, maybe on a dreary Monday morning. Just think what we'd get done! It could change the dynamic of the entire human race. His energy is infectious!
The fact that he didn't get the position proves there really is no justice in the world. A beloved man, a fantastic actor, with a clear and powerful passion for the school and its affairs. On top of that, he has an incredible thirst for knowledge. Think of how many he could inspire if he were the chancellor of that school. And who got it? Some stuffy politician, and more than likely due to his "generosity." This world sickens me.
I know for sure that Brian Blessed has everything and more to become the chancellor of the University of Cambridge. His drive, his lifemotto gives hope and vision to be a student of Cambridge. He can bring Cambridge on a new level.
I'd love to see one of his school essays. Written in all capitols, barely any cohesion between points and ends with a summary on cats. What a ledge <3
Best of the best of luck!!! But if Cambridge doesn't work out, he'll always be welcomed by William and Mary alums! Theoretically our Chancellor is our rep to the Crown, so why not? ;)
I have to say, I disagree with his belief that anyone can go to Cambridge. I know that no matter what I did, I could never get there. Not on my own merits, anyway (i.e. I do not have rich or famous parents!)
@JYCrazy1 Both my parents are cripplingly poor (I could tell you things about where we grew up that would make your hair stand on end), and I was the first person in my family ever to go to a university. I got into Cambridge, and got one of the top grades in my year. Most of the people around me were just like me, and didn't come from rich or famous backgrounds. A few did, but not most of them. I'm afraid your idea of Cambridge is at least 60 years out of date. Brian's on to something...
@orson12 Congratulations on getting there, then. You may have misunderstood my post - my key point was that I am not intelligent enough to get there, and neither were most of the people who applied for Cambridge (or Oxford) in my school year. Only three people managed to get to Oxbridge, and must say I don't think it's a coincidence that their parents were all very wealthy indeed.
@JYCrazy1 Yes, sorry, I misread the meaning of your original post! But I think there's the world of difference between encouraging people to apply when they don't have the grades, and encouraging bright kids who could easily get in, but are just too intimidated to apply. Cambridge already has a 60-65% state school intake. The main reason it's not higher is that only around 15% of state school students apply, while some private schools have up to 80% applying. It skews the pool of applicants.
He is beginning to look like an older Orson Welles

Brian: CHISWICK! Take this to Lady Sainsbury (hands him a vase)
Chiswick: What is it, my lord?
Brian: *Lord* Sainsbury.
That's what should've really happened.

Can we just give Brian the honorary title of "Master of Britain"?
It would be somewhere in between the monarchy and Prime Minister.
