The original and best version of this song. I think all musicians with a touch of genius about them are just a little off-beat, some, if not a lot of the time. Take the great Brian Wilson for example. Even Lennon was appealingly off-beat, but fabulous, after he evolved and moved on from being 'just a Beatle'. Zevon really had that similar stroke of musical genius, just like the two aforementioned lengends of rock music. The stuff he did sounds good to the ear - which is the ultimate test ...
