Great film and great opening scene! Love that scene where Jim yells "What Do You Want?!" and when Ryder starts laughing, Jim is like "haha, i kinda overreacted there..." Great acting from both of them.

If you noticed he never really tries to kill jim halsey he just fucks with him lol not sure why maybe he wanted to see if he could turn a normal person into a psyco or maybe just for shits and giggles.

This is where the remake messed up because they made john ryder seem like he was just out to kill everyone where that was just not the case in the first movie.

@skilo1983 He was gonna kill him at first, until he shoved him out of the car when he was a second away from getting that knife jammed in his eye, I think The Hitch Hiker realized he was "THE ONE" that could kill him and put him out of his misery which nobody els could seem to do. It was the Ultimate Good vs Evil. he says it in the car ride...08:00 The kid "What do you want" "The Hitch Hiker " I want you to stop me" The whole movie is based on him stopping The Hitch Hiker.

I think in a way he was trying to turn jim into a psyco to.
