valodj87 you dont know nothing about cars...... VVTL-i engine in this toyota celica is one of the best in the world..and toyota shurli didnt copied it from shitty brand like HONDA....... TOYOTA all the waayyyyy
is not a secret that toyta mitsu and others made their own version's of vtec... :S read before to post.... toyota is rly good brand... but vtec was the first variable valve timing and lift system...
vtec in honda engines like the B16, B18, K20 or F20 for example use a hydraulic ram and different cams to vary both the duration of how long the valves open and the lift of the valves themselves depending on rpm and throttle opening etc. Vvti in Toyota engines essentially only allows variation in the duration of valve opening but valve lift is fixed because only one cam profile is used. So, would you be so kind to explain your comment?
@sweatofmyballs i understand fully what you mean with the vtec and i would gladly explain my comment, you need to search the 2zzge on wikipedia, basically this engine has the same sorta thing going on with the vtec its called VVTL-i which stands for variable valve timing with lift intelligence you were referring to VVTi which is just variable valve timing. wikipedia will fill you in on the motor, this is only engine from toyota with variable valve lift but has had many different applications.
Thank you, i know the difference between vvti and vvtli. Like you said, vvtli and vtec are allmost the same thing, i agree with that. Then where is the point of your first comment? Just to comment it without any facts or proper informations is wrong and unfair. Please explain us why is it simpler and more effective?! We would gladly hear it.
I've got no idea why they made the us one only 180hp, that would piss me off if i lived in the states, and everyone else gets 190, doesn't make sense. In fact they should have just made them all with the parts from the TRD M Sport with 200hp and forget the rest.
sport m is not 200hp, contrary to what you'll hear on the internet and generally speaking, all 2zz's around the world make betweeen 155whp-160whp stock, which is around 180 hp.
because america has really hard out emission standards now, and all jdm imports are detuned compared to real japanese sports cars. no wonder why they think theyre shit, cos they cant breathe over there
at the crank, not at the wheels. Due to parasitic loss in the transmission and gearing, plus the loss because of wheel size and weight, the HP rating from the crank (180HP) drops when it hits the road (163HP). Thats the way it is with all cars.
VTi is 1.6cc 160hp made in 92 and runs as good as this 00´ 1.8cc celica! If you want to compare the same cc put an Integra type r side by side with a celica and see u wins ;)
No, then he won't land in lift (the cam change over that occurs at 6,000 rpm). This engine is designed to rev to 8,350rpm. He'll hit fuel cut before he hurts this engine. Different bore and stroke, higher compression than the 1zz-fe.

thats a shame. in new zealand it s 200hp.

Can you verify this info? I'm from NZ, and we get the jap imports, so we have the 180hp model (or 143 if you don't get the 2zz-ge model).
We don't assemble them over here. There isn't any 2ZZ-GE engine that comes out of the factory with 200hp.
