  • Fucking shitcunt this is goooooooood!

  • Zukerman plays violin too though right?

  • @Bobman4671 yep!

  • The viola is pushing me to orgasm!!!

  • so are we entering? Pinchas: dont forget your feet ... lol

  • One of the best pieces ever written.

    Viola for the win ♥

  • Jewish, European, Black! I don't get It. This is just wonderful music! Can't you consentrate on that? I'm Norwegian (like Halvorsen), but my grandgrandfather was born in Halle (like Händel). This music ( like all music) is for all people and all times.

  • at 1:16

    "ok?"

    "ok"

    *both start playing*

    i love that :)

  • Nothing beats this for virtuosity...simply glorious!!

  • It's Zukerman's 'Catch and Release" Every bow change is fucking incredible..

  • Zukerman's tone in this is other-worldly....not enough gold in the world to pay for that sound!

  • Viola really is harder than violin though. that's what makes this so amazing.

  • hey, one violin is bigger than the other! ...No...Really? LMAO

  • Ever since I heard this beautifull music during my violin lesson about 30 years ago I really love this...Perlman and Zuckerman give a jewish sound to the music, they play with eachother.... beautifull!

  • @klaproos65 What on earth does it mean to give a "jewish sound" to european (catholic) art music from the 18th century? Sounds like bullshit to me.

Or are you suggesting that non-jews can't play music together? Because there are about 100 million black people in the world who would undermine that idea.

  • una versione praticamente perfetta...la sintonia di questi due grandi maestri è fantastica...è una meraviglia ascoltarli e riascoltarli senza stancarsi mai!!!

  • @mrSk8Chiller actually Johan Halvorsen wrote the viola part

  • at @3:35 .... dudes jammin :)

  • @QuietFaceProductions start more around 3:31 cause YT is 'meh' with timings.

  • Aw I want a viola buddy too =(

  • Heey Pearlman is speaking Hebrew¡¡ or not, and excellente performance

  • Violas actually sound really amazing

  • @T3ZaNg some do and some don't

  • Every time i hear Perlman, I forget he has polio.

  • this is the best version ever, can t get better than this

  • I cried... i did, the first time i heard it. One, because of the rude comment about the violin, im kidding. But i did cry at the song, they have such a wonderful collaboration... i just love it!!!

    Thank you so much!

You bless the world with your music!

    God bless you!

  • i love how they're so relaxed before playing

  • The Best of The Best...

  • But the viola is something special!

What's a violin? It is NOTHING....!

    Legend! Like! Viola's rule!

  • 5:50 their instruments are dancing with one another...

  • Israel Philharmonic gala sounds amazingly. I adore sound of violin and viola there. Look at Perlman face during playing and just after finish. It says everything.

  • Dang, that Itzhak is sure funny!

  • how are they able to crack jokes right before performing to thousands of people? Simply amazing...

  • Perfect!! Bravo Maestros!!

  • violists are the best :)

  • Guy sounds asinine tbh.

  • @A1RB3AR I agree

  • The other violin looks bigger hahahaha

  • @TempoFurioso what other violin? I only see one violin.

  • @BoeingB17FF I merely repeated what Itzhak Perlman said when he was at the backstage before the stage performance... he pointed how the other violin looked bigger (meaning, the viola)... watch the video again tsk

  • @ kyleclef: writing yesh makes violists look bad.

  • you guys are legends, i admire and love you soo much, and hope that one day can i try to play half as well as you two :)

  • these guys just have the best bromance of all time.

  • @Myers6609 hahaha exactly.

  • did u know that perlman and Zukerman were classmates when they were in school.

  • @awesomejo2 no i didn't!

  • @awesomejo2

    No way?! That is awesome!

  • Comment removed

  • bravo

  • This makes me want to see more violin/violin scores written.

The two different types of sounds can really complement each other.

  • "hey! one violin is bigger than the other!" looool pelrman is amazing!

  • viola: epic win :D

  • Itzhak was a comedian in his previous life. He's just naturally funny bahahaa

and not a half bad violinist ;)

  • LOL! Sweet...

  • these two are like brothers

  • :}} yes,,.. thats great!!

  • so precise and effortless!

    I hold in high regard!

  • The violin is a toy and the viola special.I love them both!

  • A violin is easy to play, but a viola is something special. Whats a violin? Its nothing!----Pinchas Zukerman

    hahahaha i love him

  • @rebeccalo1016 Lol - I just laughed at the same thing :D

  • I enjoy this version most of all. Perlman's Soil Strad sounds amazingly!

  • @rebeccalo1016 look now, you have 100 likes!

  • I was sooooooooo drunk......

  • I can't agree with u more

  • Nobody Better!!!!!

  • I like Perlman's version of Goldmark's violin Concerto.

  • Perlman said something about "It was really bad"

    Why did he say that?

Did that orchestra play bad before or what?

  • I enjoy their playing, but it doesn't even come close to Heifetz and Primrose! I do think Zuckerman is way more musical that Perlman as he is more creative with his phrasing. I used to idolize Perlman, but after listening to alot of other violinists, I think he is overrated.

  • itzhak gets the feel and the emotion of the music. that elevates him. he is better than what you give him credit for

  • Have you listened to Heifetz and Primrose play this. I think it's way more sophistocated, but you are entitled to your own opinion, as am I. Perlman has enjoyed much popularity, but his playing used to be alot more impressive IMO>.

  • yea i did when i saw your comment. i like how they added some stuff in certain parts, but i just don't think it sounds as pleasing / nice as this =/ sorry

  • almost like chuan yun li! oh wait.. hah. have you heard chaun play? idk your comment made me think of him lol

  • love this so much... amazingly done.

  • hehe wise words from mr. zukerman at the beginning

  • Love it!! Great, great performance! :)

  • The programme. I still have the page but not the whole programme.

  • man i want it. you should send it to me! lol

  • I met him when I was 18. (I P) There was a very big queue for autographs and I had the last one. He was very tired and needed to go back to his dressingroom. I felt very honoured and the rest of the queue were a bit annoyed. I still have it.

  • lucky you! what did he sign on?

  • @malxk lucky!!

  • i absolutely love this song. A+++ 6/5 everything above, itzhak and zukerman play so marvelously. what i would give to hear them live / learn from them!! <33

  • The slow section sounds as if there's a full quartet playing.

  • I heard this for the first time this summer played by a very talented violin student from Montreal and an absolutely amazing violist, Lambert Chen. They added their own twists to the variations and I swear they had us all on our feet!

  • the sound that Zukerman can get from a viola live is simply unreal.

  • i'd be interested in a cd or dvd of this hole concert as well... is there any?

  • is this concert being selled in dvd?

  • This is good for the soul.

One of my favorite Handel pieces.

  • Sencillamente maravilloso

  • what language are they speaking in?

  • Comment removed

  • pretty sure it's hebrew

  • israelish ^^ xDD

  • Yay! Agreed! ;)

  • AWESOME!!

  • amazing

  • delicious to the ears!

  • thanks for sharing. Heifetz-halvorsen version owns!!

  • *enthusiastic applause*

  • Hey, I dunno about you guys, but in my opinion, Zukerman proved his point in the beginning dialogue :D I honestly think he did a better job. And this is coming from a guy who admires Perlman. A whole lot.

  • Hebrew

  • beautiful interpretation

  • could somebody share with me the scores for violin and viola, please?

    I love it !

  • imslp-dot-org/wiki/Passacaglia_for_Violin_and_Viola_(Halvorsen%2C_Johan)

  • the sound of that viola blows me away

  • Bleh, they took down the other version, the one of better quality.

This isn't my favorite version of them playing this piece. But that doesn't prevent me from loving it! Only Primrose and Heifetz duet matched these two playing together.

  • r u kidding? matched? primrose and heifetz r legendary. theyre playing is way better than these two. but im not saying that these two arent good too.

  • Like I said, this isn't my favorite recording of these two. Yes, Primrose and Heifetz are legendary and you could argue that they are individually better, but these two blended together better than Primrose and Heifetz.

Have you heard their recording? H and P's playing is amazing (like always) but it isn't the same style. These two have known each other for years and years and have been able to develop a very close style. They practically grew up together

  • u can't say which one is better. Perlman and Heifetz had very different styles and Zukerman doesn't even play the viola normally.

  • What do you mean by not playing normally?

  • I think GLXLR means Zukerman is "usually" known as a violinist first, and secondly as a violist.

  • Thank you, I misenderstood.

  • first like a violist and then like a violinist

  • Comment removed

  • this is one of the most amazing performances i've ever seen..GO ITZHAK!! &Zukerman makes me freaakin proud to play the viola :]

  • i thought Pinchas Zuckermann played the violin....he plays both?

  • Yeah unless that was a body double I'd say he plays that Guarneri viola pretty well.

  • the violin really does feel like a little plastic toy when you compare it to the viola.

  • best quotes ever at the start by zukerman!!! i wish bashmet would play this with someone, his sound has soo much more pressance (<<<---if thats how you spell it ) how ever zukerman is a brilliant violist, plus, i think itzhak perlman is the best violinist in the world at this time.

  • i think they should have raised their stands a bit more they look quite crouched, but excellent as always.

  • There is a GOD!!! .. or something divine called Pinky and Itzy!!

  • Pinky and Itzy??? That sounds like two cartoon character's names. The Adventures of Pinky and Itzy. Lol. ^_^

  • I know, they're so cute! :D

Pinky and Itzy as in Pinchas and Itzhak.. ;)

  • No,,, I think Pinky is Perlman.

  • Really.. But that doesn't fit with Zukerman being Itzy..

Besides, Pinky is more like Pinchas than in Perlman.. Hehehe, I love them both! :D

  • I really like this song but i am going to try to play this at my school. but i would probably fail. lol. anyway, very well played. is there a place where i can download and print the music of this song?

  • I'm just completely AWED by the playfulness in the Perlmann's face at certain parts. He REALLY loves music. It looked like an adventure.

  • yeah he's playing viola here though...

  • you and your "friends" should appreciate fine artists such as Zuckerman and Perlman, this just shows how limited your musicality is. The day you can play half as good as the legends that are Perlman and Zuckerman, then you can comment on the playing.

  • Please have your earwax removed and come back when you have something intelligent to contribute.

  • dios que hermosa pieza

  • the translation in the beggining is awful

  • but i love the duet

  • I actually thought it was one of the best beginnings. It might be different, but I sure do love the way they interpreted it...

  • I love this duet and I am playing it with my friend who is a cellist. The viola is really nice with the violin. The tones blend very well.

  • this is I can say the best duet for violin and viola and onestly you can't say that one of them is more important becouse without one of them it will just not be so great

  • Espetacular ! Pra mim esse é o melhor vídeo do youtube.

  • I absolutely love the conversation in the beginning. great!

  • I absolutely love the conversation in the beginning. great!

  • Zukerman:...don't forget your feet!... lol

  • oh hahhah

I thought he wasn't pleased with the performance before that.

I could be wrong, but I think the whole concert is recorded on 2CD set.

  • What was so bad, that they were saying?

  • Perlman was making awful, corny puns like getting a "Handel" on the music, etc. The viola/violin exchange was the real gem here, which is why it's included before the piece actually starts.

  • UHM EXCUSE ME BUT IM PRETTY SURE THAT THE VIOLA WAS THE FIRST INSTRUMENT CREATED IN THE STRING FAMILY ... SOOOOO00oooo0o0oooo .....

we can say that the violin is just a smaller viola.... and the cello is just a bigger viola.... HAH

    ALL HAIL THE VIOLAAAA!!!! lol...

  • noooooooo not the viola.

  • nobody cares about violas.

    violins rule!! hahahaha!

  • BASS! lol.

  • YESH!!! HAIL THE VIOLA!!!!!

  • a viola is just a big violin (or a small cello, it depends on how you look at it.)

  • it was Hebrew. I love this interpretation- this is awesome.

  • thanks

  • what language were they speaking

  • Hebrew, I would guess...

  • Haha... the playing was INCREDIBLE, but it was the diologue that made the video!

  • The viola is a little tougher than the violin. "The Violin Family" (a book published in the Groves music series; check Amazon) discusses the physical imperfections of the viola. Apparently, to properly accommodate the pitches the viola produces, its fingerboard should be 14-16 inches longer. That's why violinsts (incl. me) often find it's a little harder to get a nice sound out of one.

  • So yes, the viola is tougher. It's also imperfect, and the repertoire written for it pales in comparison to the violin's. It's as though it's trapped in musical puberty, between violin and cello. That's why it has that ridiculous pubescent sound. Flame away. :) I keed, I keed

  • Is too amplified :-)))

  • Yes it Is, The viola is bigger and so are the distances between notes, and to be honest to play accompaniments could be harder than to play melodies, and our vibrato needs more physical force than the one of the violin...Zuckerman is Right!!!!

  • It is.

  • Its not.

  • What language were they speaking in? Hebrew? Yiddish? Meh?

  • Hebrew.

  • what zuckerman said is so true. a viola is harder to play than a violin. even all those bow techniques (sttacato marcatto ricochet spicatto)are all more complicated. but it is a very cool instrument.

  • Wow. I never knew that. I always thought violin was harder because of the difficult rhythms they usually have to play all the time.

  • nope a viola is larger and heavier, even the bow is heavier which makes it more difficult

  • Nice try...

  • its true

  • Its not.. I play both..

  • Viola is more difficult

  • You must not play the viola very well if you play it the same way you play your violin.

  • agreed

  • That kinda looks like a deglamorized Ofra Harnoy sitting 2nd cello, but I don't have an IPO orchestra roster for that year. Anybody?

  • Do you have video for the Sarabande as well? I have yet to be able to find a video recording of the piece being performed, let alone an audio clip... Please help!!!

  • bravo and thanks for sharing.

2 masters with 2 best toys in the world... lol

met again afer so many years with the same piece :p
