this scene lost me they say they are playing nhl 94 but its really nhlpa 93 and there wasnt bleeding heads in nhl 94 but there is in nhlpa 93 i dont remeber if there was fighting in 93 but at least they got that there was no fighting in 94

@Futureman75 It is in fact NHLPA Hockey 93. EASN is at center ice because 93 only had the NHLPA license. Teams were identified by their location. The New York Islanders were called "Long Island". The Stanley Cup was called "the EA Cup". You could make heads bleed only in 93. 94 cut the blood and fights, however, fighting returned in NHL 96. The factual discrepancy in the dialogue regarding the blood and fighting was merely an oversight by the writer.

This movie is epic and this is the best scenes in a movie (for videogame hockey) next to the deleted scenes of Chasing Amy where Banky and Holden play EA Hockey for the Genesis.

It's too bad they screwed up some of the facts for game. They say there is no fighting in the game yet you can make people's heads bleed? You can do both actually...I do like the line though about kids hitting each other haha

The removal of fights in NHL Hockey 94 was addressed in the 1996 movie Swingers:

Trent: I'm gonna make Wayne Gretzky's head bleed for super-fan #99 over here.

However, this is not completely accurate, as bleeding players were also removed. They also were playing NHLPA Hockey '93 which had blood and fighting.

Actually it's not NHL 94 I have both NHLPA 93 and NHL 94 and in 94 there isn't even any fighting but you have the one timer you can still injure players but they don't bleed.

To Clear up the NHLPA 93/NHL 94 debate:

The game they're playing is NHLPA Hockey '93. It's not NHL 94. NHLPA 93 had blood AND fighting, but in this movie, they "pretended" fighting was not in the game, when in fact it was. NHL 94 had no blood OR fighting. Fighting did not return to the game series until 1996.
