Designing and rolling out tanks is a complicated, long drawn process where several jerks like you get to redraw the specs numerous times. Its as good a tank as any can be in its own class, accept the fact, induct it and let DRDO develop a better one. In case they fail, you can always assist the army in designing better tanks!!!

The kanchan armour on the arjun survived penetration from a T72 direct hit of an AFSDS round at point blank range. This was the old kanchan, it has been improved further. The T90 accuracy is nowhere near the arjun which has 90% CEP at 2000m while T90 has 85% CEP at 1400m. Indian army has refused comparative trial between arjun and T90 because our short sided DGMF is biased against the arjun and bribed by the russians. An rpg27 or above has never been tried on an abrams either, it will penetrate.

Arjun may have flaws but its rifled gun is one of the most accurate tank gun in the world..In combat it will have a first hit proability. Its better than the Al Khalid in this and this matters a lot.

FYI, the Kanchan armor is a fit in-between Chobham and Dorchester. The tank can take a hit....without blowing up. The Gun FCS is the BEST in the country (ahead of the T-90S), and the gun has ranged up to 6 KM with state-of-the-art ammo. It underperforms beyond 44 degrees, but has demonstrated "scoot-n-shoot" accuracy that is in-between 80 & 90 percent. Israeli assessments of the gun were a +ve...

And I hope that the Indians who follow this tanks development do not judge it too harshly for its long time coming. It is very difficult to start an entire industry from scratch to indigenously make your own armored vehicles. All nations had teething problems when first starting out and it is a credit to India that she stuck it out to make the Arjun a reality.

So what exactly do you mean by '27 years under trial'? Some media reports were very inaccurate, if you read the latest facts, the army has a changed attitude and want to induct it in much larger numbers. The Army's only concern was the lack of infrastructure in India and Pakistan to support a 60 ton class MBT.

Tank R7D takes pretty long... research any other tank and look for yourself... India took longer because the project was scrapped twice inbetween (for several years) due to economic breakdown in India during early 1990s (USSR collapsed).
The Tank now has a comparative war game scheduled for March 1st at Pokran, pitted against the T-90s. That test will shut the Arjun critics for good, or prove that the Army was right in rejecting it. Let's see how it goes. March is still a month away.

Well that's not going to happen and it never will. It depends on how well it can do urban environments where it can be hit from ANYWHERE and the Abrams did its job in the invasion of Iraq. We have made over 9000 tanks almost all during the Cold War and its STILL doing its job. Unless the Cold War or something similar continues the US will not MAKE any new tanks. They wil refuribish and renovate the old and damaged ones but won' t make NEW ones unless a big war happens.

1. Has low height to avoid detection: use a 2 man crew in the Hull,discard the turret.
2. Use small missiles and remove the maingun. Increase tank "length wise" to reduce height n fit more missiles. Fit missiles in vertical plastic disposable tubes throughout the tank
3. Use periscope style cameras for 360 vision, and peri style HMG/LMG
4. better engine
5. stealth armor which matches its color to surroundings, turns blk during dark
6. heavy out light in design

Designing and rolling out tanks is a complicated, long drawn process where several jerks like you get to redraw the specs numerous times. Its as good a tank as any can be in its own class, accept the fact, induct it and let DRDO develop a better one. In case they fail, you can always assist the army in designing better tanks!!!

The kanchan armour on the arjun survived penetration from a T72 direct hit of an AFSDS round at point blank range. This was the old kanchan, it has been improved further. The T90 accuracy is nowhere near the arjun which has 90% CEP at 2000m while T90 has 85% CEP at 1400m. Indian army has refused comparative trial between arjun and T90 because our short sided DGMF is biased against the arjun and bribed by the russians. An rpg27 or above has never been tried on an abrams either, it will penetrate.

No, it not only a copy for Leo2a1 tank.
It more or less a failed copy of T72.
Two third of the component are interchangeable with T72.
The base uses t72 base, the tower is German leo2a1, engine is German made 800HP engine (because Indian made 1200HP engine would work properly).
Electronics are imported from US and EU.

Arjun may have flaws but its rifled gun is one of the most accurate tank gun in the world..In combat it will have a first hit proability. Its better than the Al Khalid in this and this matters a lot.

hey porki! there is an airconditioner in this tank and an auxiliary engine for silent mode ops..T 72 shell bounced off at point blank range! the Army accepts that..also accepts that firing accuracy n mobility is better than T 90! the project is goin ahead baby!! 1500HP engine is now under development for Arjun Mk2..ur Puki Fauj shud get ready to meet this beast in the desert!!! "This tank is crap.">> Prove it! Almost ALL tanks fail in the hot Indian desert due to 60 degree Celcius temperatures. Even the Chally had problems in the Arab desert. The Arjun is at least tested and localized for that rough environment, and reliability has improved hugely. It has great armor and a high-tech gun which has fired shots at 6 KM.

FYI, the Kanchan armor is a fit in-between Chobham and Dorchester. The tank can take a hit....without blowing up. The Gun FCS is the BEST in the country (ahead of the T-90S), and the gun has ranged up to 6 KM with state-of-the-art ammo. It underperforms beyond 44 degrees, but has demonstrated "scoot-n-shoot" accuracy that is in-between 80 & 90 percent. Israeli assessments of the gun were a +ve...

Thanks for posting this cybersurg. I enjoyed the in depth look at what is an impressive tank. And I hope that the Indians who follow this tanks development do not judge it too harshly for its long time coming. It is very difficult to start an entire industry from scratch to indigenously make your own armored vehicles. All nations had teething problems when first starting out and it is a credit to India that she stuck it out to make the Arjun a reality.
