I'm a Harvard student. I've read quite a bit of Peretz's more controversial quotes. I haven't seen anything "racist" in them. Controversial? Yes. Debatable? Of Course. Larry Summers got into hot water because he remarked that women may have a lower aptitude for math. Yet, there is plenty of real evidence to suggest he was right. This is the same. I think my progressive student colleagues are more concerned with attacking dissent using ad hominem charges of bigotry rather than debate the truth.

I started reading The New Republic in 1981 as a Student in Ann Arbor. Over 30 years I have never seen a better written, researched or topical magazine. Marty Peretz is one of my heros.

What I really hate is the OP's need to put in a soundtrack. This is all-too-common on YouTube, but in 99.9% of all videos, the soundtrack actually DETRACTS from the point that one is trying to make! I was much more interested in hearing what the protestors and others were saying and chanting, than listen to that old 50's song over and over again until I wanted to vomit!.
