They really play live really great. In the 90's most artist were lyp sincing not because they wanted to but because they need to. Eiffel 65 started to play live for real in the early 2000s ;)

Eiffel 65 used a pitch-tuner to get their effects, but they didn't do what Autotune does. They deleted the pitch drifting (so that every note sang was snapped 100% to a perfect note) and they used a type of vocal distortion by warping the vocals with low-quality samplers. the vocalist was a hardware machine at the size of a vhs tape , cost 1200 USD, it could autotune your voice and few more voice effects , it came out in 1993, and in the next year 1994 a bigger model came out in 19inch version , you could do 6 voices in the same time. it was never very popular because it didn't sound natural. but when a few big stars started using it , suddenly everybody wanted to have such a machine...eiffel 65 did use the effect really smart and nice. bravo !

@crmdv2c I am so curious in that too. Like why aren't they good enough to just perform it all on real instruments? Even when Madonna performs, she uses guitar players and she actually sings without back playback. A real band actually sings there stuff in public. Not lip syncs.

Had I grown up (rather than having been born in) the 90s then I could have enjoyed early pop music all the more. The way I see it, back then everything and anything was possible. Back then, you could be black/white/brown/yellow/strai­ght/gay/Bi-sexual/Tran-sexual/­jewish/christian/islamic/hindu­/buddhist/bald and fat/tall and thin...hell, you could even be a Siberian pimp named Chino with gingivitis and wart, and it wouldn't have made a blind bit of difference!.. and Barry White was still alive.
