Sasuke is so stupid. He should know that joining Orochimaru won't help him. Since Itachi is stronger the Orochimaru, Sasuke won't get stronger then Itachi by training under someone weaker the Itachi.

the thing is that orochi is weaker than itachi coz itachi has sharingan. orochi has tons of jutsu, and sasuke has sharingan... put them together and youve got a strong sasuke. besides, its a first step since orochi taught heaps to sasuke that he wouldnt have otherwise known.

btw, Sasuke is in extremely pale comparison to Itachi's power. Itachi was an anbu around th age of 13. He may be going blind but that didn't stop him from defeating and injuring 2 jounin teachers and a genin with the strength of a chuunin. Sasuke is still very good though compared to others around him, but it would take him a LONG time to gather the strength to kill an akatsuki member without any help.
