It looks cool and all with all the pretty poses thrown in, but it is all choreographed combat. Do any of you ever try just fighting one another? You know, like LIVE?
Oh, and have you ever tried pretty little turns and fancy footwork in armor,... or at least in historic clothing?
Skall. Uh. I think you're missing the point. I'm pretty sure they're part of an acting class that teaches choreography? It's not trying to be REAL combat. Its supposed to be entertaining...
Usually that might be the case for the live fights you've seen, but you haven't seen ours live. We are NOT in competition with one another and are putting on a show for the public. Who, by the way, have always been very vocal to us about how much they appreciate and enjoy our demonstrations....
I'm not being condescending. I think I misunderstood. Do you do like, historical re-ennactments? By what you've said, it sounds like it isn't choreographed, but authenticated with armor and full clothing. When you said live, I was under the impression that you meant improvised, or just a "real" fight. Fights like that can be amazing and entertaining in their own right, and if that's what you do, then I'm sure it is. However, when some people say live, they mean12year-olds swinging wooden sticks.
usually someone hits something to make a sound like the blow, which helps the illusion along. Maybe strike your own chest (palm flat) etc., or someone not in the fight uses a prop, things like that.
I am an animator researching sword, stick and unarmed combat, and this is the best reference material iv got, better than some movies. so cool guys keep up the good work and keep posting videos!! they are also awesome fun to watch!
i think it slipped out of his hand when he swung upwards. if you were to get rid of a weapon (such as throwing it at your opponent) make sure you have a replacement otherwise if it doesnt work then your in trouble.
Where do you all go to school? Or what is the designated class? Also, i noticed there are virtually no heavy set people that do this, Is there a weight requirement to participate? Also, i love the hand to hand combat fight when she smacks you in the face with her elbow... its great.
East 15 Acting School. And as for build, its all down to who applies and who gets in, so no there are no physical requirements per se, execpt that large or small you must be able to undergo fairly intense physical training.
Is all of that choreographed? Explains why they are so good. If it was just them training with each other that would be pretty damn awesome. Its really cool, good video.
is there a way to make simple sword fighting look really amazing. me and my friends are making a movie involving swords, but we want stuff to be easy for us to remember because of GCSE's and stuff. So is there a way of making simple sword fighting look good?
I must say this was beautifully done. I am rather critical when it comes to staged violence of any sort, but the work displayed in this video by the students of East 15 is exceptional. I checked out the school's site and liked what I saw. Who knows perhaps I'll meet some of you next summer.
This is absolutely, completely brilliant, and it's re-inspired my never-really-dead passion for stage combat. I've just contacted my old teacher about a possible apprenticeship with him or other training opportunities... so thanks for indirectly giving me the guts to do that. *laughs* That was unbelievably freaking awesome.
A BA? In Stage Combat? They didn't offer that as a course twenty years ago, or I'd have stayed in college. Really sweet though, what you guys do! We just like to fight with steel weapons, so here's what I do.
Out of all the vids in this series, this one is my absolute favorite, HANDS DOWN!

Yeah, I get that. What I do is also entertainment, but it's done live and in actual clothing and armor used at the time....

Choreographed fights are supposed to be entertaining to others, while live fights are more entertaining to the competitors.
