Unfortunately many Arab govts take defeats and repackage them as victories esp. where Israel is concerned and Sadat did exactly that even before the war was over. Militarily Israel won, however Egypt did make some political gain from the UN ceasefire.

@Shu5920: No, Israel won the Yom Kippur war, the Israeli army were less than 60 miles from Cairo and smashed the Egyptian forces in the Sinai Peninsular after a brief Egyptian advantage.
I can see why Israel is weary of Egypt given Arab League aggression in 1948, 1967 and again in 1973, however Egyptian recognition and peace should have made amends. But Saudi Arabia and Pakistan are the worst culprits in the 21st Century, even more so than Iran.

@Shu5920: I guess Russia would say that as they supplied Egypts equipment, given the Cold War context and the fact that the US supplied Israels equipment its not surprising. Unfortunately many Arab govts take defeats and repackage them as victories esp. where Israel is concerned and Sadat did exactly that even before the war was over. Militarily Israel won, however Egypt did make some political gain from the UN ceasefire.

If your logic justify Arafat as being a Palestinian even though he was born in Egypt, by the same logic, the original country of all Jews is Israel. However, the majority of Arabs in Israel came from Arab states for work 19th cent.
